    Love NoBrand. Those smaller HomePlus Express and Lotte Express marts also have some good markdowns on veg and fruit if you go at night when they bundle and reduce the soon to expire stuff. The expiration date isnt a detonator tho. You can still get a day or two or more out of most things. And you can portion and freeze meat to get the most out of it. ✌

    When you wanna cut loose y’all bring cash with you to bars! I think I got a 5,000 won discount or something for paying for my drinks in cash 👍.
    Also for TMoney cards (transportation: taxis, subways, buses)…this is gonna sound so dumb but when you buy your card, that’s your card for your whole trip! (So also choose a cute/cool one lol) I thought it was like a hey you bought it and you put 20,000 won on it so when that’s all used up you gotta buy another. It was my third card that I realized, man am I dense. …Just bring your card to the convenience store and they’ll recharge it for you if you’re running low. Card to buy the TMoney card and then cash to charge the card. Also make sure whatever buses you’re hopping into aren’t the expensive ones! I think the blue line buses were more expensive than the green line ones (kakaomap will tell you which bus costs more or not)👍.

    Not all ATM's will accept foreign debit cards. That includes some international banks like Standard Chartered. Look for a sign that says "Global ATM" if you're trying to get cash. KEB Hanna seem to have those. Additionally, if you don't have a bank account in Korea, you must likely won't be able to buy online as most sites (including Samsung or other major sites!) will only accept Korean bank/credit cards.

    I'd like to thank you for all the tips immensely. Seoul/Ilsan--Apr 11--20 Jeju--Apr 20--24 Busan--Apr 24--28 Daegu--Apr 28--May 7. is our itinerary and I can't wait to meet new people and have more appreciation for the people that live here. So many nice people I didn't expect! But Seoul seems like the city of tourism. Still! I was not expecting it. I learned things from this video I never would have known otherwise! If I run into you I'll make sure to say hi!!

    Hi Megan! Thank you for your suggestions. It is very helpful. Do you have any recommendations to do with kids in Korea? We are traveling with kids ages 13, 10, and 19 months.

    Great tips! I would just add that a solution to food waste to flush it down the toilet. Then you don't have to buy bags at all! Just make sure to chop the food waste up real small.

    Hi! So when you say exchange some of the money at the Incheon airport when I arrive. What's the recommended amount of USD to exchange at the airport. Because after I arrive, I have dinner, and go straight to my hotel. Please advise. Thank you kindly. 🙂

    I have a question. Would you recommend the Wise multi currency debit card? My school and a few people have said it's worthwhile. Have you got any experience with it?

    I'm in the UK and I have a Halifax Clarity card which has no fees and an HSBC Global card for withdrawing cash. The latter has to be loaded first but that's not difficult using my banking app.

    could you maybe make a guide on how to separate waste? In my country it's so different so I am really confused, specifically with things like PET or napkins that have a bit of food residue 😢

    Please make a video on how to use Korean won money. The hardest part is when they only tell you how much it is, but you don’t have a screen to see the actual total cost. Any recommendations would be helpful, thank you.

    FYI: If you have the Citibank Costco Credit Card, there is no foreign transaction fee, either use your credit card or cash, plus you get points using your credit card and you can dispute it if something went wrong. S. Korea has Costco locations and you can use your membership card. Bring the cash you know you are going to need, only do exchange from USD to Korean won in the black market.

    I just opened a bank account at the bank at my school and kind of confused by the rules, etc. Can you do a video on the banking here? Like, I think they said if I withdraw 1M won I had to give them a reason for my withdrawal in writing. And is there a difference in opening the bank account under your passport versus after you get your ARC?

    Is discover (the credit card) widely accepted throughout South Korea? Will most banks give a good exchange rate or what should I look for?

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  2 роки тому

      Credit cards can have worse transaction fees but I didn't want to speak on them just yet for legal reasons. I don't know many people with Discover cards abroad - usually they will apply for credit cards that are meant for travel (I use the Capitol One Venture card link in my bio) but I am in no way a financial advisor so I would recommend speaking with one/your banks about international fees and recommendations!
