My aunt who is 10 years older than me took a course for college in sign language and she would practice with me. Thus I learned some and so people wouldn't know what we were saying in public we would sign to each other I thought it was so fun. Then I happened to be in McDonald's playground and saw a deaf girl signing to her mom. I ended up playing with her and was able to sign with her and even though I was young just to see her face light up and her mother's smile of approval made me want to learn more sign language. There's a small percentage that's deaf people and such a large of hearing so to break that barrier for that child to be able to play with another child was beautiful. Now I am an adult and I have taught and am teaching both my 12 year old and 4 year old boys how to sign. This was a wonderful film!
7 years ago , i lived in a down stairs flat , and a upstairs negbour , across from me , would have load music , the flat was soon for sale . A mother Who was deaf , with her hearing daughter , moved in , the Mother can drive deaf , and had a job , made me think of , helping deaf people . my local Area has a Deaf center . i should Check it out

i’m a coda myself and this showed the struggle of being hearing when most of your life has been deaf, i wish my parents taught me more sign language and embraced them being deaf but i understand why they didn’t want me to. it was a brilliant short film!

I met my deaf friend when I was in grade 5, she was from the city and usually came to visit during school holidays. Other kids where scared of her and made fun of her because there were few next to no deaf people in our community. I forced myself to communicate with her through the sign language letters I saw from posts at my school, I remember she taught me other signs by writing down on the soil since we only met on the street and we would stand there for hours. We grew apart as we grew older because of college and varsity and distance. I remember meeting her again after years and the pain she felt when she saw that I forgot a few signs. I'm on that journey once more towards learning sign language further in order to help deaf people to live comfortably in our community. I hope to open a facility to help teach people sign language one day. Thanks to the paths that crossed with my deaf friend, she made me see the world differently.
"I live between two worlds, I've never been deaf enough to fit in", I have been telling people this my whole life. I have not found someone else who have said it in the same words, so it made me happy that there is other people who knows about this feeling. Thank you!

That child is barely Princess Jasmine's *COLOR* (not her ethnicity) that's why she was brought up. People refer to her as "the dark skinned princess" even with Tiana in the picture now. Black people are not "dark" for being darker than Beyonce. That's regular Brown, that's regular Black people color and that girl in the movie is obviously not dark, she's simply brown. She's playing a biracial character FOR A REASON. Something a dark skinned person couldn't do.
I know, at first the second flashback felt like present time with a visual of her younger siblings. I didn't register that it was supposed to be her experience until the next scene began.
I hate when movies do that. Especially since the first child resembled the main actress so well. The second child had no similarities (skin tone, hair color, eyes, etc.)
The man who played the love interest was also one of the protagonists love interests on Switched at Birth, an old freeform (formerly abcfamily) show. So awesome to see he's still doing work.
Man my friend's mother is deaf and when they still lived in our town they were so fun to be around the deaf community is such an inspiring and culturally diverse community many people don't realize that deaf has their own culture they even have different dialects and there's many different sign language it really is an amazing language

What bar doesn't have original Guinness? He should have been given what he ordered. Makes me wonder if it was a subtle thing the writers or director put in to show how casually rude some people who can hear are to people who can't hear. The bartender did seem to have an unnecessary attitude over not being able to hear Josh.

My ASL culture teacher recommended this video to the class. I am a mother of a deaf child. The more I learn I am in awe inspired. I am in tears after watching this video. It shows how love transends any barriers and challenges. Bravo! 🫶🙌👏❤

They changed the child actors bc she was different ages during those parts, the first flashback she seems somewhere between 8-12, the second flashback she looks younger, maybe around 4-6... idk I'm terrible at guessing age 😂
Yes, that's it. They were showing the struggle she was having navigating both worlds beginning about age 6. It was then, she said that she realized there was a divide in the world (check out the conversation her parents were having about her). When she was a bit older, although she wanted to present as deaf to the hearing world, her mother encouraged her to use the abilities she did have. Effectively pushing her into the hearing world.
I am Deaf, but I grew up hearing before I lost all my hearing at twenty one. It was a scary thing and even before that, when I had hearing aids, I was stuck in between worlds. People thought that they needed to scream at me so I could hear them, and I was a joke to them. My Deaf ASL teacher didn't understand that despite having hearing aids, I could not fully hear or understand things. She used to get angry and upset with me in ASL class because I struggled to learn how to sign and the class was awful. She failed me on my final exam despite telling her I could not understand music very well without words in front of me. When I went deaf, I lost things that mattered, things I took for granted. I got a cochlear implant five years ago and it's changed my life. I don't have perfect hearing, I am not what people would consider a normal hearing person nor do I fit with the Deaf community. I've always been in between. It's been hard, I still struggle even now, despite adjusting so much faster and expected. There are times I still feel out of place and alone, there are limitations I face even with the implant. I can't do certain things as I used to which has led to problems, but I don't let that stop me. I adjust as best I can. I don't see it as a burden much anymore. I see it as a chance for my young family members to learn and understand. I may not know ASL, I may not be a perfect hearing person, but I struggle on, I try my best. Yes, it's frustrating at times, but life is like that. I was able to get something to help me and I'm grateful for it.

This short film meant so much to me. And if you’re like us you get that. I’m a CODA. ASL is our first language. Being a CODA especially a young black CODA really does feel sometime like a whole different world. You sometimes don’t feel enough for either, maybe feel excluded - but understand why. because the Deaf space is for Deaf people. And we understand why it is iffy for them to have hearing people coming into it, CODA or not. This film explained everything felt into this gorgeous cinematic story. Well done! We need a series 😩✨💙
This was so gorgeous. The acting, the visuals, the sign, the dance, the music -- all combined to tell a beautiful story of trying to connect and to find our place in this world. And isn't that what we all are trying to do?
There are so many variations of the "be you" story, ranging from that of a big fat panda and now of a CODA. I find it very interesting that such seemingly simple expression could create countless stories of basically the same theme. Yet, we're still enamored by these stories that we've already heard or seen in one way or another. I wonder why... I'm too tired to think so I'll just say it's magic.
It's called empathy. The selfish think they are the only ones who experience things. The people who can connect with others - learn, share and grow. They see the magic. Some people thing by owning a diamond they are special, others see the facets, the shine, the toughness of diamonds and are just happy to have the experience of seeing something beautiful.

Oh, my goodness! I cried the whole time watching this. I am not a CODA, however, my brother is deaf and as a sibling you are still in 2 worlds with much emotions and for me it was 3 worlds because I had to carry on 3 languages and cultures at one time; English, Spanish and Sign Language. Before she said it I thought to myself - not many people have had any reason to consider it but it’s impossible for anyone but a CODA to understand how you really ARE part of two fundamentally different worlds. And that’s really because it only really hit me when watching the scenes when she was little. I’ve never really thought about it with intensity. Obviously we know we grow up in both the deaf world and the hearing world and it is almost like stepping in and out of both at times but I don’t know, I’ve never really THOUGHT about it before. I enjoyed this film very much ❤
Took a sign language college course with my best friend about 15 years ago. We blissfully thought it was an easy class. The class was a wonderful experience and the deaf students were fantastic, patient and gracious. The class was so much more than just a class.
*LOVE* this - a ray of light, live and hope when I need it the most - trying desperately to get back to my life - which includes these awesome deaf women - so grateful to have them in my life - *intended* to practice my signing during lockdown, didnt quite happen that way - ALL of us - deserve to be treated with respect, with compassion, with love, with understanding - people are people - ALL of us deserve to be heard, listened to, understood
This is a world I know pretty much nothing about and didn't even know the term CODA so thank you for telling peoples' stories and expanding minds. I've been loving this Omeletto channel! It keeps showing romances that deal with very real and raw problems which is refreshing and moving.

It's like her life sets the stadium for her motion once she learns to navigate it, on her terms. She is recapturing her passion as she is ready to finally take reigns of her turmoil & silence. Sometimes when we make mistakes or are not completely forthright we allow the wreckage to mute our voice, overcome our potential. Deaf or hearing we are meant to breakthrough outside & inner turmoil to discover and value our unique authenticness. Dissonance, pain & our world shaken up are ingredients of provision for our transcendence. Silence is not always negative. Being mute or silent is sometimes how we are quietly computing change before next steps are awakened to us. Pain is our universal language as provision for progress- i agree with everyone, it's well written & played!! Kudos to Erika & the team!! 👍😘

I didn't know that Kerrynton was an actress as well. She is a phenomenal dancer that is featured in many choreographer's videos. This short film was so touching. I really felt the pressure she felt not fully fitting into either world and the desire to pick one, even if she was just pretending. This was beautiful.
omg... I relate to this a lot. When I was in elementary school we were forced to learn ASL (American sign language) I loved it. I had a lot of deaf friends and when they found out I was not deaf they turned. But I told them how much fun they are to hang out with during school. I told them later that I was hearing. They accepted me later and help learn more signs that I never knew of. My parents are hearing. Years later I moved away and forgot sign language and I want to learn again.
She isn't. If you didn't notice, Josh called her out on it when the other dancer saw her and commented on her being out. She wants to be in the deaf community because it's where her parents are, but she can hear, so that's why she's conflicted.

That child is barely Princess Jasmine's *COLOR* (not her ethnicity) that's why she was brought up. People refer to her as "the dark skinned princess" even with Tiana in the picture now. Black people are not "dark" for being darker than Beyonce. That's regular Brown, that's regular Black people color and that girl in the movie is obviously not dark, she's simply brown. She's playing a biracial character FOR A REASON. Something a dark skinned person couldn't do.

I know, at first the second flashback felt like present time with a visual of her younger siblings. I didn't register that it was supposed to be her experience until the next scene began.
I hate when movies do that. Especially since the first child resembled the main actress so well. The second child had no similarities (skin tone, hair color, eyes, etc.)

Man my friend's mother is deaf and when they still lived in our town they were so fun to be around the deaf community is such an inspiring and culturally diverse community many people don't realize that deaf has their own culture they even have different dialects and there's many different sign language it really is an amazing language

What bar doesn't have original Guinness? He should have been given what he ordered. Makes me wonder if it was a subtle thing the writers or director put in to show how casually rude some people who can hear are to people who can't hear. The bartender did seem to have an unnecessary attitude over not being able to hear Josh.

My ASL culture teacher recommended this video to the class. I am a mother of a deaf child. The more I learn I am in awe inspired. I am in tears after watching this video. It shows how love transends any barriers and challenges. Bravo! 🫶🙌👏❤

They changed the child actors bc she was different ages during those parts, the first flashback she seems somewhere between 8-12, the second flashback she looks younger, maybe around 4-6... idk I'm terrible at guessing age 😂

Yes, that's it. They were showing the struggle she was having navigating both worlds beginning about age 6. It was then, she said that she realized there was a divide in the world (check out the conversation her parents were having about her). When she was a bit older, although she wanted to present as deaf to the hearing world, her mother encouraged her to use the abilities she did have. Effectively pushing her into the hearing world.
I am Deaf, but I grew up hearing before I lost all my hearing at twenty one. It was a scary thing and even before that, when I had hearing aids, I was stuck in between worlds. People thought that they needed to scream at me so I could hear them, and I was a joke to them. My Deaf ASL teacher didn't understand that despite having hearing aids, I could not fully hear or understand things. She used to get angry and upset with me in ASL class because I struggled to learn how to sign and the class was awful. She failed me on my final exam despite telling her I could not understand music very well without words in front of me.
When I went deaf, I lost things that mattered, things I took for granted. I got a cochlear implant five years ago and it's changed my life. I don't have perfect hearing, I am not what people would consider a normal hearing person nor do I fit with the Deaf community. I've always been in between. It's been hard, I still struggle even now, despite adjusting so much faster and expected. There are times I still feel out of place and alone, there are limitations I face even with the implant. I can't do certain things as I used to which has led to problems, but I don't let that stop me. I adjust as best I can.
I don't see it as a burden much anymore. I see it as a chance for my young family members to learn and understand. I may not know ASL, I may not be a perfect hearing person, but I struggle on, I try my best. Yes, it's frustrating at times, but life is like that. I was able to get something to help me and I'm grateful for it.

This short film meant so much to me. And if you’re like us you get that. I’m a CODA. ASL is our first language. Being a CODA especially a young black CODA really does feel sometime like a whole different world. You sometimes don’t feel enough for either, maybe feel excluded - but understand why. because the Deaf space is for Deaf people. And we understand why it is iffy for them to have hearing people coming into it, CODA or not. This film explained everything felt into this gorgeous cinematic story. Well done! We need a series 😩✨💙
This was so gorgeous. The acting, the visuals, the sign, the dance, the music -- all combined to tell a beautiful story of trying to connect and to find our place in this world. And isn't that what we all are trying to do?
There are so many variations of the "be you" story, ranging from that of a big fat panda and now of a CODA. I find it very interesting that such seemingly simple expression could create countless stories of basically the same theme. Yet, we're still enamored by these stories that we've already heard or seen in one way or another.
I wonder why... I'm too tired to think so I'll just say it's magic.
Because these are issues people struggle with on a daily basis.

From church service to her school. As a dancer I loved the music but I wished that I could be more apart of her world. For while I didn't really speak just sign.... I am not a CODA, however, my brother is deaf and as a sibling you are still in 2 worlds with much emotions and for me it was 3 worlds because I had to carry on 3 languages and cultures at one time; English, Spanish and Sign Language. I'd say, don't see it as a "I have to", see it as a "I get to", in regards to the cultures.
Before she said it I thought to myself - not many people have had any reason to consider it but
it’s impossible for anyone but a CODA to understand how you really ARE part of two fundamentally different worlds. And that’s really because it only really hit me when watching the scenes when she was little. I’ve never really thought about it with intensity.
Obviously we know we grow up in both the deaf world and the hearing world and it is almost like stepping in and out of both at times but I don’t know, I’ve never really THOUGHT about it before.

Can’t believe I just discovered these amazing movies.
Took a sign language college course with my best friend about 15 years ago. We blissfully thought it was an easy class. The class was a wonderful experience and the deaf students were fantastic, patient and gracious. The class was so much more than just a class.
*LOVE* this - a ray of light, live and hope when I need it the most - trying desperately to get back to my life - which includes these awesome deaf women - so grateful to have them in my life - *intended* to practice my signing during lockdown, didnt quite happen that way - ALL of us - deserve to be treated with respect, with compassion, with love, with understanding - people are people - ALL of us deserve to be heard, listened to, understood
This is a world I know pretty much nothing about and didn't even know the term CODA so thank you for telling peoples' stories and expanding minds. I've been loving this Omeletto channel! It keeps showing romances that deal with very real and raw problems which is refreshing and moving.

It's like her life sets the stadium for her motion once she learns to navigate it, on her terms. She is recapturing her passion as she is ready to finally take reigns of her turmoil & silence. Sometimes when we make mistakes or are not completely forthright we allow the wreckage to mute our voice, overcome our potential. Deaf or hearing we are meant to breakthrough outside & inner turmoil to discover and value our unique authenticness. Dissonance, pain & our world shaken up are ingredients of provision for our transcendence. Silence is not always negative. Being mute or silent is sometimes how we are quietly computing change before next steps are awakened to us. Pain is our universal language as provision for progress- i agree with everyone, it's well written & played!! Kudos to Erika & the team!! 👍😘

And the amazing thing about this film, this piece of art, is that it makes hearing people feel excluded, feel similar to what it must feel like for deaf people. I didn't know that Kerrynton was an actress as well. She is a phenomenal dancer that is featured in many choreographer's videos. This short film was so touching. I really felt the pressure she felt not fully fitting into either world and the desire to pick one, even if she was just pretending. This was beautiful.

omg... I relate to this a lot. When I was in elementary school we were forced to learn ASL (American sign language) I loved it. I had a lot of deaf friends and when they found out I was not deaf they turned. But I told them how much fun they are to hang out with during school. I told them later that I was hearing. They accepted me later and help learn more signs that I never knew of. My parents are hearing. Years later I moved away and forgot sign language and I want to learn again.

She isn't. If you didn't notice, Josh called her out on it when the other dancer saw her and commented on her being out. She wants to be in the deaf community because it's where her parents are, but she can hear, so that's why she's conflicted.
It was established from the beginning, she is not deaf.
