@@SRVandDtrouble its sad. I've done two in my wife's car and luckily this one seems to be doing much better than the factory unit and the first replacement. The ac condensers are terrible also.
Yes on my 09 this will be the 3rd replacement and Ford did the first one and gave it a 2 year warranty and when it started messing up like it did before they replaced it they wanted to put it on the computer the catch was they charge to do so,we said that it is the same problem so I bought a new one and replaced it myself and it has lasted about 2 years
Thank you! It took me 2 hours, but I did it! And I didn't it all by myself! ...with help from staff at the AutoZone! I'm so proud of myself, and so thankful to you for taking the time to make this video. The only challenge I had was removing the broken ignition switch...I had to use a screwdriver to push up the lower tab, and then to push down the upper tab, and then wiggle the unit out. I can't believe my car is working now!
MIDAS wanted me to replace starter after I replaced it less than a month for $700 plus. Lol. Part only cost $57 and it solves the problem i had. Thank you so much
I am having to replace mine. Last year I had a temporary fix but, it is messing up again. Glad I found this video helped a lot. Maybe I can get it together without messing up my car.
My man, for this to be your first video, you did your thing! We had the same problem with our 2010 and step by step you walked us through this and we fixed the problem! Thanks so much for your time and video.
As of June 2021 this is still a pro tip! I have a 2008 Focus and haven’t been able to properly start my car for about a year. You really have to push it in and turn it a few times to get it going. It actually made the handle of my key break, that’s when I thought I should get this fixed. Someone told me it was an issue with a black box that needs replaced and it can only be done at the dealership and I went there like an idiot. They were going yo charge me $135 just to look at it. I said no it’s an issue with some sort of ignition box under the wheel and they said it could be two possible issues, both parts were $200 and when you factored in labour they quoted me at $750. I said no way and went home and googled my issues and this video came up. The symptoms described here matched mine and the black box sounded like the thing I was originally told about. I bought it for $50 on Amazon in Canada and put it in myself in about 30min and it works like a charm :) big thanks to you my friend! This wasn’t even the part the dealership quoted me!
YOU ARE THE GOAT FOR THIS VIDEO ! the repair shop quoted me $400. My friends dad followed this video and we got it started it for $50. Thank you so much for sharing this !
This is exactly wha my ford focus 2010 doing rn!! I thought it was a electric problem.. saved the day literally.. we thought it was the battery so we brought a new battery for no reason last night 🤦🏾♂️ thanks again!
Great video. Just watched as I was replacing the ignition switch on my daughters 2010. You’re right, the lower cover is the hardest part. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the video. My Mercury Mariner was getting harder to start and I thought it was the cylinder lock. Your video showed the real issue. $55 and twenty minutes later I have it fixed. Thanks for explaining it so well. And on the Mariner, I didn't have to remove the blinker.
Thank you so much for making this video. It was exactly what was wrong with it. It took me 35 min to change it and the hardest part I had was getting the bottom steering wheel cover off. Lol. You're a wallet saver for sure.
Just wanted to say thank you my man! I was having THE WORST DAY EVER until I found this video. My girlfriend had a 2010 Ford Focus SE. Her car was doing exactly what you described. I spent 70 bucks on a key replacement and that didn’t work. Then I found this video and BAM, problem solved. I’ll die before I spend $500+ at the dealer to get this shit fixed.
Thank you so much for this video,I got the part for 40 and you save me a lot of $$$ for what it would of cost me to take it to the shop. Have a Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family!
Today I put one in my 2010 Ford Focus. I ordered the switch online. Your video was my go-to. Cost me nothing but the cost of the part. Thank you for this, bro!
Wow I have the exact same car with the exact same problem. Even after watching this video I'm not confident enough in myself to properly install it but you did give me the alternative of buying the ignition cylinder myself and have my father-in-law install it rather than going to a shop and have them do everything for an inflated price. This will save me at least $100. Thanks!
thanks for this video! had to help my mother out with this today. couldnt figure out how to dislodge the first switch - we figured it out by watching you reassemble this one! thanks again dude :)
Thanks for the video, it was really helpful, I thought I might have to remove more parts until I went back inside and watch it again to figure out how to get the switch out.
I have same year model car and was having issues of key turning but no motor start. Saw this and thought that is exactly what I need. Got part and T20 and when it finally wouldn't start, was able to change out in ten minutes due to your video. Thank you very much. However, looking at old piece, seems wasn't worn at all and then figured that it probably had just become loose from where it was clipped in. But switched it out anyway. Now seem to have an extra lol. Thanks and have a great day.
Wow! Just got threw repairing my Focus! and just like you Outlined the repair was easy! Bro You save me a BUTT LOAD of Dollars!! Thank You!! It took all of 51 mins Wow! and so happen that was the cost of the Ignition switch in this area! You Are The Man! Stay Honest My Friend we need more of that in this World! Thanks Again!
I give you major thank you! Very good video. Took me 15 mins to change it out. Cost me 32 dollars. Saved me hundreds. Thought i was gonna have to replace key cylinder. Props to you!
Thanks so much for the video. My car is a 2010 Focus SE, and I had the (same) issue with the ignition switch. Thanks to you, I was able to change it out myself. So, thanks again.
you just saved me. thanks! I just bought an 09 at auction. they said it ran and went to drive home and nothing. I turned the key hard like you said and it worked. looks like a switch needing replaced.
Thanks! Your video helped me easily fix my 2008 ford escape. I bought the part and fixed it in less than an hour. It was very easy to do. No more struggling to start my car.
Wow thank you for posting this. I checked the comments first and you helped a lot of of people including me! I just took mine out waiting for rain to stop then going to get new one but I am a lot more confident after watching this. Glad I’m not the only one! Hopefully that fixes it but I see it’s all worn down so probably it. But I didn’t have to take off the blinker, just once you find the tab on the bottom you’ll know where the top is just pops off. I got my old one off from start to finish in like four minutes.
Great video thank you for it.. You saved me a couple hundred dollars the dealer wanted to charge me to have them do it. I thought it was going to be hard then seen your video.
THANKS for posting this video. Had the same problem and wanted to see a video before I attempted to fix mine. Watched this and fixed mine in no time flat. Tell your wife you have got another you tube fan :)! Thanks again Sir.

I was told it was either the flange or key cylinder at the dealership and they wanted $750 to replace these. I said no and googled it and found this video and bought the part for $50. Bless this video
does anybody know what tools ill need exactly? it looks simple enough (great video explaining how to do it btw) but i just need to know what tools i need to remove everything and put it back together.
You just saved my retired mom a ton of money. It only took me a half hour. God bless you for this video. You're a good man
Ford should have done a recall on that. Every focus I know of has had the same problem. Great video bro.
+1
Yep I replaced my brothers about a year ago and already needs replacement again.

Thank you, very much, for posting this. By following it, I was able to replace the switch on my 2008 Focus SES. Can you refer me to a video on replacing the tumbler cylinder?
Very helpful! Thank you!
I was told it's the flange but I believe it's the ignition switch like you just did.
I was told it was either the flange or key cylinder at the dealership and they wanted $750 to replace these. I said no and googled it and found this video and bought the part for $50. Bless this video
Thanks will keep it for future repairs.
People are telling me this is difficult to replace. It looks pretty easy. I hope it's not that the guy in the video is a super expert.
Having trouble taking the switch out. Got the top part off but the bottom tab doesnt want to give.
do you have to do anything involving reprogramming a key when you do this?
That's great, but why are there no videos showing how to remove the old one?
does anybody know what tools ill need exactly? it looks simple enough (great video explaining how to do it btw) but i just need to know what tools i need to remove everything and put it back together.
I put the new one in and it is really loose. Any advice? Ignition not turning either.
Brilliant tutorial... thank you!
What screwdriver or socket did you use for the three bolts that hold the bottom cover in place?
7/32 socket
Will I need to have my transponder key reprogrammed after replacing this?
So only if I change out my ignition lock?
Thanks for the helpful video
Awesome. Saved me a bundled
THANK YOU BROTHER THE BEST
