    I thought I had a bad altinator so I replace it and went for a test drive my 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2l v8 shut off while driving it did it in the past thought it was the altinator and it wasn't, when my truck died on the road I got a no bus light like in ur video I was stuck on the side of the road then I saw ur video and I wiggled the connector and I made it home thanks to your video thank you!

      weldon boyles from wiggling connector first guy took it to dealer for top notch diagnosis and they told him connector was damaged could use a reprogram ... long story short; it left from dealer on a trailer motor hydrolocked from cracks in heads new ecm and new autozone ecm it still drives today

    My 1999 XJ experienced the no bus problem, my first experience occurred in Fla. at Orlando Airport had it towed to Ocala Fl. (90 miles away) cost me $5.00/mile and 2 ecm's an additional $1200.00. I cleaned all sensors, all grounds and even the the dash connectors and ecm's connections. The jeep still stalls, so far about 30 times. My temporary fix, I go to the ecm's I jiggle the 3 connectors and tap on the ecm's it worked everytime

    My 2000 Dakota sport started right up after I tapped it a couple times. Leaving the key on while I tapped it I could hear it reset under the hood. Hope that's helpful for someone. Good luck out there -

    Been down this road it’s the computer save yourself the time

    A common problem that causes the no-bus is the computer - ecm cables/connection. When mine shuts off or won't start all I have to do is press in on the wiring harness at the ecm and it comes back to life. I was told the cable pulling on the ecm messes up the connector on the ecm itself.

      My friend was convinced of the same thing he would barely move the connector and relays would click and truck would start in the end, it was that moving the connector would pull power from computer so that it would reset, after a new connector was put on the problem was worse he would have a socket or tie wraps trying to make it better ONLY new ecm fixed it

    • @brettswindell
      @brettswindell 6 років тому +3

      That's what I said - the problem is where the connector is soldered to the circuit board inside the ECM - that's why you have to either buy or have yours repaired. When the computer repair guy fixes your ECM, he removes and then resolders the 3 connectors on the board. If you know enough about electronics you can take your ECM apart and do it yourself.

      Brett Swindell right I'm sure if I wanted to I could fix but with a shop I have to guarantee work, w AutoZone they cover labor if u have comeback due to their part, as a side note I worked at Motorola and Solectron and right there where the lady's would repair ecms they have really nice solder irons specific solder for jobs solder removers and a magnifying glass the size of a dinner plate, then they would fill and seal ecms and send into a heat oven all that is to guarantee their work I don't have any of that

      I think if power was being pulled from ecm the dash would be dead if it says no bus is because ecm has power but no 12v on bus circuit , I think

    • @brettswindell
      @brettswindell 6 років тому

      That's my understanding. There is power to the system from the battery but the ecm is not communicating. If the ecm was just locking up you could unplug the battery for a few seconds and reset the module. I hear ya about fixing them. I sent mine off to FL.

    Hi, thanks for your video. I have a question about a 1997 dakota V-6 2 wheel drive ,Would the "No bu5 " show on the odometer its not like yours, its black numbers with silver background? Thanks for your help

      Les Goss i would bet the no bus is no communication between computers and dash

      toweringhouse boy was the ecm programmed to the vin, I think ecm and bcm need to have been programmed to read same vin try your old one maybe it will start

    • @taaneezhaniiboy3659
      @taaneezhaniiboy3659 7 років тому

      No the ecm was not programmed to the vin...would I have to take it to a dealership to have it programmed...I don't have my old ecm

      toweringhouse boy also have to make sure the crank sprocket has same amount of teeth I think 2 types 16 and 32 teeth, i thought about it more maybe watch live data it should show that crank and cam agree
      maybe it's not picking up crank signal

    I have a 01 Cummins and my says no bus it's because it's a circular chip that gives it life I lost it where do I find that chip if you need a pic please send me your number so I can send it

      @Karnescitytx  6 років тому

      Charles Williams is that chip is in dash? The prob I have encountered is that ecm stops putting out the 5v reference

    Noticed his fuel gage moved. At the beginning of the video it was empty. After he tapped the PCM it moved to almost half a tank.
    I'm having the same issue on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2. At first I thought it was a fuel issue. However after plugging a OBD2 scanner I quickly realized it was something else. Thankfully my truck died at an auto parts store and they allowed me to use an OBD2 scanner. When they plugged the scanner it was not able to connect to the computer. I'm going to buy an OBD2 scanner to properly assist the issue. I think it may be a sensor. Any suggestions guys?

      Tony when the 5v would drop out I couldn't scan the vehicle

    • @tony7132901
      @tony7132901 7 років тому

      Yup that it exactly what happened to me. The guys at the auto parts store couldn't connect the OBD2 scanner to the computer. Would y'all happened to know of any reason why? What would be the best approach to diagnose / fix the issue?

    • @Karnescitytx
      @Karnescitytx  7 років тому +1

      Tony u may have short on 5v circuit(not likely but possible) and computer is going into safe mode but more likely that computer is bad, another ram I worked on did the same identical thing, both with new computers have never returned for shutting off

    • @Karnescitytx
      @Karnescitytx  7 років тому +2

      Tony the first truck, the guy would wiggle the ecm connector and was convinced it was bad connector but it was that wiggling the wires would disconnect ecm long enough for ecm to reset, the point of video was that IF NOTHING ELSE IS TOUCHED WIGGLED OR MANIPULATED AND tapping computer makes it come on its bad computer hope that helps

    • @tony7132901
      @tony7132901 7 років тому

      kc pitstop yeah I haven't had time to properly diagnose the issue but that gives me a starting point. Thank you sir.
