How did I just watch a 16 minute vid about changing bars and stay entertained? Good job!
+DangleVonBallbag HAHAHA! Sucked in by the evil subliminal messages in what should be a mundane subject! Thanks for sticking with it though! Coming soon, "Handlebars II: The Grips of Death"...
The only reason I haven't tried to find another video is due to your AWESOME COMMENTARY!!!
+Adam Edgar HAHA! Thats great to hear! Thanks Adam!
+Andy Man Cam I watched the entire video and it was very helpful. I too have a FZ6, and need to change up the bars along with other fits with the controls. Keep talking to yourself and f*** what the Germans think.
best tutorial I've seen so far about changing handlebars. You're a funny guy too.
+Stevie Bon Cheers Stevie! TBH it was intended more as a "Look what happened while I changed my bars" kind of affair rather than a straight tutorial! And humour is luckily what seems to happen when I don't really plan anything through! Too old to change now though...
Loved this video. Informative yet funny. Glad it all worked out well too without broken parts at the end.
Fantastic video! Probably a million ways to do it all the same, but for the four u clamp bolts to keep the handlebars on, I usually finger tighten them down all until they start snugging up. Then I use the wrench to equally turn them so they all get tightened down equally. In this application, provably not that necessary because either they’re gripping the bars down or they aren’t, but I just do it out of habit. Awesome video, thanks for sharing with us.
The commentaries are just fantastic. Keep it going bud.
Thanks Nicolas! I'll do my best mate!
That was useful if only to illustrate why I couldn't rotate the switch housing when I was adjusting the bar rake on my FZ1.
Now I know what I'm up against when upgrading my bars. Thanks mate!
No worries! My pleasure in fact! Those pegs make sense, right up until you want to adjust anything! I'm glad to have raised a chuckle too! Nothing like a vicar/actress joke to start up a groan/laugh!
The arrows you pointed out on the clamps normally would indicate "top" or "front" not usually as which bolts to tighten first.
waterproof bath towel, I like the idea 👍🏼
Thanks for the cool video, I'm upgrading to FZ1 bars on my 08FZ6..!
+Raja Ram Mummadavarapu Could catch on i think. Quick drying. My pleasure, thanks for watching and i hope the bar switch went/goes smoothly.
I will receive it by end of this week, it is a used one, but no problems with the shape.
I'm wondering weather to do it before the track day on May 22nd or after it..!
I have only one week to get familiar with the new handlebar, I don't want to risk on the track.
What do you suggest, based on your experience?
I had a 1998 and then later got a 2001. Did the twin headlight conversion K&N and fitted Renthal Ultra Low WSB black bars to my black FZS. Was great after that. Sold the originals to a guy in Sweden 🇸🇪 for £30 plus postage. Good to see the old FZS it was a great bike and much underestimated.
I totally agree. Incredible to think that I got back into biking on a 95bhp bike with fantastic handling, and all for only £500!
What a very relaxing and calm motorbike maintenance video, Good show!
Delboy would be proud...
Cheers! I try and keep everything to do with the bike as calm as possible! But for the other bits, there's video editing!! :D
Need a pair of these for my build
When I wrap insulation tape around my bar to fix the throttle side controls in place, I’m left with a small gap at the back of the unit. If I put less tape on the bar then the unit moves 🫠
I’m guessing I need to make a pin/hole ?
Or maybe make peace with having a sight gap. It won’t hurt anything. Even without a gap, it’s still not waterproof.
@@AndyManCamused self amalgamating tape in the end and made peace with the gap! Though may get some black silicone to pop in there at some point.
Very glad I didn’t drill a hole in the end, as throttle was sticking on on full lock so had to rotate the throttle unit slightly for more cable length and all good 👍🏼 thanks for video
Ah, great shout! Nicely done!
that handlebar does not touch the windshield when you turn at the maximum? maybe in standing maneuvers? Great video
No, not at all. It's close, but I call that efficiency!
@@AndyManCam I bought a 22mm Pbr and the throttle cables touch the fairing ... maybe it's too straight
Sure, YMMV according to which bars you have.
Full of gems, you, indeed 😏 that was delightful to watch and listen to. U cracked me up! You are delightfully mad ☺️ Well done on the swap as well. Looked good 😎👍
Can you suggest me a bar for TDM900? The stock feels a bit narrow for my grip. And I would like it to be a couple centimetres lower. Not too much but a bit.
I’m afraid I have no experience with that bike, so wouldn’t know where to start! There must be a forum or two that you can ask for advice from?
The first bar looked like the most comfy, or more upright would be more like it. Weard the you could not use the first bars where you now live; ) but that's life in this big world. Do have a question about the forks, like how is the rebound damping on the bike, I read it has 4 way rebound, can you tell the difference ? Thanks..yl
+ylism I agree. The Renthal bars were by FAR and away the best, But sadly German rules are German rules! I'll be honest, I'm not sure what 'type' of rebound damping the forks have. But I always found the adjustment to be pretty good. I had them dialled in great for me with the right sag set on the pre-load and then just enough rebound damping to keep the forks fast without being bouncy. I did change the fork oil for a heavier weight to stiffen them up a little though as I'm a little on the large side!
Yes indeed a setup suspension works so much better than one that is way off. Sorry to hear that the rules are so weird, well to me they would be. Good for you it works ! Thanks. yl
Subbed for the water proof towel comment not herd that since training in the army.Great vid m8 made me miss my old fazer 99 got a newer model fazer 2003 great all round bike.Ride safe from Scotland
+Scotty Bhoy My second favourite after the chocolate fireguard. I've considered going back to 'the family' and getting a fazer thou. Just great bikes.
One of the most entertaining vids ive seen in along time .. informative also nice job 😂👍
+Ace _ Blue _ Thanks Ace! Some MORE handlebar swapping on the cards very soon!
Your commentary makes this video better. Thanks for the how-to.
+AG Cheers! Glad i helped ease the monotony of a handlebar swap! Thanks for watching!
Your voice works very well as ASMR! Thanks for the video
Haha! Who knew!? Thanks!
You needed to drill the new handlebars?
love your commentary you do on your videos
Thanks mate! Hopefully there’ll be a lot more coming soon!
This was a good video, came from watching Halfdead rider's video because he mentioned you when he tried to used them plugs for bar end mirrors, they did not work lol he cut the rubbers and hammered them in.
Thanks mate. And cheers to HDR for the mention! They were pretty fiddly to get them to work, those plugs. Certainly not a straightforward fix!!
How high are these compared to medium bars. I am confued between two.not sure of high will be too much high
Just about to do my handle bars, and stumbling over your vid whilst researching. Thanks for uploading. That bar end cheat is genius :) I'll be sure to put all my tools on the tank....cheers
Cheers! All credit to del boys garage though! I miss the flat topped tank of the Fazer. Can't put ANY tools on the new bike! ;)
Great video! Very curious, did you get the Fazer wrapped professionally or did you wrap it yourself? 🤔
Many thanks Kieran! I actually wrapped the Fazer myself. It was a bit of an experiment and also done before I started the channel.
Cool video I'm looking to get some Renthals for my fazer! also may i ask what mirrors you have on your fazer? Mine are standard and they're useless! are your ones from the fazer 1000 or the 600 foxeye? many thanks!
+Arron Adams Cheers Arron. They're actually modified FZ1/1000 mirrors. Had to drill a new hole in the mounting frame, but they worked great!
Great video! Informative and funny as hell. But damn, it must have taken forever to edit. lol
Thanks mate! You're damned right! But I enjoy the process and the result, so the editing is worth it!
Nicely done! I haven't seen a bike yet where the switch gear isn't a sod to re-assemble. You did well :o)
As it happens I have a spare replacement lens kit for the Drift HD, useless for me 'cos I upgraded to the Ghost. It's yours if you want it.
Thanks mate! A truly kind offer! I have now managed to procure a lens now. (from Louis, cheap, naturally!). But thanks so much for the thought. And in any case, it'd probably cost as much as buying to send it over the sea. And that's assuming it ever got here with my postal experiences of late!
No worries, it did cross my mind that getting it to you might be an adventure ;)
Ha ha! STill, thanks though! So is the Ghost much better? Obviously the picture is a little better, but in actual use, 'out in the field', how is it?
Andy Man Cam
Well there's a lot less puzzling about whether it's recording or not as the remote has LEDs to tell you, the mic & audio recording circuitry are much better, and the battery lasts for *ages*. I'm pretty happy with it :o)
Hi, are the renthal bars pre-threaded so I can use the oem bar ends? I have an 09 FZ6. Thanks!
+Fazer Afraid not. You can buy Renthal bar ends, but they're super expensive. I used delboys garage's trick with rawl plugs to put mine on.
I say ol' chap that was truly a rip-roaring journey of bar faffage and self discovery!
I don't know why but I never thought to mount the camera on a cap or something. That would be much easier! I think it's because I always assume the job at hand will take much less time than it inevitably does.
I used aluminium tape to hold my doo dars in place, seems to still be holding rather well.
Thanks for the mention my good man. I watched this thinking "Ahh... I have my standard bars in the shed, I could have sent them". You'd probably never receive them anyway!
I've given up thinking jobs will only take a second. Just assume it'll always be a four hour FAFF! Thanks for the bar thought, but tbh the originals were too narrow and too 'swept' for me anyway. Plus you've quite rightly second guessed DHL's ineptitude!!
Well if you ever lose a riser you know where I am ;D
Very good video anyway my dear, I laughed throughout!
The Gentleman Biker thank you kindly old bean!
man ! you have such an accent ! I totally like it !
Great video btw, much clearer than billions of others.
V
Glad you think so! Thanks very much!
which handlebar and manufacturer?
do you have to take it for a german mot ? its a bit of a pain changing it all
You only get 12 months on British plates. Then it's into the German system or a new bike. And the bike market is expensive here. To replace mine would cost more than twice what I paid in UK!
how closely do they inspect it,ie brake pads exhausts screens ,seems very harsh :-(
notAngryandy Think UK MOT, but where they actually do all the tests and more! And as it'll be an import, they'll double check it. I just had a tablet from China refused at customs because it didn't pass the 'stringent safety tests'. It's tighter than a ducks chuff over here.
I'm really considering buying these for my newly converted street fighter as I want to go on long trips ie. 1000 miles. You like them? Are you completely upright?
+Nathanial Ross (Nathan) I was a lot more upright with the Renthals actually. But the LSL's were much wider and flatter. I'd say they'd be great for a streetfighter.
+Andy Man Cam I currently have the LSL conversion kit installed and it's awesome to fly down the highway exits and do short term back road riding. However, I think I'll buy the 756 high Renthals for sport touring. LSLs still hurt your back after 4+ hours.
Do you know where the crank positioning sensor is located? I can not find it
No idea I'm afraid. Have you tried the Fazer Forums?
Andy Man Cam yes but some say one side and other says other side in the case. I am getting code 12 and it’s driving me nuts. I want to ride before the winter. Lol
Sorry I'm no help mate! Good luck getting out there before it snows!
So I'm gonna change mine virago bars thanks to your wise words, wish me luck, and yes I will film it I think!!
+Mr VanVan 13 Hope it went alright!
+Andy Man Cam yes it went very well, didn't film it but got a few picks, had a few issues but very happy
+Mr VanVan 13 Nice glad to hear it mate. Happy non aching wrists!!
That 11:30 phone tho 😊, those days
Aaaah, i bloody LOVED that phone!! An i the only one who misses physical keys!?
Oh yes, you did make me laugh, as the actress said...... to me just the other day!😋
can you tell me the exact bars you took off? That is what I need.
+stephenmwyatt2 They were Renthal 756's amzn.to/1Qt9gU7
So great!
Thanks Paul!
Excellent video! I have just bought a Fazer 600 and I need a bit more height on the bars due to old wrists and surgery. What is the height difference between the 755 and 756? And did you need to run new cables etc? Thank you.
Congrats! I'm afraid i don't know the height difference, but with mine it was all done with the standard cables and lines. 👍
Eyup bud, sorry I know it's a while since you uploaded this video...just wondering what the new bars are, don't suppose you remember?
I think they are LSL superbike bars. More than that, I'm afraid I couldn't say.
Cheers bud, I'll go have a gander on the tinterweb.
Cheers for the reply and the video, it's a bloody nightmare trying to find a good in depth video...👍
I realize this is an old video, but did some authority actually check your bars, to cause you to have to change them?
They would have. This exercise was carried out with the eventual goal of importing the bike into Germany. In doing so, they would have checked everything with a fine toothed comb. I then decided NOT to do that and bought a bike locally instead. But I've seen the test guy measure the dimensions of the windscreen to check that it matched the paperwork. VERY strict here in Germany.
Are they the 7/8 Street handle bars?
You’re talking old money, but yes. I’m pretty sure that they are!
It seems so weird how the front end stays in place when you turn the handlebars...
New design. Subliminal steering.
why didn't u just keep the rentals and show them the paperwork of the lsl bars
Because the specs in the paperwork wouldn't match the dimensions of the Renthal bars. And the TÜV tester this year got his tape measure out and checked! So that's a BAD idea I'm afraid!
Thanks
My pleasure!
you prized the clutch lever open with a screwdriver tho... mate thats alloy.. your lucky it didnt snap
I did it with control, feel and panache. I save the breaking forces for seized nuts and bolts! 😂
What are bar ends for?
+Ron McDonald protecting the ends of the bars in a spill, and also as counterweights to suppress vibrations in the bars.
great job!
+Peter Kejla Cheers Peter.
ps, thanks to Moonfleet41 for the Renthal Bar end cheat!
Good old del knows his stuff, bars look great mate
Can you come and do my bars
Gail Porters hairbrush 😂😂😂
Not my most PC statement! 🙈
Totally agree with the screw part from yamaha. the screw are unbelievable rubbish, they completely deteriorates after a while. no order or sense using them all over. one side is philips, other side is allen, etc etc
It's like watching Jeremy Clarkson change the handlebars
Always good entertainment, look forward to more vids.good job your not a women the way you drop things.
I know! Maybe I should try to drop stuff and Murphys law will keep them in my hands!
"...Think that the English are mad..." Hahaha Trust me , the Germans already think we are.
+Grumpy old sod on a bike. Sadly in my year and a half here, I've done nothing to disprove this idea!!
Hahaha Good...Keep it up.
dude, you're hilarious !
+Pablo Navarro Thank you very much! If only my girlfriend thought so! 😂
Andy Man Cam hahahaha, do a video to her !
I live in New Mexico, U.S.A., and you can legally ride with a girls bikini bottom and thats it. You need glasses if you have no windshield
+stephenmwyatt2 HAHAHA! Sounds like my idea of heaven! I've been waiting to find the place where I can finally ride in my bikini!
In Europe we need only helmet and even no need bikini at all.
nice vid.
Cheers Matt!
no worries, you actually made a bike maintenance vid entertaining! good going!!
Matt Moto Well thats EXACTLY what I wanted to hear! So Thanks VERY much! :D
very funny ..top man!
Cheers again dude!
Shit myself so hard at the 12:53 horn beep!
+tomr200199 Sorry! Censorship turns offensive!
Buggers
🤷🏻♂️??
The actress and the bishop has become recognised as a little old and dated cliché.......the modern version has the bishop with the choirboy.......(wincing but laughing at the very thought)
To be honest, most of my humour is a little old and cliché! It's my niché! My Bishop was always very good to me....
You just won a new click on the subscribe button!
cops look at handlebars?
+stephenmwyatt2 I don't think so unless you give them reason to, or you have the bars off of a child tricycle! I think the main thing is that they will check them if you were to have any kind of accident. Lots of box ticking and rule following over here!
Full of gems, you, indeed 😏 that was delightful to watch and listen to. U cracked me up! You are delightfully mad ☺️ Well done on the swap as well. Looked good 😎👍
Cheers very much Adam! 👍🏻
How wide is the handlbar?
You can probably find it on the Renthal website. 👍🏻
