- Finding a replacement for the 4 element multi-band yagi was not difficult, I can only go vertical on a flat roof. After watching many UA-cam videos I decided to buy one, the signature 9 was perfect for me, being self supporting, Martin Lynch and son UK 🇬🇧 gave a quick and efficient service 👍🏻. Was 500 euros inclusief 90 euros inport tax and postage. First impressions are very positive, good quality materials, easy to put up,almost plug and play 👍. For my situation it seems the more radials the better, but only to a point. Initial Conclusion good value, receives and transmitted well,and easily taken down. In my situation i found 2 common mode chokes were very effective in reducing RF in my shack for more information Google...PA9X lots of useful tips 👍🏻however I will make a follow up video in a couple of months, hopefully this has been useful to someone 73s from Rotterdam 🙏

Like you I especially like the speed of upsy / downy in the event of poor weather.
I also take it down when I am not playing radio so no one can complain, ( and also not to fall foul of the UK planning regulations. )

@@Bernard-John Bernard you took down the yagi was that due to your noise floor or planning reasons? I have been playing with a wire delta loop cut for 40m band it covers down to 10 with a home made 4/1 lucky my noise floor on most bands is pretty low, I am also seeing the lines on several band’s strange conditions currently but still getting a few in the log the FT710 is working well. @@TonyM7CVK Good Afternoon thanks for your comments, it's more my age the yagi was 30kg and the maintenance was getting a bit difficult, at my apartment I can only go vertical, and living in the centre of Rotterdam don't help with the noise level, but we do the best we can, hopefully you can sort things out with your shack, 73s from Rotterdam 🙏.
thanks for sharing. I only use vertical ants for long haul dx, mine is in the tree,s and bushes and right next to a wood shed, but still gets long haul dx every day. ferrite clamps also work really well on both ends of the coax for noise reduction. 73 zl3xdj.

I had to mount mine on my highest decking which placed the antenna about half a metre off the ground. The only effect I noticed was all the tunings came out low but that was fairly easy to resolve except 15m which was slightly more involved using Callums fix.

Hi, after 3 months the antenna is still fixed on the roof of your house? I found your video very interesting even if it lacks transmission tests, I have limited space on the roof and I was thinking about a solution like this, I also saw your video on the sigma 360 but I think this is a more performing solution without a doubt. How does it behave with the wind? Have you put up any guy ropes in view of the winter? I would use it mainly for the 40 meter band. Thanks for all your information
@@iu1olr Good afternoon, unfortunately I found transmission test are not relevant because our working conditions are different,,,I got the model without guy line's, easy to take down in storms, the sigma 360 is very compromised and only in emergency conditions, if you are working 40m mostly there must be cheaper alternatives to the DX COMMANDER ANTENNA,,I am curious what you decide to do,,,,73s from Rotterdam 🙏

@iu1olr Hi I would suggest type into UA-cam for example 1/4 wave vertical for 40m and see what happens, good luck 👍
Use an elasticated strainer to spread the elements at the bottom and you can do all your adjustments without taking it down. I made my own using a much stronger Spiderbeam pole and I’ve never had to take it down for adjusting. Much better job.

More radials will add some bandwidth and little better SWR. Also radials between 3,5 and 4 meters will do fine. To short is not so good. Normally two wavelenghts for the lowest band will have very nice results both in SWR as in signal and bandwidth.
I must say that you have rather high noise floor at your location. Over here my place is more rural and most bands are very quiet. The lines on the waterfall sometimes refer to solar panels. I'm looking at this antenna to. I have a 23m endfed hove wave (80-40-20-15-10) in inverted-L configuration and would like to add a second antenna being a vertical.
I have been experimenting with the Rybakov antenna with 4:1 UNUN and even a smaller 6,25m antenna. This especially for 10-12 &nd sometimes 15 meter bands. So far at 10 and 12 meters the vertical is performing very good but on lower bands the longwire wins over the vertical. The reason I'm looking at the DX Commander is that it's a multiband vetical resonant on severla bands including WARC bands.
I don't know if you implemented 30 meters. I heard from some hams this band can detune some other bands.
I sent you an email also with some questions. I will make a decission soon buying the Signature 9 or not.

@@PhilON4VP Good afternoon interesting comments, due to the heavy maintenance and the fact I just want a easy life, I opted for this model, it just works and is easy to repair/adjust , the 30m band will be replaced with a 19.? meter element for 80m. The idea is hopefully this is the last antenna I need to buy, good materials and works out the box 📦,,,73s from Rotterdam 🙏

Nice setup with such rooftop. I have noticed only strongs signals are captured. have you got the REF as default? I think is so low because it is not displayed at waterfall and have a S7-8 noise floor. Anyway... nice antenna!! GOOD JOB!!! Greetings from Spain, EA4GTF.

You will have to go by memory of course, but how would you compare this new vertical to your previous horizontal antenna, signal to noise ratio wise?
What is your waterfall span set to there?
