What a relief to find a version with the original audio!
Stunning! The film gave me a feeling of reverence so strong I felt as if i was standing in the cathedral. I also find it intriguing that the other tributes seemed peaceful and serene, they didn't give off a "i just got murdered by a tree"vibe at all.Beautiful film , Congratulations!

The original title is "Katedra," which is just Polish for "Cathedral."

@@183lucrido_ase It is inspired by the short story of the same name by Jacek Dukaj. "Plot" of this little pearl is basically its own thing. You can interpret it in many ways though I like to think it's about our relation to our own past and culture.
The soundtrack on this, is amazing
For me, the greatest animation I have ever seen! It portrays the powerful imagery of depressive realism and the dystopian impact of religion!
I remember being blown away by the original when I saw this in the '90s (Oscar shorts then, as I recall), but could never find it to show people. Thanks for this remake!

Remember watching this in 2003, 1st year uni, as part of an animation course in Hull, UK. They played this before we watched Zatoichi. Damn, almost 20 years ago... my god.

Almost appears as it was intentional and one after another goes to the edge to give life for a spanning bridge? Probably overanalyzing and it was just a trap.

@@ashadynet Если вы внимательно читали мой комментарий, то увидите, что я это прекрасно понимаю. Т.к. не зря упомянул 2002-й год. Но мой коммент был ведь не об этом, а о том, что смысла никакого в видео нет, так же как нет предыстории и смысла. Нам просто продемонстрировали технические возможности и скилл разработчиков.
Взгляд на лёгкие курильщика в эпицентре разрушения и их восстановление как и скорость роста клетки.
Почитала комментарии и не нашла ни одного, кто бы сказал о том, как это страшно. Я увидела здесь человека, который отдал жизнь за величественную и ужасную идею, и это очень меня напугало.
На счёт идеи не знаю. Но вы правы, очень странно и страшно!

A great CG visual story with stirring sounds about the material used for an alien cathedrals construction.
I sensed as I viewed the story that I was watching a newer kind of story telling, so artful and meaningful.

@@resiknoiro7506 It is based on short story (never translated to english) written by polish sci-fi and fantasy author Jacek Dukaj. The story takes place in the distant future. The main character is a catholic priest from Earth who arrives on the asteroid to investigate the site of miraculous healings. In the past, a lander crashed on an asteroid, one of the cosmonauts gave his life so that the rest would survive. On the basis of his dedication, the cult of Izmir (the asteroid is called Izmirad) was created.. A cathedral was built at the site of his death. The main material for its construction was crystal, which reproduced itself like a plant or fungus. Hence the appearance of this cathedral reminiscent of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona (Dukaj's main inspiration). As a result of the crystal poisoning, the priest cannot escape from the asteroid, which is getting further and further away and it is impossible to return to earth. At the very end, the priest transforms into part of the cathedral. Before he dies, he sees her inhabitants - ghosts or an alien life form. He joins them and moves away into the darkness of space.

I want more! When I write this what I am watching may be short but I loved it. I watched 3 times, will wait for awhile and watch again on a much larger screen. It will be glorious.

Originally saw this on the Animation Show DVD like fifteen years ago or has it been longer, a cathedral that immobilizes explorers all due to the proximity of a neutron star of some sort is still to this day one hell of a novel concept, fossilization from first light:)

Okay, I've read the novel. It ain't a masterpiece, yet kinda nice. Still, it has nothing in common with this movie besides a sort of eclectic cathedral shown in both. And i don't get symbology of this movie. I mean, anyone can find anything they want in this, if they want. Yeah, sure. Easily! Does this make the movie amazing? Nope, this makes it empty. Nothing but an empty shell, filled by each every watcher with their own meanings and senses. Does it have its own sense and content? I don't get it, sorry. Empty shell.
Free, exacerbated, artistic, something really creative.. which we cannot say of much of the short videos sadly..

Что-то или кто-то влияет на код кристалла-улья Собора и на траекторию роя астероидов. Священник Пьер Лавон, отправленный в Измирис, должен решить вопрос о святости и чудесах Измира-Преду и раскрыть тайну Измираида - до того, как астероиды и собор исчезнут навеки в межзвездной пустоте...

So, does this mean that, the guy knew this was going to happen, and this was his fate from birth? Saw this a few years back on a PBS presentation of "Image Makers", a short film(s) platform. Absolutely love it.. Left me with so many questions.
It's based on a book and he was infected with the material which cathedral is made of, in book it was shown better, as he was falling deeper into torment and eventually he became one with it

@@juansanez3078 i think he seen the destoryed and useless things in front of then he decided to enter that gate because he want to see changes or enlightmment .torch one that stick shows little knowledge of him and stick signifies the attachment or illusion of this material world,from his understanding he sees things and analyse the world.when he approched to last point and waited there ... it implies he had covered the path to enlightment but become hopeless as there was nothing .higj intensity light implies to enlightment as it touched the person his hand got burned and stick was dissapear it implies that man was free from all time of illusion and attachments and become enlightened.
i think this the meaning of this with my small understanding.

Of the five projects nominated for Best Animated Short Film in 2002, this one is by far my favorite. It certainly deserved to win over the Chubbchubbs!
по стилистике что-то из роликов к старым играм, вроде Диабло-2. Сделано превосходно, конечно.

Was a long time subscriber to Heavy Metal. I sure wish I still had them.
Even before those, there were Vampirella and some other 'horror' comics in the '70s that truly rocked. I remember teachers at school berating me for reading those, and treating me as though I had some sort of complex; I just got a kick out of the fantastic artwork and the interesting ideas presented therein. Richard Corben's work was truly amazing (IMHO), but he had plenty of company...I believe he recently passed away...RIP.
