I loved this song as a young teenager. Today was the first time I'd ever seen it - but this video is very unsettling. I definitely can see both side of the main argument on here - is the man angry at his wife for cheating on him with a black guy or is he trying to woo the young black girl. I see both points of view. At first my thought was he is trying to sleep with the little girl, but the part about the fish tank got me thinking in another direction. I got the impression they were so posed to be piranha - that's why the keeps telling the girl to stick her hand in the tank. I think way the singer is singing the song in the video makes it very creepy too.
Sometimes words can have two or more meanings. So can videos, and this one is clearly multifaceted. I do believe the child is the product of an affair. First, because her skin tone is dark. Second, because the black man gets an "oh shit" look on his face when he sees her. Almond is focused on the child, but he does turn his head angrily at the woman and the man. As if to say, "I knew it, and here's the proof." Admittedly, he toys with the child, and the subliminal messages are kinda creepy. But ultimately, he shoos her away. However, to really sell that storyline some of the lines in the song should have been delivered to the mother, and they weren't ("This tainted love *you've* given"). Because of this it looks like he's fully speaking to and about the child, which conveys a quite different meaning.

I loved this song as a young teenager. Today was the first time I'd ever seen it - but this video is very unsettling. I definitely can see both side of the main argument on here - is the man angry at his wife for cheating on him with a black guy or is he trying to woo the young black girl. I see both points of view. At first my thought was he is trying to sleep with the little girl, but the part about the fish tank got me thinking in another direction. I got the impression they were so posed to be piranha - that's why the keeps telling the girl to stick her hand in the tank. I think way the singer is singing the song in the video makes it very creepy too.

Sometimes words can have two or more meanings. So can videos, and this one is clearly multifaceted.
I do believe the child is the product of an affair. First, because her skin tone is dark. Second, because the black man gets an "oh shit" look on his face when he sees her.
Almond is focused on the child, but he does turn his head angrily at the woman and the man. As if to say, "I knew it, and here's the proof."
Admittedly, he toys with the child, and the subliminal messages are kinda creepy. But ultimately, he shoos her away.
