    British Humor = Witty, sarcastic, direct, puns, dry humor, skates very close to the edge. A John Cleese quote: "An Englishmen would rather be told he was a bad lover than he has no sense of humor. This personifies the Brits way at looking at life.

    Karl is a legend, he's not dumb in any sense, he's just an extremely simple man. A bit too simple for our modern world in some senses.
    Can't help but love the fellow.

    • @andrew348
      @andrew348 2 роки тому +38

      I wouldn't even call him simple. Much of what he says is actually profound thought. He just thinks from a different angle than most people are conditioned to think from...

    • @jonathanshaw7355
      @jonathanshaw7355 2 роки тому +12

      He has a lot of common sense but he finds it difficult to process a different point of view. So you end up with a person who see the world very black and white.
      Edit
      And when he has an idea for something it’s near impossible to change his mind. That’s when things go sideways.

    • @scootaymildo1070

      Doug Stanhope summed him up really well "Karl Pilkington may be the one person I that I have more in common with than any person I've met outside of stand-up comedy. No interests, no hobbies, but pure and simple logic. Like me, heavy on the simple. "

    • @Scottoest
      @Scottoest 2 роки тому +4

      Karl's not 100% dumb, but not dumb in any sense? Yeah no, lol. Most of his worst (and funniest) stupidity comes from his inability to think abstractly, and his extreme ignorance of most topics.
      He's a simple man with simple desires, and there's some simple wisdom or truth in some of the things he says. But he also talks metric tons of absolute bollocks.

    Just for your info, Karl is from the city of Manchester. His accent is pure Manchester, and (this is not an insult in any way, I have family there and lived in the area myself) his mannerisms and outlook on life are not at all uncommon there! I love how he navigates life on his own simplistic practical level, oblivious to its complexities.

      I'm from Manchester and yes, Karl is a typical manc. We have what most people would think is a very depressed negative way of looking at things but that's just how we are. It just sounds like that but its not how we think just how we sound. Manc's are very crude and direct with no bullshit, we say it how it is and never dress things up to make them sound better.

      He's actually like this in real life, at first, everyone thinks he's one of those deadpan comedians who plays the part of an idiot, but in truth, he's unusually simple. His Mensa IQ is below average at 83, but this is what has given him an unusual edge and made him a millionaire out of people being curious about his oddities. Wear and where are phonetically identical. Your vocal cords etc. are in identical positions to produce both words because physically they are the same word. Karl wasn't wrong in this way at least. When you think about it from the point of view of a non-native english speaker, you actually would teach wear and where as the same word initially. No need to split hairs until the new english speaker gains a stronger grasp on the language and the teacher can begin to differientiate words to proper spelling and distinct definitions.

    The 'you stink, you shit' is actually 'you stink, you shit?' short for 'have you shit?' which we in England use for a fart, asking someone if they shat, is asking them if they farted. There's a stink in the air, so someone must've farted/shat themselves. So it's good manners to let people know it's not you by making the accusation on someone else. If you're in a supermarket checkout line and you smell shit, it is usual to loudly proclaim, 'oh that stinks' and then pick someone else in the queue and ask 'you shit?'.
    If you require any other help please feel free to ask, I'm happy to help.

      He's far from unique, it's just that people like him rarely get the level of exposure that he has. While he is like this IRL, he does crank it up greatly for the telly.

    How Karl keeps a straight face is brilliant. The pair of them together is genius.
    Love the reacts to British comedy. Keep them coming. Have you seen Mrs Brown's boys bikini wax?

    Great reaction and its great you've got the love for Karl and Ricky. Bit of a trivial knowledge but Karl lived just two streets away from me in Sale, Manchester. Always got time for the Mancunians xxx Stay safe from Manchester UK
    If you want more of Ricky and Karl watch "Derek". Its the funniest thing ever. Karl is still a "bald" caretaker in an old people's home and Ricky plays Derek who just spends his days with the elderley people in the home and lacks capacity in it but he's so endearing. They made 2 series but sadly Karl isn't in the second series as he didn't want to typecast himself. It is soooooooooo funny and there are some English actors in it.

    I discovered this video in 2014, and it's truly classic. It's a damn shame that Ricky and Karl don't work together anymore. I believe the friendship ended as well.

    "Wear" and "Where" are indeed two words, but he obviously just meant they sound the same.
    It's the reason in spelling contests they have to give an example of the word being used to know the context.

      They could also easily troll the contestants with this fact. lol
      "Where/Wear"... I don't know "where" i'm gonna "wear" this.
      Can i get a different example?
      "Where/Wear"...I'm gonna "wear" this "where" the sun doesn't shine. lol

    As someone from the UK you should definitely go to Greece before the UK. So much more to do in Greece, nice weather, beaches, islands, food…etc. I’d move to Greece in a heartbeat if I could.

      Greece is beautiful, no doubt about that but so is Britain. We have great beaches, countryside, culture & a great range of international culinary dishes. You may need to get out more. They do seriously beat us on the weather front though.😉

      I'm from Australia. Spent a few months in England and Scotland. Had an absolute blast. The hospitality of people, and the banter, is great. I've always been all over British humour and culture though. So I was very eager to get there. My mum also grew up there for 12 years. But I probably do get what you mean. Greece probably has more unique and interesting sites. UK is mostly castles and pubs. But that's not to say there isn't some amazing stuff to see in the UK. Stratford-Upon-Avon, Inverness, etc. There are some very cool random spots. I think the same about Australia. It's a little bit boring for me. But there are some amazing things to do here.
