Not really. Most important step. Make sure when you remove old filter that the old rubber seal came out as well or is still adhered to the top of the old filter. If not you'll be driving along one day and lose all your oil. Engine will burn up then off to the scrap yard you go.
If your watching this don’t tighten your filter with anything but a clean rag and your hands 🤣it’ll be stuck when you go to do it again also wait 10 minutes to check the oil because it’ll be in the top of the motor still so it’ll be an inaccurate reading

I couldn't want to try this instead of going and having it done. So of course I promptly ran over my new oil filter because the boots I was using to raise the car were too small.
Save it. I give it to a local shop that burns used oil for heat. Most auto parts stores will take used oil. Always save an old jug for used oil when you do oil change because most vehicles don't use 5 qts so you will have new oil left over.
Good explanation. Though use your hand to tighten that filter. No need to use a tool. Will make the next time easier to get it off.

but my 2009 focus only fits a 17mm on my drain plug, huh?

I’ve never done that either. Looked odd to me.
It’s preferred on heavy duty trucks to make the process easier, but for smaller cars for example a Ford Focus it’s not necessary when changing the oil
yeah. just smudge oil on the top to seal. don't pour oil into it.
ALWAYS make sure to check that the old filter gasket has been removed before installing a new filter. That's a mistake you will only make once.

you never ever ever ever put drain plug back in before the filter is removed. bad bad bad. never tighten oil filter with tool. LOL
