  • Here is the final part of my DX Command Signature 9 build series. Here we take to the garden to finish assembling the antenna. I then go on to install, on the pre-installed ground support and then onto test the VSWR.
    I finish off with listening around the HF bands and then making an awesome contact into Ukraine with the Signature 9 and my FTDX-10 using 100 Watts.

    Nice one Mat! For future reader, full tuning tips in the User Guide :) And once done, tension the nuts of that shock-cord! :)

    Great Signature 9 assembly videos - one of the more detailed ones I have viewed - very much appreciated. I am thinking about purchasing this antenna - hopefully you are still happy with the antenna after a year.

    Excellent step-by-step. I am a visual learner and this had all the pieces of the puzzle shown including tying the tension straps.

    A good series on the Sig 9. Thanks. Putting mine up during the next week, weather permitting.👍

    Thanks for the video Matt. With all due respect to Cormack, I have always been a little skeptical of the DX-Commander. Your video has been very reassuring and I shall take the time to research DX-Commander further. Cormack should be very grateful of your 3 videos. Cheers ZL2VTH

    The signature 9 looks a really promising antenna, I know a few people that could find this of use. Will recommend.

    Nice work Mat great build and proformance. I have also contemplated this antenna for my qth. I think any antenna I get/use is compromised due to my location and surroundings. I now have the atu in your other video. 👍🏽
    Good work. Motters M7TRS 73👍🏽

    I find it interesting that you have the handi-clamps on top of the spreaders. Is that because the spreader plates were a tad loose, because in the unified build manual it says to place the clamps under the spreader and above the joint at the join. The below is copied from the Unified Antenna Kit - User Guide - April 2023 V1.24
    "STAY UP KIT
    You will find specialist nylon (PA66 material) hose-clamps in the accessories kit. The screw threaded part needs to be pushed into the band and click. Fit above each join and cut remainder of the tab clean off. A lighter will smooth the edge where you cut it.
    Note: Expedition Kits have wing-nuts and the remaining kits have 8mm Hex bolt heads. Clamps go JUST ABOVE each join to stop sections collapsing.
    Use all the clamps in the kit from fattest pole section to smallest pole section. You will eventually run out of clamps because the minimum bend radius of the clamps are 20mm (just under 1 inch) and not enough bend to go around the smallest sections. If you end up with a spare, just store it.
    Note: Fit your clamps below each plate and above the join." This is from page 5 of 38.
    So why are your clamps above the plates? I don't supposed it matters in the long run except how it might impact the ability of the clamps to keep the pole from collapsing. Just sayin'...
    This still a very good build video. I learned a lot from the series.

    hi matt very good video i watch all your videos mate and some times buy antennas what you do reviews on i have not long bought the 7 band cobweb from poland which im very pleased with and even got into cal the othr night and i was that strong he said your doin well on your kilo watt lol the thing whats stopping me getting any of the dx commandos is people who have them say it is terible for the noise and as i live in a very built up area i don,t know if it will work well here 73 from m7byf

    Nice build Mat! I have two cool additions for this antenna. Remove the 30m element and cut a 80m element of 19.5 meter to get on that band. If you want to get on 160m you can add a variable air coil L to tune it on that band as well. It's then a baseloaded inverteld of for 160m. Of course you'll have some losses, but you'll get on all bands. Great for contesting for example :) Have fun with you new antenna! How are the noise levels in your area?

    Looks like a great antenna. Interested to see how it holds up to the weather and wind without any guys? Will you keep it for a long term test?

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  Рік тому +2

      I guess it depends on the soil that the ground mount is in. For long term use I would either concrete the ground and use with out guys, or use with guys if the ground mount is only in earth. For short time use I would say how I have it now would be okay.

    Nice video! I received my Sig 9 this afternoon and planted the base pole in 80 lbs of concrete. Good to see your SWR numbers and the great performance. I'm thinking about converting 30m to 6m. Have you considered doing this? If so is it a simple matter of shortening the 30m element?

  • @borayurt66
    @borayurt66 Рік тому

    Impressive antenna performance. But I guess it can only be used on a yard like you did, not suitable for a roof or a terrace mount. Also it seemed a bit too wobbly to me, I am afraid it will be a bit dangerous in windy places.

    Hi Matt, I enjoyed this series, thank you. What is the VNA you are using to sweep the bands? Did you measure swr at the antenna as well as in the shack? The coax can hide a lot…

    Thanks Mat. Great video. How much wind was there while you were filming? The mast was swaying a bit. I know it doesn't need guy wires. How do you feel about the stability?

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  Рік тому

      Thanks Jeff. The top of these poles are thinner than the base, so swaying is kind of normal. For a permanent install I would either concrete the ground mount pole or use it in earth with small guys. It’s stayed up 4 days so far with just the ground mount in earth and no concrete. :)

    Great Matt, Answered another of my questions on the Sig 9…
    I’m hoping I can go with this DXC as I don’t want stay wires, but does the antenna spin much on the mounting pole in high wind did you notice?

      @TechMindsOfficial  Місяць тому +1

      I’m planning to build a little circular concrete base around it and bury the feeder cable and radials so I can mow around it easily.

    Is the foldback length included in the cut length or do I add it to the cut length. Stupid question I know but I guess I am stupid. :)

    In my opinion you cannot touch a better antenna for twice the price, plus Callum offers something most manufacturers do not and that is service after the sale!!!
