Also if it's black you're using in the magazine paper, you can still use the original image, just use your baby wipes on it and it will give it vintage look, still salvagable for collage
I JUST got a gelli plate after wanting one for a very long time! Thank you for walking me through my experiments! After a few tries, I made a great pull!! So very satisfying!
I love all of these pulls. Thanks so much for the tips on the types of magazine books and the amount of paint to use on the plate. I love how you add extra textures by using stamps on the different layers. The xray prints look neat, too using the lighter colors versus the darker ones with the image transfer. You make gelli printing look so easy. I am definitely taking notes from this and your other videos. Thanks so much for sharing.
New to gelli plate printing and love your videos. I particularly like it when you show what went wrong as mistakes are definitely how we learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Like how you share finer technical details for these techniques, giving more about paint viscosity and timing/dry level for optimal results. Great channel.
Devon I found this absolutely mesmerising. Thank you so much for sharing all you have learnt with us. You’re magazine images are amazing, I know that this has been achieved but loads of experimenting. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you, Devon! I don’t live in the States, but see that Golden Matt Medium seems to be a universal art supply also available in my neck of the woods. Learnt something new today thanks to you! 🧡
I'm sitting here in rainy Germany and I was thinking about trying out gel printing but I had so many questions. You answered them all. Plus you gave great tips to avoid beginners mistakes. Thanks a lot for your video!
Viewed a second time and took notes. I have all the materials I need and am ready to get to work.. Thanks again for sharing these techniques that I believe anyone can do. Very useful.
update update!! the newsprint transfer suggestion you gave me worked! since i didnt have magazines ... i tried it again and it worked !! i saw someones video where it was done although its faint its visable and as you said .... lay newspaper on plate and leave image... let it dry. and it works best to laydown a layer of color...over the newsprint image left on gel plate, then lift.... and the transfer is there....black newsprint image and background color (increases the visibility). thank you. !
Awesome!! Thanks so much for sharing this. I never knew you could do magazine image transfers on a Gelli plate. I just got mine, definitely will try this!
wow, I've heard of magazine image transfer but haven't seen it done till now. Amazing Dev! This was a very helpful and instructive tutorial. and so inspiring. Thank you! I wanna do it!
I am glad you found it helpful Marti and I hope you have fun trying it. It does take some practice so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work the first few times. Thanks for watching!
We used to do this in the 60s with a Hectograph. Very cheap to make: gelatin & glycerine. Recipe is online. Today’s artists have taken it to a new level. If the surface gets putted, stick in the oven to melt, and like finger jello, it hardens again.
I thought you had to use black paint for the transfer, so I really learned important basics from this tutorial. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to watch the sequels.
I am so glad you enjoyed it Kathy! Thanks so much for watching even though you already know how to do this process, I hope you found a tip that was helpful. 💜
Fantastic tutorial! I learned many more techniques from you and love the detail explanation of all the material used. Love to see one printing from laser photocopy as it is useful to do the transfer from my own photos. Thank you so much 😊 👍👌🙏🏼❤️🤩
Thank you Ankna! I am glad you enjoyed it. I don’t have a laser copier but I was thinking of bringing some photos to get laser copied and trying it in my next Gelli printing video. Thanks for watching! 😄
This video just came out from gelliarts about using laser copies for image transfers which I thought you might find helpful. ua-cam.com/video/odLuJsTbNNk/v-deo.html
Hi Dev, this video was amazing 👏💖💗. So, so helpful. I have always been intimidated to try images and could never quite understand the layers I need to go in until now. So we'll explained and a great resource for me to try this! Thanks so much...I m off now to steal magazines at the doctors office🤗🤗🤗
Thanks so much Gilly! I know it was a bit long but I really wanted to give as much detail as possible, I am glad you found it worthwhile.😄 btw you can also get some magazines from second hand shops ✌️
I just got my gelli plate yesterday…….jumped right in and it was a disaster! I haven’t got this technic down yet but I’m going to keep trying until I do! Thanks for all the helpful hints and tips.
Woohoo! Have fun with your gelliplate! I would probably recommend just playing around with layers first and then trying transfers once you have a feel for your gelliplate.
Your prints are so good! I espescially love the purple xray girl. She'd make a fantastic skelton girl. Might have to do one for my watercolor/junk journal. Thanks for the inspiration.
@@devonrex4 Thanks, still trying. Don't seem to have issues just using paints and different designs, but magazine images still take all of the paint up.

Someone doing videos on UA-cam said that if you mix your acrylic paint with a little bit of wallpaper paste, that it retards it drying fast. It's something to experiment with. I haven't used it yet, but I bought some wallpaper paste at Home Depot and I'm going to try it.
Interesting, let me know how it goes. There is also glazing mediums and acrylic retarders that extend drying time if you are interested. Also Golden “open” dry slower ( but I don’t own any Golden “open”). Have fun!
