Vending machines is one of the reasons why I love Japan. It's just so convenient and cool to get almost anything you'd want. I imagine with Japan getting so hot in the summer being able to get a drink almost anywhere without much fuss is very important.

It's refreshing to see they don't get vandalised in Western countries I think these vending machines would suffer graffiti or vandalism. Could not see NZ getting them because of these reasons.
Agreed. These machines are safe in Japan due to the respectful culture of the country. I live in the UK, and if these machines were on street corners here they would be smashed up and robbed instantly.

In fact, we do have quite a lot of vending machines plastered all over the country but we lack in variety of products compared to what Japan has to offer. Mostly dominated by 1 or 2 big brands like Coca-cola.

When I visit Japan I think my curiosity won't be satisfied unless I get a pile of coins and sample every item from a vending machine, they all look so appetising.
One thing I really admire is even though vending machines are everywhere, people don't litter the plastic bottles, everything is clean and tidy. Reminds me of Germany where everyone is responsible and takes their trash home with them.

My favorite drink from the vending machines in Japan was a warm orange juice/drink @ the Golden Pavilion. I didn’t pay attention to the Red (hot) label but it was a pleasant surprise even though it was a hot day in October. Actually you can by so many surprising items in vending machines in Japan. The culture shock was real but fun. Your videos are helping me prepare for my next visit early next year where I won't feel so lost. Vending machines and food were my main points of confusion. Tokyo subway ranks up there also. I have to say visiting Japan got under my skin so much that on arriving home in Melbourne (Australia) I knew I had to return. I am obsessed!

If you guys come over to Shin-imamiya, Nishinari "Airinchiku" in Osaka, you will find incredibly cheap drinks (not expired but the expiration date is super close to the date they sell the drink). That Mets Cola you showed in the first machine looks like one I have to try. I have a soda podcast that my son and I do periodically. An Asian market near my house has a different brand of the melon soda, and I've tried that. I liked it more than I thought I would. Great video, guys.

Even with the drink machines alone, there is so much more variety and thought put into the machines than we have here in the United States. Vending machines here are not as common as they were, but if you find one, it probably only sells soda and perhaps bottled water. It would be such fun to try these drinks. That is one of the many things i love about Japan, you guys can have all these vending machines and yet there is barely no littering in the streets. Here in Norway it would been a total mess! When that said, i would have a huge problem choosing what to buy out of these vending machines so i probably would end up buying it all lol!
It’s interesting that drink vending machines are cheap in Japan. Here in the UK, you can find vending machines in railway stations, hospitals, and other public spaces but they are always priced more expensive than an ordinary shop.
I miss the vending machines in Japan so much. Thank you for translating, this will be so useful next time I visit. Usually I don't drink enough water, but in Japan it was so easy to stay hydrated because the vending machines made it so easy and fun!

There’s several restaurants and stores that sell food, snacks, candy, ice cream and more from Japan, and there’s also Daiso near my moms home. I bring back home snacks and tasty candies and a bag full of Daiso merchandise! But I really hope someday to visit Japan (not during the Summer, I heard it’s too hot and too humid)... but I just know Japan is a beautiful country! Thank you for sharing... I love these vending machine tours, especially if it is ones you visit often. I was surprised that a couple of the bottle teas are on my shelf right now. Who knew here in Virginia, we would have even the same labels. The price is alittle different, our price was 1.75 per bottle, not 100 yen. So, thanks for making a rainy evening even more relaxing.

My family traveled to Japan last summer, vending machines are the best parts for my sons. Calpis soda was their fav drinks. We also found a kind of Calpis with jelly inside. My husband and I enjoyed all kinds of green tea and barley tea. After we came back to the US, we found the Korean markets sell Calpis and green tea too. Of course, the price is doubled.
I'm loving watching all of your videos, but it's making me miss Japan so much!! Everything is so cheap compared to Australia. I especially miss being able to buy a hot drink in a vending machine or convenience store.
When to Japan during the winter and tried "Hot Ginger Lemon" from Aquarius and it was the most delicious drinks I've ever had. Especially after a long day of walking out in the cold.
Here in Okinawa we definitely don't have a 100 yen vending machine or lower or at least I've not seen them. We have different drinks and or different brands but we do have Aquarius, Pocari, Calpis, Melon soda, and juice, I don't drink tea or coffee but I think we have SOME of the same brands here. We also have Shikuwasa flavored seltzer water in my vending machine that I've not seen any where else, not even in the stores. Thanks for sharing this was helpful.

I always stop at each machine I pass just to see if there are any new drinks available. I like Sangaria drinks because they always have strange flavors like Nata de Coco which I like,
Toothsome Discoveries if we had those here, someone would be vandalizing them or breaking in to get the cash. Our apartment manager showed me a video of some idiot breaking into our laundry room to steal cash from the washers and dryers. He didn’t get anything because you have to have a prepaid card to use the machines.

Fun! What a great video boys!! Ito En Oi Cha is the only tea that I’ll buy at my local Japanese market. Love it! The Nadaman tea looked so refreshing and I love that it contained tea leaves inside the bottle! I have so many fond memories of little glass bottles of Yalkut being delivered to my obasan’s house in Ofuna, when I was a child. I also have fond memories of having large bottles of Calpis concentrate at our house, while growing up. Us kids loved it so much! Thank you for sharing your amazing neighborhood vending machines. Usually the owners of the vending machines are people who either live there or have a business there. The vending machine next to my apartment is owned by the apartment next door.
I LOVE this video so much! I lived in Japan for a few years but still I couldn’t appreciate things like the nadaman ocha because I didn’t realize the difference and why it’s special. But yess buying drinks from jidōhanbaiki is so fun!!

Allthough i understood that kirin is the brand of the drinks it was totally funny for me to see it written all over the glass, because in turkish kirin means break it. So they are literally inviting the people to break the glass and just steal their drinks 😂😂😂
One thing that's different is that Yakult in the EU no longer claims to be "generally be benficient for your health" since the EU Health Claim Directive required Manufacturers to only make Health Claims on their packaging when they were actually, demonstrably true and held up to scientific testing. Yakult apprently did not. But I got that fact from the Internet, so who knows :D

Years ago I found this product in a vending machine in front of Urayasu-Station, Chiba Prefecture. I thought it was delicious but I could not find it in Tokyo for years. Finally this product was offered in vending machines in Tokyo and I could buy it hot in winter and cold in summer. Ahhhh...
Acerola is often called acerola cherry or Barbados cherry. It's a rich source of vitamin c, used in a lot of vitamin c pills. Also, the second black fire coffee from the first vending machine comes in a resealable bottle, for people who don't want to drink it all in one place.
I had the peach and orange teas from the last batch of vending machines last year. They were both good tasting. There was also an apple tea that I had as well that was good too.

Yes, it is clean in spite of having so many vending machines all over the place. But you know what is even more amazing? There are no public trash cans either!

Love vending machines you can almost find everything or something in vending machines from food,drinks,snacks,toys to the usual things lots of amazing stuff in Japan worth trying to get something from the machine

I love this video and subscribed. I moved to Japan 6 years ago from America and I loooooove all the drink machines in Japan. I always stop at each machine I pass just to see if there are any new drinks available. I like Sangaria drinks because they always have strange flavors like Nata de Coco which I like,

Toothsome Discoveries if we had those here, someone would be vandalizing them or breaking in to get the cash. Our apartment manager showed me a video of some idiot breaking into our laundry room to steal cash from the washers and dryers. He didn’t get anything because you have to have a prepaid card to use the machines.

Funny how the first thing in the first vending machine is one of the best bottled teas I've tasted... I couldn't get enough of it.

Fun! What a great video boys!! Ito En Oi Cha is the only tea that I’ll buy at my local Japanese market. Love it! The Nadaman tea looked so refreshing and I love that it contained tea leaves inside the bottle! I have so many fond memories of little glass bottles of Yalkut being delivered to my obasan’s house in Ofuna, when I was a child. I also have fond memories of having large bottles of Calpis concentrate at our house, while growing up. Us kids loved it so much! Thank you for sharing your amazing neighborhood vending machines. Just out of curiosity, who owns the machines?
Usually the owners of the vending machines are people who either live there or have a business there. The vending machine next to my apartment is owned by the apartment next door.

Allthough i understood that kirin is the brand of the drinks it was totally funny for me to see it written all over the glass, because in turkish kirin means break it. So they are literally inviting the people to break the glass and just steal their drinks 😂😂😂

In Germany we have Yakult, too. It's pretty popular I think.
US does as well
One thing that's different is that Yakult in the EU no longer claims to be "generally be benficient for your health" since the EU Health Claim Directive required Manufacturers to only make Health Claims on their packaging when they were actually, demonstrably true and held up to scientific testing. Yakult apprently did not. But I got that fact from the Internet, so who knows :D

I thought it was delicious but I could not find it in Tokyo for years. Finally this product was offered in vending machines in Tokyo and I could buy it hot in winter and cold in summer. Ahhhh...

Acerola is often called acerola cherry or Barbados cherry. It's a rich source of vitamin c, used in a lot of vitamin c pills. Also, the second black fire coffee from the first vending machine comes in a resealable bottle, for people who don't want to drink it all in one place.
I had the peach and orange teas from the last batch of vending machines last year. They were both good tasting. There was also an apple tea that I had as well that was good too.
