S korea looks really nice and I’m loving this new camera footage too, such crisp views.
Surprisingly expensive for the SIM cards though, audio only then next time we FaceTime lol!
LOL.. I only have it to chat with my buddy Rick. 🤣
비싼게 아니고 빠르죠.
The best way to get free internet is to buy 2 dollars of coffee and access to wifi. All the local coffee shops offer good Wi-Fi 👍
You can do live streaming in a coffee shop.
So True.. ;o)
👍🙏Thanx for the walk,grateful sharing🌻
Thank you too :o)
as an aussie who goes to korea often, australia has it reaaaaaaly good when it comes to phone plans, be it the value or the convenience of signing up.
on the other hand, it was more expensive since you guys were tourists without korean ids.
Thanks mate but that is comparing at one end of the scales. Yes we have "OK plans" but it's not as easy as it should be in Australia either.
I have sims from dozens of countries and most of them are under AUD5 a month for screaming fast internet and you just pick up in a store..
I accept Australia is way easier but not "reaaaaly" a great example of an easy place to get cheap sims, you have to remember that you are buying a Sim as a resident of Australia and that makes a huge difference. I'm sure Koreans have zero problems picking up a sim in Korea but it's not cheap for a tourist to buy a sim in Australia, nor is it straight forward..
For example in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico even, I can pick a sim up for around 5 bucks and have unlimited working 5g in my phone in 5 minutes.. That's how it should be..
@@Steve-Owens Hmm idk. Haven't been to those countries so can't compare but I know for sure Korean plans are much worse off than Australian ones, whether it's for residents or tourists. i.e. Quick googling shows best value sim for Aussie tourists currently is a 12GB $10 sim. When I visit Korea, the best I can find is something like $30-40 for 1GB. My friend is a Korean resident and I know what they get as well and it's nowhere near what we get in Australia. I'm using a 40GB esim for $10 right now. That's pretty damn good imo.
Your best bet is to get a pocket WiFi at the Incheon Airport. It's about 2 US dollars a day for unlimited data at LTE speed.
60 bucks a month seems expensive? I paid 20K for almost unlimited a month
Lovely to hear OZ accent again
Hi Steve! Were you able to make international calls and texts with this sim card?
I think almost every convenience stores in Korea that many tourists visit sell prepaid SIM cards with reasonable price...
Not so..
@@Steve-Owens Oh, bummer..
@@juyeonglee1605 🤣
I don't think so..
Wi-Fi in Seoul is free on city buses, free in public places, and free at bus stops... I think you didn't know that.
Great info.. Thank you..
That only works if you have a Korean phone plan. Tried it without one and didn't work.
What public phone app?
Hi when order sim do you need to register your phone IMEI number before traveling to Korea?
I don't know.. I didn't.
As a person living in the state using verizon paying 80 dollars for an unlimited plan, I am just crying over here.
Sad.. Internet should be close to free.. My sim here was limited and I can't renew it..
Could someone confirm the direction? I think I Understood "EWA Women's University Metro Station" Shop is "KT Shop" what direction? Anyone has the name of the street? I found in Google maps and the KT Shop it's not there any more. Don't know if the other 2KT shops in this area will have this offer still
I live in Thailand and pay less than 200 baht monthly for an unlimited data plan I bung a hundred or so on for calls. That's about US$6. I'm planning a 12-day trip to Korea and will pay 8x my monthly fare for less than two weeks. Astonishing. I visited Taiwan in April and it was less than half Korea's price.
Thailand is great value..
Hello, do you have any informations about the upload speed of the SIM Cards in South Korea ? I don't really care about the price, the unlimited data from LG U+ etc... Seems good but i dont know about the uplaod speed
Sorry, I never did get on top of Korean Sims, but the local wifi is fast on the up..
nice!
Thanks!
Did you manage to find anything else apart from this? I will be in Korea next month, do you think, this is the best option I can choose? The prices at the airport seems to be expensive.
It's not a great place for a tourist Sim Sadly, this is the best at the time..
Okay, Thank you for this. This video was super helpful for me. Also, did you use this sim outside of Seoul, maybe in Jeju or Gyeongju area? Did you face any network or data related issues in the remote part of South Korea@@Steve-Owens
@@rinkygoyal8265 I think by the time I got to Jeju the sim ran out but there was loads of free internet to use on the Island..
These prices seem to be comparable to Germanys where you'll pay a penalty for using prepaid options either in pricing or in limited data. The thinking by telecomunication companies is probably that people who are willing to bind themselves contractually for several years get the better pricing and data amount. If you're a resident here you'll probably use a 2-year-contract plan for about 22 US-Dollars per month for unlimited minutes and unlimited data which is obviously more value for the money. 1-month-unlimited prepaid options are rare but being offered for about 100 US-Dollars. Again probably to penalize monthly prepaid users and trying to push them into contract plans. Protecting their broadband internet plans people get additionally for homes might also be a reason to make prepaid options unattractive as an alternative. Not ideal pricing for tourists if UNLIMITED data is what you need, but also nothing unusual. Again, at least here in Germany.
Sadly the developed world see phone plans as a way of digging deep into the pockets of every family. Franky they are over priced. In many countries away from the "west" you can get unlimited and very fast 5g for under 5 dollars a month.. With multiple family members using sims, this is as it should be..
Aloha~ when i was in korea 2019 i couldn't use my current cell/internet wifi service for $$$$$ i bought temp wifi sim card but only for internet access no send/received cell phone calls But i guess i could've for $$$$$ lol...i wish there was plan we can purchase for unlimited wifi n maybe cell phone mins send/received calls...ton of Very Convenient Stores 24/7 like every block of streets tho...why cant we recharge/purchase cell phone use mins there...idk anyhow thanks for the walking tour Mahalo👍🤙👊
The phone services here are sadly way behind the rest of the region.. Cheers..
i use the kt u+ basic plan for 20000 won per month and was really good super fast and any problem so i think the price is really cheap and grat for tourist
Is that a current plan that I could look at.. ?
What is the speed, and if you're only visiting for one month, is it still available?
The speed is quite good even if you stay for more than a month I used it without any problem and it was fast you don't need to spend more
@@chrislopez7957 😂the question is not about staying over one month. The deals are better if you stay longer than a month.
Yes if u do it on the store directly I take last time 3 months for 50 usd
I found the LG U+ to provide a good option for foreigners (non-Korean passport holders). LG U+ has an English page where you can find the nearest U+ shop, and they offer an on-line reservation discount. Please google it as youtube won't let me post a link.
What sort of monthly prices do you get?
@@Steve-Owens KRW 65,000 for 30 days (with on-line reservation discount). This is for unlimited data, but data-only (no outgoing voice calls). If you need voice calls, then tack on 16,500 / hour. I would simply use viber or skype type of SMS service to make phone calls, unles you absolutely need a Korean phone number.
Hi Steve. Wow. This Marathon....... You did buy the 20'000. Was it ok ? I am always a bit in youtube. How was you r use and experience with this sim card ?
An other user wrote that Chingu Mobile is a good option too.
A very important topic. Thank a lot. The couple of Colombia.
It was fine for a month but it was close to impossible to top up and really badly supported..
We just arrived yesterday in Seoul. Wow. 12 hours direct flight from LA…….
As somebody mentioned in his comment. We ordered the Change Mobile card per internet. Payed 22’000. Got it easy at the airport terminal. Best what we have done so far.
Yeap. To get money out of the ATM was a hassle. But at the end it worked. Because we do stay to month we took 1’000 USD. So therefore we do not have to look always around for an ATM.
Cheers Silvio
Chingu Mobile card I do recomend
Better do the roaming services as I do when traveling to Australia
But so, so much more expensive if you travel all year..
What..??? In Seoul...Internet Problem...?? Have you ever checked public Wi-Fi...??
Sketchy at best..
It was difficult to connect to the public wifi even it’s everywhere!! Why don’t you give tips how to connect and have internet?
There is a free wifi on every bus . ButU need to find out the wifi and agree on something very simple.
And no korean buy sim fard here in korea only probably tourist maybw that s why it is expensive.
Ane every those big mart like emart lottemart has free wifi as well.
Yes, it's odd though how difficult it is here to get a reasonably priced sim as a tourist, Koreans will not find this if they travel.
So Steve, how well did the 20,000 Won card perform? Did it work well enough for general navigation and basic internet searches / booking hotels / Airbnb etc ?
It was good for that, yes..
20k KRW is about 20 aussie dollars. expensive? well...
23.. Yes, it is.. expensive for limited data, my previous 5 countries have been under 5 dollars, 5g unlimited. and this 23 Dollar plan is hard to find.. the next closest is 70 dollars.. So yes..
@@onkelultrabreit it's limited.
Wow, that's expensive.
Yes, it gets more costly in this part of the world..
You’re brave talking on public transportation but don’t do it again 😂 apparently they don’t do that there. At least not much. I’m visiting right now actually. It’s currently early morning time and I can’t sleep. Lol my today is my first full day
It's not so taboo here. We found it more strict in Fukuoka here many people talk on the buses.
I bought an unlimited data sim card at the airport for 10 days for just 21 GBP....
That's a rip off but hey.
@@Steve-Owens well, of course not
Korean gdp is 30k+ so things are going to cost about the same other 1st world countries.. sometimes more
Often more. but I do see Korea as a 1st world country.. Do you think?
no doubt.
