They have certainly tidied up Straight Street. When we were there last it was so run down with closed buildings but now they look to be smartened up and used again. My husband said it was a lot more fun down there when he came ashore in 1960, my dad would say better in the thirties, forties and fifties and my grandfather would have had his run's ashore in Malta way before that. Valletta is a lovely city, so full of wonderful history.
Loved Valletta it was quite it's so beautiful the lights were so pretty hanging along the streets loved the different colours thanks l love watching your videos you are so good explaining and showing us around parts of Malta thanks Steve
It looks so magical with the lovely old streets and pretty lights. I love Medina glass. Even the normal street lighting with it's warm orange glow looks enchanting🌆. Here in most places in the UK they stole our beautiful street lights and replaced them with cold blue ones that don't let us see the stars anymore🌃. Lovely video Thank you Steve.
It’s interesting to see what they have done with the pedestrianisation around the fountain. I remember a time where you used to catch the buses there. As a child I used to love it, all the buses honking horns. It was quite unruly but lots of fun
Yes it was very rustic around the fountain in the past ..I only remember in the 70s Very dirty and smell pee near the stairs badly parked buses ..i remember two people died and a few injured with buses reversing over the years ...its beautiful now ;ove;y open space ..just hate the gates ...and the building just inside of parliament ..big waste of a lovely area
Englishman in Malta I cant imagine how much it has changed in Valletta. 20 years since I was last there. Next year I will be back, hopefully minus a pandemic

That was excellent Steve. Strait Street, or "The Gut" as it used to be called by HM Forces, looks totally "different" from my time 'on the beat' in early 70's. The great English actor Oliver Reed (RIP) passed away in one of those bars, I think late nineties whilst on break from filming "Gladiator". Love those lanterns, the cleanliness & inviting atmosphere. When l was in Malta as a Wren in 1969, there were two things that could get us sent back to the UK ...one was to stay too long in the sun and get sunstroke...and the other was to venture into straight street. I was shown where it was on my first visit to Valletta by some of my new wren friends and warned off! I never dared go down there. My husband and l had a walk along part of straight street last year.. but of course all was quiet. My husband knew about straight street and when l asked about it he said “you don’t want to know!!”
It’s nice that,simple and attractive like malta ha I do feel that this wonderful little island will be fine they are true survivors,see you all later In the year

I once flew from Malta via Switzerland to visit family on my way home to London back in the early eighties and Switzerland was hotter than Malta that summer. I was very surprised of the temperature but was told that the temperature at times can often match that of the Mediterranean in the summer.

My nephew on my husbands side has a restaurant in strait street called Salenas just opened before Christmas, we were so looking forward to seeing it finished, when we were there in November it was nearly finished , hope we can get there next year, apparently Qantas is not selling flights internationally in Australia till next March, really enjoyed this video as my husband’s family all live in Valletta, I love 💓 Valletta

I thought that they was going to have the bars and restaurants in the development of the Triton square when they finished it , because of the noise caused to the many people that live in the city of Valletta ?. The old bus station used to have so much life back in the 70s what fun it was, you could jump on a bus and sit next to someone with a second world war bomb shell and a lizard bought from the market . lol At one time you could by animals, war relics and many types of foods.
Valetta is the most beautiful capital city in Europe, ok I am biased my Grand mother was from Valetta and my Grandfather was a policeman in Valetta and Msida.

What is it that you have against Strada Stretta. This is not the first video walk you have done and you have still not walked down the lower end and showed what is really down there. Are you not familiar with the fact that there is an expensive restaurant and a Gentlemans club. There is also an open air stage across the road at first floor level which stages live music at times.
Have nothing against anywhere? I have shown it many times . I once walk the entire length. Talking about the history. So not sure what you are talking about ?
oh i do not remember it that way ..Dirty dangerous parking area where people got injured now nice big clean area and the bus paring just around the corner ,,,much better
