This is exactly what I've been wanting in a truck. Just big enough to take off trash, pull small trailers or campers, transport furniture and still fit the whole family with great gas mileage.
After 16 months I finally picked up my Maverick. My first hybrid, incredible mpg and everyday versatility. Mine was 24K, XLT/360/hitch. Sold my '20 F150 for what I paid for it and bought the Maverick. Crazy used car prices
"This is the Truck MOST People NEED" - You are exactly correct. If a driver can get over big truck syndrome, (as long as he doesn't really haul heavy stuff or trailers), the Maverick is all that anyone needs.
Sold my '20 F150 XL , for my Maverick. Even though the F150 was a regular cab/short bed it was still overkill for my needs. Some people really need a full size pickup, most don't. Loving the Maverick
I really want to get one of these as an alternative to my 2500HD Diesel- I love the big 3/4 ton but living in the country it can get quite expensive on trips where I need to go travel 3 hours round trip for some bulky items.
@@TheeAbstractHero Getting one for a decent price may be your biggest hurtle. For me the hybrid made the most sense for the things I do. The worst mpg so far 38.5, averaging 42. Not a good choice for real truck duties but for running around and light stuff it works
My exact vehicle (including sunroof) except for colour. Got mine in July of last year (2022) after a year's wait, and love it -- everything I expected and more. Great ride and handling, city and highway, despite the torsion bar rear suspension rather than the independent suspension of the Ecoboost version. A surprisingly good road-tripper -- quiet and comfortable over long drives. Am getting much better mileage than you got -- averaging under 6.0 litres per 100 km in the summer, closer to 7 in colder weather. No complaints. Being able to tote 4x8 sheets of plywood without the need for tie-downs is a big advantage over your average SUV, at least for those of us who frequent Home Depot. My 2023 XLT hybrid has coil springs on the rear, not torsion bars. I was just under there installing the mud flaps. I would be surprised to see such a major change in design in one year of production.
I've been waiting for my Maverick for close to a year or better and have been bumped up to the 2024 - I'm buying it in the same color as your review. Going from a Civic to the Maverick. Thanks for the great review!!!
I finally got my VIN on the Maverick I ordered in Sept. My take is like what you mentioned about accessories. The way I look at it is that I am getting a CHEAP truck (I went XL Hybrid with non-towpackage hitch, full size spare and upgraded electronics). When I see someone with a Lariat package on the Maverick, while is looks beautiful, all I can think of is that someone got an expensive cheap truck.
Loaded Lariat at about $35k is still far less than the avg new car at over $48k. And about half the cost of most full size trucks. I have an XLT I show in my videos, but the Lariat's B&O sound, adaptive cruise, push start, wireless charger/car play, and heated items are worth it IMO.
You can find an older Ranger (or two!) on literally every street in my town - from the 80s, 90s, 2000s - basically every iteration. They're everywhere and they're beloved and kept pristine by their owners despite being daily drivers AND work trucks! My best friend just received on as a gift from a man who couldn't drive anymore. Both of my grandfathers had small trucks (Chevy s10 and Toyota pickup). It blows my mind that no manufacturers hopped on this wagon for so long for like 10 years, besides maybe the old Nissan Frontier. It seemed like Toyota and Chevy thought a base model access cab Tacoma/Colorado was good enough, but they were still bigger with average mpg. Maybe we will see an access cab Maverick with a 6ft bed, maybe not. Maybe Ford is afraid that people would buy that for $23-27k and not buy the work truck F150 for $40k lol!
I would buy a 6ft bed maverick with hybrid in an instant. The biggest thing that is keeping me off the maverick is the fact that you cant get awd with the hybrid
I owned two Ford Rangers ('91 and '05) and loved them. When the "new" Ranger came out I was very disappointed (too big, to me looks odd going down the road, etc). Then they announced the Maverick and I thought, "this is what the Ranger should have been to begin with". I still miss my '91 Ranger (4.5 with 5 speed) but so very excited about trying out the Maverick.
I have had an '83, two '90's, and currently a heavily rustproofed 2008 Ranger. I'm keeping the 2008 but I traded my full size 2019 F150 Lariat in on the 2023 XLT hybrid. I have also just ordered a Lariat hybrid Maverick now that they seem to be available in Canada. The Mav is the right size but the Ranger still has tons of life.
I bought one three days ago. I didn't order it. Didnt even bother trying, no chance. I just happened to be at the dealer first thing in the morning dropping my expedition off for new brakes. My sales guy wasn't there but i heard someone else say they had one available as of that morning. I jumped all over it. White AWD Lariat. I would have preffered a different color but i like it. had i been 30 minutes later or hadn't heard the guy mention maverick I never would have even known about it. I literally hit the jackpot.

I'm glad compact utility vehicles are coming back in the west. The market has gone without for too long. With the prices of full size trucks, it's impossible for a small business to afford to get a reliable truck

You can increase your highway mileage a little if you use ECO MODE and let off at the crest of a hill and coast a bit until your speed drops. Makes about 2 mpg difference. Use your mileage coach display option to visualize this. I can easily get 36 mpg at 70-75 for 100 mile trip.

Another great review! I suspect Ford is throttling Maverick production in favor of the F-Series, which is one reason why the Maverick (especially the Hybrid) is so hard to get.
The F series is built in a different plant. The real issue would be that Ford builds the Maverick and Bronco Sport in the same plant. Both are very popular vehicle. A typical auto assembly plant can produce between 300,000 - 350,000 vehicle a year.Maybe up to 375.000 without any problems.
@@johnbennett757 I didn't imply that the F-Series and Maverick are made in the same plant. The F-Series is far more profitable, so Ford would prefer selling more of them than low-margin Mavericks. The F-Series currently outsells the Maverick 10:1, and it doesn't help Ford to alter that balance very much.
All in all, Maverick Hybrid is a loss for the company and the reason why they offer it, is to lower the amount of emissions as whole the company produces. Even the non-hybrid is not a profitable business for Ford as they would rather sell you a Ranger than the Maverick as it has a higher price value, yet for the consumer its a small miracle.
They are actually going to be adding a third shift for production come July. I was reading they want push an extra 80,000 mavericks a year. It's an extremely popular truck. If they could build enough I'm sure it would be about the same volume as the F series. It's already selling much more than the Ranger. I have an xlt hybrid and love it. It does everything I would do with a full size. I have being moving a lot of furniture including full size couches. Even with a full size truck I would have to have the tail gate down to move a full size couch. Only reason to need a mid or full size is for extreme off roading or you need to tow something big. The maverick actually has more back seat room than most mid size trucks.
Ford really nailed it with the Ford Maverick. Very surprised there are really no competitor out there. Toyota gave up the compact trucks some years ago (hope they build a Maverick competitor). I am frustrated with the loss of the Honda Element in the market. I am one of those people that needs functionality in a vehicle but not willing to go to (or needing) a full-sized pickup or even a Tacoma sized one. Also, in these times those of us like me need high fuel economy. Really, how many need a full or mid-sized truck to go to the coffee shop. Not me. Actually, how many need a decked-out SUV to got to the coffee shop. A totally functional high fuel economy compact pickup or honda element type box-on-wheels vehicle. Hopefully all other vehicle manufacturers as recognizing what Ford has done.

Received mine 2 weeks ago. I see things on your XLT Lux that i didn't get on my USA Lariat Lux. Temp knobs don't have lcd readouts, my steering wheel feels like the Active-X.
Yes, the 2022 Mavs on my videos have the temp on the knob. Chip shortage or just cutting cost, I don't know. I also have leather wrapped steering wheels. Now I think it is called luxury vinyl. You could add your own leather cover later I suppose. Ask any questions.
Funny enough. There are entire communities printing parts for the cubby and back piece and have all sort of stls and selling printed items as "upgrades"
I'm confused, the Honda Ridgeline has been around since 2006 and the Maverick is basically the same style of truck (unibody) but everyone ignores the Ridgeline as if this truck market didn't exist till the Maverick came out.
Kyle, did you order? My video gives the reason the Lariat is the shortest line for not much more cost even though you get features like B&O sound and adaptive cruise.
@kylecalder8628 Got it. That will sound great! The std Mav speakers have a tiny magnet and are only rated at 25 watts. Hopefully you can change the weak amp for less than $1,000 and it will still work with the touchscreen.

Most people don't need a truck at all. If they did cars would be rare. If people need a truck for 4ft long cargo Maverick and Santa Cruz work. Such as flowers, bags of dirt, grass seed, 4 bales of straw, enough quickcrete for a small project, lumber that sticks 1/2 way out the back, very small machinery (lawn mower or minibike) Half that will fit in a car. Most would fit in a real station wagon. They don't make station wagons so you need a Maverick. However none are on lots, they're marked up $12000, so you might as well buy that Ranger they had on the lot for two months at $35000. Trucks last a long time. 250k to 500k and 20 to 30 years. Cars not so much. It is a good mini utility truck but it is really a car. Ford Car!
Sorry but no matter how "good" they claim it to be, having to wait years to get one will never be acceptable. The auto makers learned this back in the 60's when ordering cars was the rage. Since then a majority of consumers are far too impatient and car makers are losing a ton of cash, especially on the "compulsive buyers" of today's marketplace.
i ordered my XLT in 2023 in the middle of the few days the ordering banks were open. same color, with sunroof and rear window. - THATS MY TRUCK !! -lol. seriously is it available ?
I live in Montreal and awd has been in our house for long time. Would I miss my awd ? Hybrid with awd would be much more useful. Thanks for the in depth video
“Everyone needs” but very few can find, or order, or buy for MSRP. It’s difficult for me to understand what Einsteins at Ford corporate didn’t anticipate the demand for something like this.
How about this one, when I picked up my new Maverick I was charged a tire disposal fee. You were charged for the techs gloves and paper towels he disposed of. Get a second opinion from a performance alignment shop. Be well 🙏🏻
If only Toyota and Honda would come up a truck of this size, I would definitely consider it when I need a truck as an additional vehicle. I am not so sure about Ford's build quality and reliability, given my poor experience with a rental Escape and Explorer with faulty electronic AWD. Not to mention friend's F150 Ecoboost with countless quality problems.
I've had an XL hybrid for 15 months and have 19000 mi on it. I'm in Texas and do fairly well in winter with gas milage. Overall average is 40mpg. I ordered a 2023 XLT hybrid in Sept when order banks opened. They can take their time with it as I've already got one, and with more time will have more equity when I sell or trade it. I liked your video. Good quality and informative. And thanks for not mentioning bottle openers.
Yes electric lumbar for the driver with the luxury package upgrade. My videos show me driving 700 miles to Park City. The front seats are very supportive and comfortable. The lux pack has heated seats too which feels like heat therapy while you drive.
With the $2K price increase, reports of interior separating, the god awful entertainment center, cheap plastics on the inside, dealerships overcharging like crazy, and the reported engine issues… no thanks. I’ll gladly take my Santa Cruz with the better warranty, 1500 lbs more towing capacity, lockable trunk/cooler, and paying $2K under MSRP.
An ideal truck that I would go in a NY minute, but the scarcity of this model to order in a showroom, and waiting what may seem forever for it, is suck a turn off!!! A pity!!! 🙏♐
I put a down payment on a 2024 hybrid maverick, they're selling it to me for msrp. Gotta call around and do homework on ford dealers near you before purchasing one, also you should purchase one when the order bank opens as the dealers markup the ones that people decided not to buy rather than msrp for one ordered through ford as soon as the order bank opens
Sorry I didn’t see a question about brakes. No I would not have swapped tires. I used some footage from Ford as well as my own hence you might have seen multiple vehicles. Good eye though.
@@EverydayReviews2022 i asked about the brakes because apparently the hybrid brakes tend to lock up suddenly when you are slowing to a stop. this is a known issue and not sure if it's been fixed.
1:00 it used to be that the F-250 (and F-350) used the same basic bodyshell as the F-150 and just had beefed up suspensions, but these days the F-250 is massively larger than the F-150. When exactly did this start?
No 6' bed? No can do. The F150 has 3 different bed length options. The Ranger has 2 different bed length options. If you're gonna make people wait 12-18 months to "start" building their vehicle, atleast offer one for solo drivers with a small cab and a 6' bed. Make it happen Ford.
Ford needs to SELL DIRECT since greedy dealers are destroying the price point by once again marking them up to where people won’t buy them! Many competitors have new coming in this mkt.
Build quality on that vehicle is shameful, the undercarriage has rust before you even take delivery. Ford has really dropped the ball on quality how much money can you actually be saving by not painting metal parts? Look under a 10 year old ford and a 10 year old Honda and the difference will shock you.
I stood by Ford after the recession, but they have taken a huge dump on their customers. You can't find a Maverick anywhere close to MSRP and I hope Ford goes bankrupt because of their scummy "market adjustment" practices. Maybe Mazda (an honest car company) will get into the truck business.

I liked it. Thanks! 😊
Great review! Any idea where that 3D printed cubby insert came from?
Funny enough. There are entire communities printing parts for the cubby and back piece and have all sort of stls and selling printed items as "upgrades"
Ecoboost is the same price in 2023 as hybrid. No extra charge...
Also, 30 mpg for the Ecoboost is not painful, but a lot more fun...
Yes Gary! My turbo AWD on my videos in Park City is like a little rally truck.
I'm confused, the Honda Ridgeline has been around since 2006 and the Maverick is basically the same style of truck (unibody) but everyone ignores the Ridgeline as if this truck market didn't exist till the Maverick came out.
What a fantastic review!🎉
Once you add everything you want on this truck you start to wonder why you don't just buy the ranger at that point.
I'd still consider this a mid-size pickup truck for the most part. Smaller but not small
Yes, one of my videos compares the Mav size to my Grand Cherokee. After seeing the difference, it should be called the Grand Maverick.
Been watching all these Maverick reviews lately 😂😂 every single one is convincing me to buy one 😅
Kyle, did you order? My video gives the reason the Lariat is the shortest line for not much more cost even though you get features like B&O sound and adaptive cruise.
@@fordmaverickmaniac I'll be ordering the XLT. I'll just upgrade to JBL or kickers audio upon arriving 😁
@kylecalder8628 Got it. That will sound great! The std Mav speakers have a tiny magnet and are only rated at 25 watts. Hopefully you can change the weak amp for less than $1,000 and it will still work with the touchscreen.
I'm 5'8" and when I first took posession of my car It seemed a little far away from the pedals when I moved the seat close as I can. My wife hates the car as she can't move it closer to what I have set it too. She is 5'5" IS there something i need to know to make further adjustments to move it closer. WE have a 2023 Hybrid Mav.
Most people don't need a truck at all. If they did cars would be rare.
If people need a truck for 4ft long cargo Maverick and Santa Cruz work. Such as flowers, bags of dirt, grass seed, 4 bales of straw, enough quickcrete for a small project, lumber that sticks 1/2 way out the back, very small machinery (lawn mower or minibike)
Half that will fit in a car.
Ford Car!
Yes , but i can't get my ford dealer to talk to me about a Maverick and how long it will take to get it.
If only you could get the hybrid with awd
i ordered my XLT in 2023 in the middle of the few days the ordering banks were open. same color, with sunroof and rear window. - THATS MY TRUCK !! -lol. seriously is it available ?
With vehicles costing so much, even used, you kind of need to buy over what you need daily.
Any reason why the check engine light is flashing at you in some of the videos?
The problem I am seeing is Dealer Markups due to Demand are making it more expensive than a Ranger.
I live in Montreal and awd has been in our house for long time. Would I miss my awd ? Hybrid with awd would be much more useful. Thanks for the in depth video
If it came with standard shift option, i would get one
the Hybrid doesn't need it. or are you referring to a stick shift?
Boy would I love a stick shift compact pick up , again , like my Mazda b2000!
“Everyone needs” but very few can find, or order, or buy for MSRP.
It’s difficult for me to understand what Einsteins at Ford corporate didn’t anticipate the demand for something like this.
Still have your Ioniq5? How do you like it?
Yes and Absolutely love it!
Wish he would speak the numbers not so metrically for us in the states. Forgot my calculator.
How about this one, when I picked up my new Maverick I was charged a tire disposal fee. You were charged for the techs gloves and paper towels he disposed of. Get a second opinion from a performance alignment shop. Be well 🙏🏻
Good video! To the point, but very personable.
So...what did Benny think of it? 🤔
Fix the markups
I'm waiting on the 2024's. The Maverick AWD will be offered as a HYBRID.
!
Really?
Got price on 2024, Lariat starting 44k in Canada. Not sure if they come in AWD Hybrid though....big markup from 2023
how long did it take to get this? looking at ordering one, but not if its gonna be a year out
If only Toyota and Honda would come up a truck of this size, I would definitely consider it when I need a truck as an additional vehicle. I am not so sure about Ford's build quality and reliability, given my poor experience with a rental Escape and Explorer with faulty electronic AWD. Not to mention friend's F150 Ecoboost with countless quality problems.
Tom, if Toyota or Honda made a comparable small pickup, the price premium over this would likely be an issue
Toyota is rumored to have one coming next year. Toyota Stout ua-cam.com/video/-nPBmTUnXPI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Velocity
Toyota a nd Honda ram will not have a truck ever! Not at this price
@@frankkeel8410 agreed Frank, a base Civic in Canada starts at 29k!
How are the seats on long drives? Do they provide good lumbar support?
I didn’t find them uncomfortable however I did not take it on any super long drives.
@@EverydayReviews2022 Thanks. Is there lumbar support for the driver's seat?
Yes electric lumbar for the driver with the luxury package upgrade. My videos show me driving 700 miles to Park City. The front seats are very supportive and comfortable. The lux pack has heated seats too which feels like heat therapy while you drive.
If it was rwd I’d buy one. Front wheel drive in a truck just doesn’t seem right.
With the $2K price increase, reports of interior separating, the god awful entertainment center, cheap plastics on the inside, dealerships overcharging like crazy, and the reported engine issues… no thanks.
I’ll gladly take my Santa Cruz with the better warranty, 1500 lbs more towing capacity, lockable trunk/cooler, and paying $2K under MSRP.
our Ford dealership in PEI want $46000 for a used Maverick!
I'd rather hope and wait for a Subaru Baja if they ever do that
Did Ford fix the brakes? They have been having problems with the brakes suddenly grabbing as you slow to a stop.
That is not a big deal.
I’ve had my Maverick for 10 months now and I’ve never experienced problems with the brakes.
Who needs brakes!
@@nmnn422 It's only an issue on the hybrid. Is yours?
@@toronado455 I apologize, yes I have the Hybrid Maverick
why did you for the mpg in liters. ????? who undertstands thatt ?
What device makes your Phone wireless?
thanks
An ideal truck that I would go in a NY minute, but the scarcity of this model to order in a showroom, and waiting what may seem forever for it, is suck a turn off!!! A pity!!! 🙏♐
Typo: such not suck...sorry!
Problems its the truck no one can get. When was the last time you have seen one on your local ford lot?
I was able to buy 2 at msrp that I show in my videos.
Great idea. Too bad you can’t get one and even if you could, the dealer markups make it way overpriced.
got mine under sticker.
I put a down payment on a 2024 hybrid maverick, they're selling it to me for msrp. Gotta call around and do homework on ford dealers near you before purchasing one, also you should purchase one when the order bank opens as the dealers markup the ones that people decided not to buy rather than msrp for one ordered through ford as soon as the order bank opens
the back seats of the Maverick have more room than the ranger..
Now all they need is to give the hybrid AWD.
0 to 60 mph or 0 to 100 km??? Braking??? Let's get some stats that most reviewers give!
Looks like you switched out tires for Falkan Wildpeak A/Ts. Did mileage go down much? And why not answer question about brakes?
i doubt he swapped tires on a review truck
Sorry I didn’t see a question about brakes. No I would not have swapped tires. I used some footage from Ford as well as my own hence you might have seen multiple vehicles. Good eye though.
@@EverydayReviews2022 i asked about the brakes because apparently the hybrid brakes tend to lock up suddenly when you are slowing to a stop. this is a known issue and not sure if it's been fixed.
@@toronado455 I did not experience anything like that with the brakes.
@@EverydayReviews2022 good to know. maybe Ford has fixed the issue.
I know mavericks are junk but I still want one
Not junk, just no piano black interiors. I like the Mav so much I bought 2 that I show in my videos.
Ford won't be reliable as Honda. I don't recommend Ford. Toyota or Honda is the way to go.
You're not gonna suffer that much more at the pumps
1:00 it used to be that the F-250 (and F-350) used the same basic bodyshell as the F-150 and just had beefed up suspensions, but these days the F-250 is massively larger than the F-150. When exactly did this start?
The cabs are the same on the F150-F550 they may have a different interior packages.
The truck most people need, the truck many people want, and the the truck almost no one can buy because ford is incompetent.
Thats gotta be -4 C
You're the Ben better off with 2.3
No 6' bed?
This is such a cute little baby truck for babies! I couldn’t fucking believe how small it is when I saw one in person 😮
This is a car that is shaped like a truck. Not an actual truck.
Not a ‘23…it’s a ‘22.
Build quality on that vehicle is shameful, the undercarriage has rust before you even take delivery. Ford has really dropped the ball on quality how much money can you actually be saving by not painting metal parts? Look under a 10 year old ford and a 10 year old Honda and the difference will shock you.
I wish there was a work truck version with vinyl seats.
You could just put vinyl seat covers on it.
@@Snake-ms7sj I have considered going that route, but aftermarket covers don't last and they don't fit like factory covers.
@@toronado455 I hear you. Never used seat covers myself. These days also you have to consider if the seat covers will work with the airbags too.
another door SLAMMER...lol
I stood by Ford after the recession, but they have taken a huge dump on their customers. You can't find a Maverick anywhere close to MSRP and I hope Ford goes bankrupt because of their scummy "market adjustment" practices. Maybe Mazda (an honest car company) will get into the truck business.
I got 2 Mavericks I show on my channel at msrp.
37 bags at 40 pounds each is 1,480 pounds. Leaving 20 pounds for the driver.
Wow own truck a week and make a review joke
Kind of a bland review. Seems you are repeating what others have already said. Please provide some unique/original content. Or just provide links to other pertinent reviews.
