I think he taught Frieren more of what it means to be human and how to deal with humans being human. That ADORABLE part at the end where Frieren takes care of Fern... wowww... so cute. When Sein was talking with Stark about the argument and Frieren pops her head in, Sein said that she won't always be there to help mediate. It was at that moment that she knew he was leaving and they both had an awkward goodbye in the tavern between 2 geniuses.
