I loved the fact you never knew what their next song would sound like.

my theory is anything that is truly underrated just needs more time until it (eventl. slowly) will be reasonably rated .

When did the Banshees ever fail to produce a masterpiece? Diverges from their early "punk" roots so effortlessly. Proof they cannot be typecast.

Between these days, I was ripping some cds from my collection to keep them safe. So suddenly, I found "Twice Upon a Time" and this beautiful song.
I don't know how many times I played in a row... But it brought me a happyness that only Siouxie gives me.

Wonderful version! I had the original version in the LP Peepshow, and it was very beautiful as well.
Strange though it seems to me now, until I saw them printed below I had never bothered to investigate the lyrics to this song. Siouxsie really is an incredibly under-rated lyricist - one of the very best in my opinion. You could easily publish a book of them and they would easily stand up alone from the music. Painted Bird and Carousel are favourites of mine, although a few idiotic lyrics sites still have the latter credited to Ashley Gorley and Bryan Simpson, who I believe are obscure C&W artists who wrote en entirely different song of the same name. Not very Country is it?

@@JoshuaJClarkeKelsallI had no idea about that, assuming that Siouxsie wrote all the lyrics, Are you now going to tell me he wrote the wonderful lyrics to Carousel as well? How annoying is it that most of the lyrics websites credit those to the writers of of some naff old C&W song of the same name?
I've emailed LyricFind to correct them, but all these sites simply seem to copy each other, so they all make the same mistake.

Great production! Disney-humuor, metallic bass and guitar. And I Imagine walking in a sunny city! Siouxsies voice sounds trapped in some vacuum, suitable for the song!

The last truly classic song by Siouxsie and The Banshees , they naver faltered , their last tour showed what a sadly missed act they are. She's still with us, how thankful we should all be.
@GazaStripped Can't agree there, as Stargazer from The Rapture was an absolutely glorious song in the finest Banshees tradition. Love Out Me wasn't too shabby either, although all the ones produced by John Cale were absolutely dreadful.

It's about the (de)evolution of a man who collects and kills butterflies and knowing it will be children he will kill in time. He puts the butterflies in a killing jar and they suffocate and starve to death - slow and painful. Siouxsie knew what men are capable of and she made her observations in song - Candyman is another like this. Hope this helps.

The Banshees' devolution from the deliciously harsh & angular sounds of postpunk to a more generic 80s alternative pop was inevitable, but still sad. This is an alright song but no Night Shift or Metal Postcard or Hybrid...
Interestingly enough, "Peek-a-Boo" was the first song I heard by them and fell in love, back in 1988. Then one summer in New York, I went to the Village and found one of those underground record stores you couldn't find in South Florida and I started buying the first ones (on cassette!) including, of course, The Scream... loved them all! Then Superstition came out a few years later and I was heartbroken... I HATED it! That one to me was the de-evolution I you are talkign about! However, I had to see them for the first time in Lollapalooza, then they finally did come to Miami! I was in the front row standing on a chair, and I could have sword that Siouxsie gave me a thumbs up when I was mouthing all the words to "Metal Postcard"! The Rapture was, in my opinion, a far superior album, to the awful Superstiion. But Peepshow holds a special place in my heart :-)
