    Thank you very much! I just replaced the passenger side motor mount on my wife's 2010 Focus at 86k miles like the one you replaced in this video and the difference is incredible!!! She literally asked me "did my car start?" when she turned the key because literally 90% of all the vibration was GONE! $132.xx plus tax at my local ford dealership but it was worth every penny! I replaced it myself by the way in just a little over 15 minutes...

    Thank you so much for the great video. Bought the part and installed in under 30 minutes. My elderly mother in law had grown so used to the vibration that she didn't notice a problem. She certainly noticed the improvement after the repair. Thank you again!!!!

    Thank you very much for this great video. I just finished replacing the engine mount on my 2009 Ford Focus SEL and I was amazed at the difference it made. I am a very mechanically sound individual and the entire repair only took me 25 minutes. I was able to find the engine mount cheapest at AutoNation Ford Parts in White Bear, MN. I ordered it on 11/17/15 and it arrived on 11/19/15. Thanks again for all the great FORD videos. THE BEST NEVER REST!!!

    Finally got around to changing the passenger side mount.. and the difference is like night and day! My focus feels like it's literally gliding when it drives, it's soo smooth. I had to watch this video again today to gain the confidence to do the job and it took me about 45 minutes. Thanks again for the informative video!

      +DaPaRappa I've been thinking about doing mine, but I don't feel too good about putting a jack under my oil pan. So, it wasn't too bad then?

    • @DashPadGames
      @DashPadGames 9 років тому +2

      psychotogen1 Yeah it wasn't bad at all. Just make sure you have a nice sized block of wood to put on the jack under the engine oil pan. I jacked it up slowly because I was scared, but it does spread the weight out making it easier to lift the engine.

      @@FordTechMakuloco You're AWESOME!! LOVE your videos!! My mom has a 2011 Focus SE. Always doing the work on it when it needs it. She has the same problem. I am pretty sure it's the motor mount. If it is, should the driver's side mount be changed too? I am just thinking about changing things in pairs like suspension parts. Thanks in advance...👍😁
      UPDATE ...The mount(s) seem fine. I think it's her muffler. It did have a few small leaks on it on one end of it. I patched them up but a s***load of water came out of it. I think it's shot inside. Rusted from inside out. Should I buy an OEM muffler from Ford or are the aftermarket ones just as good? Thanks in advance....👍😁

    I used a paint pen because a little brake clean and it come off, but a sharpie marker will do also. The anti roll mount is underneath center backside of the engine, mounts by where the trans and engine meet looks like a figure 8. Rocks get stuck behind it where it mounts to subframe. I would check this out first as it happens primarily in reverse when the engine torque loads the mount rearward. Search for tsb 8-5-6

      Got the mount from Oreilly. It looks a little different. The brackets are a bit different on bottom even though the holes are an exact fit. I actually had to file a little off the bracket closest to valve cover it was almost top snug making the studs too angled. Just fyi if you get the oreilly one. $112. Great vid runs a whole lot smoother once installed

    Did this replacement today and OMG! what a difference. I replaced the driver side mount first thinking it was the culprit. But even after that, when I would open the two back doors both of them shook violently! along with the steering wheel, and everything else in the cabin. Even the battery shook after the driver side mount was replaced. So I was confused as to how it could be the passenger side since the battery was directly over the other mount! But, NOPE, I replaced this passenger side mount and It took "ALL" the shaking away. The car shifts better too! Man what a difference. Best 100 bucks I ever spent! (Not really, But its up there!) Thank you for the informative video. I hope this brings sanity to anyone looking to solve this issue.
    BTW, The initial test you recommended by slightly lifting the engine to relieve pressure on the mount was my green light that is was probably that passenger mount!!
    Happy Holidays.

    Thank you for listing the torque amounts. Mine was rattling so bad it cracked the windshield. The mount was disintegrated into two separate pieces. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Simple job! A note of difference from all the other videos I have seen, including yours.....My passenger motor mount stand did not have a 6th bolt underneath. Mine was removed by removing a metal subpost(like Tom Crawford below).
    Altogether, A simple procedure, and it runs so quietly now! I got my replacement piece for $20 bucks from a parts wholesaler(I never pay retail). Thanks man!

    Fantastic Video - thank you very much for this fine guidance !
    Today I changed this mount on my Ford C-MAX, 1,8 petrol, Trend from 2004. I have been driving with vibration issues for more than 3 years. My Ford service changed the button mount for about 1 year ago, but no big difference. Today I therefore changed the upper right mount myself. I used a Febi Bilstein mount, Germany quality, WHAT A DIFFERENCE - I HAVE A NEW CAR NOW, allmost. All vibration problems are gone now, it´s absolutely fantastic, I have forgotten how much comfort the car had before. There was no visual defects on the old mount, but I can se a small difference after mounting. The engine is about an half centimeter higher in the right side now, so the old mount just lost its strength over time.
    All the best from a happy dane ...

    I dreaded the day I'd have to do this because I'm so scared of putting a jack under my engine to lift it. But it does look like an easy job. I'll be doing mine this Sunday. The only thing that differs in this video is my coolant reservoir has to be moved aside since the overflow and coolant tank is all one unit in the 2005. Engine mount is exactly the same from what I've seen. I'll be so happy once that vibration is gone.

    Never seen the other side which is the trans mount go bad like the right hand side engine mount in this video. Go ahead and check it like I show in my video. Other thing to check is the rear anti roll mount under the car for rocks causing the vibration when the engine is loaded a certain direction.

    I just kept putting up with the rattling and noise getting louder and louder, but it was getting out of hand. I inspected the mount and it appeared that the oil had come out and it was worn badly, so I decided to replace it. Like other users have stated, it is staggering the difference this makes. Its so quiet I cant hear it now, and its very smooth as well. Great instructions, save yourself a few hundred dollars and do this job yourself.
    I was told to get the part from the ford dealership though, they said the aftermarket parts wont be near as good and you definitely want to stay away from the 'solid rubber' ones.

    • @FordTechMakuloco

    Great video. I think you may have helped me diagnose my U.S spec 2010 Transit Connect van with the Focus engine and mounts. Van only has about 36k and the problem started a while back. Vibration is noticeable at all times. Most noticeable through the gas pedal. Tried jacking the engine up and the vibration went away. Hopefully it's the passenger side mount. I'm hoping Ford will pick up the tab as I complained about the vibration and have it in writing well before the warranty was up.

    Not sure which bolts you are referring to but I am sure they are supposed to be there. Yes you can use ramps in the rear but make sure its in park AND parking brake is on as they are natural free rollers back there.

    @Mardy Crue. I have the same vehicle as you, and when I was test driving it from the dealership I purchased it from, it had the exact same issues as yours. The problem was this side engine mount was leaking fluid. I made them replace all the mounts with OEM before I made the deal and it fixed the issue. Unfortunately, OEM is the only way to go for that particular engine mount because it contains fluid and the aftermarket ones are cheaply made and don't have the required fluid if any at all.

    • @Jonathan-L
      @Jonathan-L 6 років тому

      Is it reasonable to say that the engine mount fails due to fluid leakage? So, if the mount doesn't leak, then it should remain in good order?

    Thanks for the video, got the job done. My replacement part from O'riely was only the insert, had to pry old one out and then bend a tab to keep the new one in. Didn't realize going in the lift point on oil pan was critical to getting a good lift. If too far to the center it lifts entire car.

    So I went out and bought this part made in USA for $180 CAD, did the change thanks to your instructions, and the results are great. Huge reduction in annoying vibrations, but I still feel a small vibration and I think it's coming from the Transmission Insulator mount under the battery box. When taking the tranny mount out, where should i support with hydraulic jack. engine or transmission. Quite sure shop manual still shows the support beam over the engine area, but vertically.

    Hi,
    You've helped me in the past. I had a 2000 focus that went through three coils. You told me me about a potential wire grounding, and you were 100% right. Two strands of wire were left and were grounding on egr tube. Thanks!
    My question is about your parts link on this video. When I click it, it brings up is a dea mount. When I look on a Ford parts site, the price is significantly different.
    Should I purchase part from dealer? If not, should I stick to dea manufacture only? In the past, I have had the best luck with dealer parts, but they are just so much more costly.
    Thanks in advance for your great advice, experience, and insights.

    I really enjoy your videos and the work you do, you are very informative and helpful !!! With that said, I absolutely don't like the way you use your influence to make people believe that they should only buy oem products, there are many after market products that are just as good and even better than the original Ford parts !!! there are many after market products that are inferior and perhaps that's why you recommend them but OEM isn't the only solution !!! With proper research you can differentiate between the two !!!

    Very well done - Thank you. A jack under the oil pan eliminated the vibration and was the test I needed. So is a factory part best in this case or will an oem part work from one of the big distributors? I subscribed to your channel. Wonderful.

    Excellent video, and thanks to this I will change my own. However the link to Amazon for the part seems to be in error. Got mine ordered from eBay. Oddly enough I'm kind of excited to work on my car.

    Thanks for the video. I had the same issue on my 2004 focus zx5. I took it to the dealer and fixed it, it feels like new now. They also checked the brakes and found a damaged thread on the rear spindle. They suggested to replace both rear spindles down the road. Would you recommend buying OEM spindles? Or aftermarket ones are good enough?

    What was the part number to order this mount as a complete part? Using the part fitment guide (link you provided) it only showed me the part with rubber and not the other metal part needed to attach to the frame. I want to remove the old one and replace with new one.

    i have a 2009 ford focus se automatic transmission and i need to change my passenger motor mount but i only have 65000 miles and my bracket is like new. Can i just buy the mount and install it on the bracket or is that to difficult. How would a person go about removing the mount from the bracket and install a new one. Thanks again i love your videos

      Jim B The only mounts that last are the Ford ones linked in the description and those come one way complete with bracket.

    Good tip about checking for the change in the vibration by unweighting the mount slightly with the jack, I'll have to try that- Was the bad mount visibly damaged upon inspection after it was removed, did it show cracks or anything? I was wondering if it could be inspected visually while still installed, is that possible?
    I seem to recall the idle on mine got rough after the engine got an oil mist bath from leaving the oil fill cap off; could that have prematurely caused the mounts to go?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  11 років тому

      They are almost never visible damaged until they are so bad they have tears in them on the underside. I wouldn't even waste time inspecting, try the jack technique and you will know. The oil bath would not cause the mount to fail no. You sure oil didn't get into the coil wells?

    • @hwingerrr5680
      @hwingerrr5680 11 років тому

      Maybe for the sake of science, I'll make a measurement of the sag of the engine side mount to the bracket surface and compare it with a newly installed one; it would seem like that distance would change as the mount sacks out.

      FordTechMakuloco I didn't have a chance to try unloading the mount with a jack yet, but I checked the right side mount by taking a strip cut from an old credit card and tried to slip it underneath the insulator, to check clearance between it and the bracket - nogo.
      There was no clearance, so that indicates it's basically grounded and sitting right on the bracket with no isolation - failed mount no longer suspending the engine properly.

    After removing the old mount, would this provide an opportunity to more easily replace the belt? I’m at 103,000 miles so I’m probably due for changing the belt as well. Thanks 👍🏻

    Thanks for the instructions. Just changed the passenger side mount on my 2013 and now it drives like a new car....aside from the transmission which Ford never seems to get working right. Still has that shudder in low gears.

    You say to only use Ford mounts, but your link is to an aftermarket part. Reviews say that part has failed for other people shortly after install. Can you clarify? Any advice for sourcing the lower mount?

    I know this has been a while but Im going to try and change my 2008 ford focus. Motor mounts...i have a few questions 1. When I do the lower mount on drivers side I can natually jack up the car right to be able to get under the car and if so do i jack the car up normally and then have a 2nd jack to put under the engine ? And 2 the one on the passenger side do u actually put the wood and jack under the oil pan itself is it strong enough not to bend the oil pan ?

    I have a 2011 Ford Fusion with just under 49,000 miles on it. I brought it into Ford service 2 weeks ago when I notice the steering wheel started shaking and the engine sounding like it was racing, and a lot of cracking/squeaking sounds coming from what sounded like the engine. after keeping the car for three days they said they couldn't duplicate the issue I described and told me the suspension/alignment etc basically everything checked out. After a week of having my car back, I was still experiencing the same symptoms, I just dropped it off again yesterday and Kevin my service advisor called and said that they needed to replace the engine and transmission mounts. My question is this, My car has never been in an accident, Is this normal for a 2011 Ford fusion with just 48K+ miles to have both engine and transmission mounts go bad?Thanks for any advice :)P.S. I also notice a funny odor coming from the heater since everything started happening.

      +Rebecca Janke I have seen the right hand mount separate and cause vibration issues yes but yours being so new and of such low mileage I highly doubt it. Is this the 2.5L? At any rate I think they are throwing parts at it at this point only have them replace the right hand mount and be sure to inspect the condition of the lower dogbone mount for wear and or debri grounding it out.
