Listened to this song many years ago before I knew what shinty was, then I went to Scotland to study and now I'm on a shinty team and I just rediscovered this song! Camanachd Oilthigh Glaschu gu bràth!
You feel down? Had a hard day? Put on this song and it'll lift you up again. Can't prevent my feet from tapping along (or dancing madly when no one sees)...
Love this - I played shinty at school in Darlington and having been hit over my fingers that swelled until they burst I had no fear in playing hockey in the deep south of England - Runrig you are the best !!
the origins of ice hockey are from shinty, after the great Scottish migration across the empire Scots settled in Canada and brought with them their sports and culture, Ice Hockey was born from migrants playing shinty on ice.
Also probably from the Gaels is why so many songs have repeated certainly chorus's actually more loosely I'll say! But I'll fully admit I never once thought about that yeah makes logical sense!
Good to see the band thriving. Cracking album. Love all the tracks. Last saw them live with Donnie but want to see the new guy in action! Thanks for posting.
They sound great live. I saw them at The Regent in Ipswich, suffolk. Fantastic as good as the records live. If you haven't seen them you've missed a treat.
This WAS my ringtone on my mobile phone - had to change it because I missed so many calls ;)! I spent so long singing to the song that the calls went to 'voicemail' :D!
@annmackay1 do you mean are the teams playing in the video loch shiel against spean bridge??? If it was im not too sure, I personally thought that it was Kingussie Vs Fort William.
Macaulay123456789, Would you believe that Rungrig have never had a single released in Australia. Damn Aussie's are uneducated LOL greta song this,,,,,,Jim.
very sad to see this, this is not runrig, come on donnie & pete get back with the rest of the band & make real runrig music kick the interlopers out, runrig can make it a yes vote in september, but only if it is the originals
Your use of the word interlopers is incorrect. Interlopers - (a person who interferes or meddles in the affairs of others). Bruce and Brian were ASKED to join Runrig by the two people who founded Runrig. Donnie and Pete left Runrig by their own choice 15 years ago. GET OVER IT!!!
How very sad to see that some RR fans are still stuck in the past. As said before, Donnie and Pete left. Had neither been replaced, then we would not have Runrig. You need to jump onboard the real world, you are missing out on some fantastic new RR music and gigs. No one member of a band cannot be replaced.

I love the music. I love the band. I love the video. I love seeing those shinty boys shining like the sun. And I *love* the matchy outfits.
The original band name on the drum is a nice touch!
R.I.P Bruce 😢
They all look like my dad, but they're all so cool!
Pull low when the ball is high, way I learned to play junior hurling in the 80s,
Best band ever.
Can't wait to see them again in summer.

I don't really follow shinty, as I ride in motorcycle trials, but in Lochaber there are a lot of lads who do both sports! Slante, Big John

This video was filmed in the pub down the road from me XD
Great!
Shinty may well be the origins of Ice Hockey. But bless me! Some of those films had the look like scrums with sticks! :D
+Penny Thomas Match being played at An Aird Fort William Scotland down by railway station

Off to see the boys today at Edinburgh Castle.....Och Aye.....
That's him on the acchordian too, isn't it? He played with them at the Barrowlands at the tail end of last year. A quality gig.
Suddenly, I want to see a Shinty match...and I've no idea what it is ...except it looks like v v v scary hockey:). Only Runrig can do this!!!
Went to see them at Southampton, they were awesome - not so sure about them singing 'swing low sweet chariot' at the end of the gig though lol x
I think the cover of the cd was taken at the shinty park at An Aird, Fort William?
This band is just amazing! Can't wait for their latest album to be delivered (ok i know i'm slow)
@zealously10 when we first got the Album i had to play this full volume in the car or at home :D And sing my heart out!
This WAS my ringtone on my mobile phone - had to change it because I missed so many calls ;)! I spent so long singing to the song that the calls went to 'voicemail' :D!
Cheesy vid. Great song. I play shinty myself. Seen them live twice, each time they were amazing!
Gary Innes is at the front of the crowd.

The best shinty team....PORTREE!!!!
Or LOCHCARRON, no? 😉
@stephieworld They are awesome aren't they, I only have vids and seen them on here so far. Donny was their best singer, how is he now ?
@runtaeyoo you do realise that Runrig are actually a hugely famous Scottish band...they just made this video for a laugh...
where is it
Could anyone tell me where this was filmed?
The band footage was filmed in the old BA (British Aluminium) Club, Fort William. The shinty match was filmed at An Aird, Fort William.
@zealously10 what if your in a wheel chair?
I should have known they were Scots!
Hello
Clash with Ashe anyone ?
OK, I'll correct that...more like rugby with camans...
very sad to see this, this is not runrig, come on donnie & pete get back with the rest of the band & make real runrig music kick the interlopers out, runrig can make it a yes vote in september, but only if it is the originals
