you cant beat uncommon, rare ... with common chars. you have to kill a wave completley in order to level the rarity up. take a close! look to the top of the screen.

@@q3maxpower915 Thank you! this helps confirm my next strategy for my next run. plan to grind all the missions to get the buffs, then go around as a mob, being more aggressive to kill off the waves
