- Extension cords and air hoses have a way of hanging around the shop where they really don't belong. Today we make forged wall hook just for hanging up your cords or hoses.

Great addition to the old HOTW series, if that was still going. Nice hose/cord hook/hanger.
Well done.
Nice John, but the effort to make the storage hook is why we have the problem. LOL.
Have watch a number of your hook of the week videos, great series IMHO. Really like how this hook turned out. Thanks for the demonstration.
Glad you like them!
Watched this vid when it came out in May of 18. Just rewatched Feb 2020 nice refresher see things I missed
Fantastic project! How about a little pirate chest. That would be a nice gift for the wife. I'd like to something like see that made.
That would be fun
John, what an awesome idea for the shop, garage or storage shed!! This could be a really big money maker for a new blacksmith at a trade show.
I may have to make some more just for the Etsy shop
What a fun project can't wait to go through the steel pile and try something just like that
Fantastic!
You kept my attention ! Great project , again ! I agree with you
About the one piece construction ! Another great one . Keep Hammering !
Very good job thank you John I thought it was great
If I had watched this two weeks ago I would have used it as one of my class projects at JCC folk school.
I'm making this today. It's going to be my first attempt at forging something.
Nice piece John. Thanks for the video
"If your shop is anything like my shop".... HA one can dream ;) I have a few patio slabs out in the open for my forge and anvil with a very crowded picnic table for my 2 hammers and 1 pair of terrible tongs :) Right at the start of the journey. I only bought a normal claw hammer two weeks ago for DIY.
We all start with a brainstorm then apply elbow grease.
John Switzer please tell me where to get a fair buy on them forage gloves and before my welding gloves melt.
Thanks for your teachings.
I really enjoy watching your videos thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Really nice project. This is defiantly a marketable product.
Looks wonderful. My wife thinks the ones at the garden shop are ugly, but I'm sure she'd like that one. I've actually thought about doing the same thing lol. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks I can make almost everything for the home, towel hangars, bathroom paper and paper towel holder, all manner of hooks and hangars for clothes and plants, even down to forged clothes hangars. Thanks again for the lessons. And all the extra info about what your doing and why you do it helps improve the skills with more success and less failures.
You are welcome
Looks like cord management for the shop is in my future. Great video, thanks!
Great idea, sharp corners hooks are sometimes inapropriate, even for clothes. Sooo, good idea ! Thank you John
Great Project. Happy to see my sticker on the cabinet in the background!
Good Idea ! Good Work !
I wish my wife would leave me alone long enough to get some shop time. I'm missing my forge...
I didn't think that while watching, but I did think it when I saw the picture on Instagram.
added this video into my saved "stuff to make" folder! It's definitely on my "gunna" list. All my leads are currently hanging on large rebar S hooks from the top rail in my shed.
Great hook. I'm definitely going to be forging at least one of these for my shop. Thank you!
Awesome
That came out great!
Great idea I like it
Like it John
Very handy hook, useful for lots of things. definately on the too make list.
practical and pretty piece
Gave me an idea. I'll post the result on the FB users page in a day or so. Thanks!
I'll look forward to it.
first, I'm hooked.
Thank you
good work:)
Realy good video. I will need to make several of these. Nice gift too. Thanks john😁
Glad you liked it
Loved this! I hope to make one for myself soon. You do wonderful work.
Thanks
Nice hook.
Thanks
Good little projects tend to become handy items. Good tips base on exp. (which side to hammer, front or back). Splitting the ram's horn is classic best done via blacksmithing …. try cutting the horns with a wandering saw blade. Thanks for the video.
Splitting does tend to look best. But I am sure we have all tried cutting thinking it was easier.
Belt grinder belts! With the middle part 2½" long for 2" belts. I really need one (or 5....). When I do cuts with corners like that I like to drill into the corners just to have a little radius there, rather than a crisp corner. Just my preference, but I feel better about stress points that way. Totally unnecessary for material that thick holding stuff as light as those hoses and cords though.
Great idea
👍👍👍👍
I don't know what you changed, but today's light at the layout table looks just like The Woodwright's Shop.
As far as I know just that its later in the day. But since i set up the light manually every time they may not be in the same place or at the same angle.
Nice job John, what are the nails/screws you used to mount it to the wall? they look quite decorative and match the hook nicely.
Is there a particular name for those huge files that i see smiths using.. the only ones i can manage to find are about 1 inch wide, maybe a little more but those look huge.
The one you saw in this video is just a 14" half round bastard file. You won't find them at the local hardware store, but any industrial supplier should have them or even ebay. For most hot rasping I use an old farriers rasp.
Awesome video and project John! Did you make the mounting hardware (nails) as well? Love the look of this wall hook.
They are commercially made bolts that I strip and then run through the fire to blacken them ua-cam.com/video/hr8jU_-JWHc/v-deo.html
Great! Thanks for sharing the link to your video on that. Much appreciated.
If you were to make one for outdoors, would linseed oil or beeswax keep it from rusting, or is there some type of stainless steel that's relatively easy to forge? The internet gives me contradictory information, and I'm not sure any of it's worth the paper it's printed on.
I don't use stainless, although I know it can be done. I finish with Johnsons paste wax. But a mixture of linseed oil and bees wax will also work. Any oil or wax finish will need to be maintained more often outside.
Quick question would you make me a 2ish pound peening hammer nothing fancy just usefull? Please pm me a price we can go from there i just dont have the resources to make my own right now. Thankyou for your time and comments really enjoy your videos i kinda like the safety concious parts to be honest i see soo many bandaids in other videos so its a must for sure.
I would be happy to discuss making a hammer for you. I find messages through UA-cam tend to get lost. If you could send me an email that would be better. switz@mindspring.com
Did you use hex lag bolts on this to attach to the wall?
Hex or square head blackened to match
During the band sawing the head of the saw was bouncing up and down. That seems a bit odd.
Its just a characteristic of the saw. The head is spring loaded for tension. As the saw cuts the blade pulls or relaxes depending on the pressure of the feed or any dull spots in the blade. This is an older blade, it doesn't do it as much with a fresh blade.
I notice there is no ring to your anvil is there a reason for that. ??????????
