    The first three Tribal Tech albums will always be my favorite- any live clips from that time are like musical gold.

    To see him at MI in 83 was a revelation. The first time I saw him play just him Gary Willis Kenward Denard and just the steel drums for the keyboard parts. Best power trio plus one you’ve ever seen. His playing changed everyone back then . This from that time period. Treasure. .

    I was in the audience! It was mind blowing for us young pups! All the teachers flowing at such a high caliber. While Billy Idol was robbing our youth with spoon fed idolism. Just saw Bob Shepard with Billy Childs. My brain still hasn`t recovered from the evolution.

      I and MANY of us agree! It's like Scott doesn't like the version of himself that most of us love lol

      I moved to Hollywood in '84, lived right next to Guitar Center. Had friends that worked at GC and at GIT. Wish I would have been aware these shows. I hung out at the Baked Potato and other jazz clubs mostly, miss those days.

    From "Spears"... One of the greatest fusion records in the 80s. The early Charvel years;-)

    One of the few players who've gotten more aggressive and more adventurous with age.

    As much as I admire all the great musicians that were a part of this band, this has always been my favorite period, with stronger composition in the Weather Report tradition. And the underrated Steve Houghton on drums. Seemed to me like he always preferred his teaching career better. But still, here's an example that some of those who can teach - can actually burn too!!!

    A lot of his awesome tone comes from the joint he smokes at 0:38 and 5:47. No joke.

    AWESOME!!! I can't believe I never saw TT live. I don't know why. I love the changes that the band went through over the years. But the early material really takes me back.
    I remember I went to LA to catch King Crimson @ The Greek Theater and we drove by Dantes and you were playing there. If i was by myself I would've cought you instead.
    Cheers,
    MZ

    Loved the early TT, and when Scott hangs more in that jazz mode. Good camera work here, we can see what he is doing on the guitar, some camera guys don't get that concept.

    I doubt it, since they're on stage at MI, and likely in front of students - he probably lit a cigarette before the tune started, took a couple of drags and left it there, where it kinda went out - what you saw has him dragging harder in an attempt to re-light the perhaps not- -so-dead cherry. Having said that, I'm also sure he has done it, at least in his past.

  • @WrestlingErnestHemingway
    @WrestlingErnestHemingway 6 років тому +1

    Hey look, no Kinsey or Covington and Tribal Tech still sounded great and powerful. Greatest fusion band of all time and they don't make records anymore because one band member (Gary Willis) moved to Barcelona and lives there now. Stupid they haven't moved on and got another bass player. Tribal Tech had other band members in the past before Covington and Kinsey. Robertino Pagliari could have EASILY replaced WIllis a long time ago and Tribal Tech still could have been making records and playing. Why Henderson doesn't want to make more great music with Tribal Tech I don't get it. His Trio is SUBSTANDARD improv boring crap musically in comparison and Henderson probably knows this. So wtf? The Led Zeppelin of fusion music and fans get a new album every 10 years? LOL. Sounds like Tom Scholz and how he wasted time with making Boston albums LOL. It's a shame. Most artists and guitar players know how to play ALL their past tunes. It's no wonder why Henderson forgets how to play his old tunes. He lets 10 years go by. I asked him (years ago back in the day at LaVee Lee gigs) why they never play music from their "Spears, Dr. Hee, and Nomad" albums, and he told me, "We forgot how to play those tunes." What? LOL.

      I heard him 3 years ago and it was a blast. Sure, nothing like Willis and Covington, but his compositions are still there. I have to agree though, that it's a shame that youngsters like me will never hear these gems live.
