Time Moves so fast

  • Just a feeling I miss from being younger, being bored. Time feels like it moves so fast as an adult, like you dont have any time to do anything, and it makes life feel so short as it rushes past.

And after all our blood, sweat and tears, one day our reward will be a box in the ground. What a wonderful life.

I saw a documentary about the brain and it asked the question, why time feels that it moves faster as we get older. Generally speaking, one of the reasons is that when we are younger, the brain is still trying to figure things out, such as co ordination, learning to speak and so on, so time moves slower. As we get older, those things become easier to do, thus time speeds up.

    Give yourself something to anticipate.
A week away from your current surroundings will introduce you to your real self - which is not the person with needless regrets.
That will then show you what it's like to be away from the place you currently live - which is so obviously the root of all your fears/regrets, and will spur you on to move away because you'll then see how it feels to be in complete control of what you do and where you go and what you eat etc.
That's the fear you don't wanna face and yet when you walk into it, you'll see how small it really is.
    Time is shaped strangely.
You'll meet past selves by going headfirst into the future.
But do not stand still, in thinking or actions.

I’m so glad you’re talking about this because, when I try to talk about it with friends, it seems like no one is as concerned about it as I am. The fact that time is moving so fast makes me feel anxious. After my dad’s passing 3 years ago and the pandemic I feel like I’ve begun to feel it more and more. It’s like being woken up out of the Matrix lol. It’s scary tbh. Anyways, thanks for sharing this

Look into the autonomous nervous system. In regards to your resent realisations surrounding your family life, there is a good chance that you have been living under a greater than average stress level, at all times. The autonomous nervous system being over stimulated for prolonged periods of time, is what brings that nagging feeling of urgency, which really comes into the projector light, once you attempt to sleep.

Hey Adam. Been following your journey for a while, glad to see your doing well. I've found solace in jornalling. Just quick notes of what you got up to in the day. Almost like a bullet point story. Helps get the past onto paper and let's you move on with a clear mind. I feel You would defintely benefit from better having better organisational skills. Everyone has the same 24 hours, use them wisely. A week day for me: 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep, 8 hours free ( kind of)

If you take away "time", which is a man made concept, there is no time, past and future, there is only NOW. Forget about the word time and focus on the word now.

Interestingly, as we age, time appears to pass more quickly due to the diminishing proportion of time relative to our lifespan. For instance, when you are 3 years old turning 4 a quarter of your life has passed . However if you are 49 years old turning 50 a much smaller fraction of your life has passed. The smaller fraction makes the passage of time seem faster.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, when it comes to immediate family, from my own experiences, I dont think its something you really get over, it seems instead like you just manage it better days than others. But, we are all different in that respect also. 🙏🏼

Also I think you should look into EDS. There are a number of different types of EDS - it could explain your shoulder dislocation. Its a genetic condition affecting the strength of the connective tissue and collagen.

I have the same problem. I’m 34, and I feel like I’m already getting towards the end of the ‘best years’ of my life. I don’t know where the time’s gone.
Have you noticed when you most feel like time is going by fast?
I find familiar routines tend to merge everything together; therefore, it’s harder to distinguish between the days.
Time tends to slow down when you’re somewhere unfamiliar and doing something unfamiliar.

    • @Add-

Honestly I have found its a constant now, there isn't a particular thing or situation where it seems faster or slower, it just feels like everything is at least double time, I often catch myself going to work thinking how the heck is it Thursday already!? Its like I start work on a Monday day, sleep 1 night and 3 days have woodshed past

There are so many distractions in life. Time goes so much quicker when you are only living for the weekend. It’s funny how we know how life is so short and how it can go by the blink of an eye, yet we are unable to do anything about it. We either have to accept that fact of life or find a way to escape the rat race.

100% I do. Its something thats constantly in the back of my mind, a lot is said here that I just cant talk with friends about so much, and because of the age, I mean heck, I had a youtube channel in 2006 when youtube first started and there was a lot of pressure from friends about attention seeking back then when it wasnt even this sort of thing I was posting, so if they came across this stuff, at this age :/

Its so not your fault that you’re still at home. There is a concerted effort going on to dismantle society as we know it and replace it with a one world dictatorship. It’s affecting everyone. Its not the world we grew up in expecting or our parents generation grew up in.
