This brings up some of the same issues that were raised during the Parkland shooting four years ago. With GSW victims can bleed out quickly and the hour delay could have prevented by some from getting saved.
So apparently the local law inforcement was afraid to go after the gunman because he was better armed, that's why they waited for a SWAT team to take him out. If civilians are out gunning law enforcement, wtf is the point?
the fact that this police department that serves a community of 20,000 were out gunned by an 18 year old kid with a weapon of war is just down right disgusting!!!
This appears to reflect the typical ignorance of ballistics emanating from the media. AR-15 rifles are chambered in either .223 or 5.56 nato. The two catridges are very similar. As cartridges specifically designed for rifles go, they're on the lower end of the power scale. That said, they tend to produce power (as measured in foot-pounds), in the same range as a .44 magnum handgun. So yes, for the kind of power obtained from handguns, it's fairly powerful. But for a rifle, it's on the bottom end of the scale with only few standard rifle cartriges producing less power. But foot-pounds aren't the only way to measure the power of a firearm cartridge. The power of the .223/5.56 comes from moving a very small (usually around 50gr) projectile at velocities approaching 3,000 feet per second. Compare that to a .44 magnum cartridge with a 180gr projectile moving at 1,700 feet per second. Both will deliver around 1,100 foot-pounds of energy, but the .44 magnum will be carrying far more momentum and will produce more penetration. This means that while it's not impossible for a .223 to penetrate a cinder block, it's not very likely. The .44 magnum will suffer far less damage to the projectile and is therefore far more likely to penetrate both sides of a cinder block. The .223 will likely penetrate one side of the cinder block, but will pulverize the projectile in the process. And shooting a single cinder block is different from shooting a cinder block wall. Because the cinder block in a wall can't expand side-to-side or up and down to allow pieces to break away as easily, it will be more resistant to penetration. So the .223 that the perpetrator was using would have been very unlikely to penetrate a cinder block wall without multiple hits in the same half of the same block. With all of that said, police could not have known for certain what caliber of weapons the shooter would be using against them until after the seige ended. The media simply wants to hype "the power" of these weapons as a scare tactic and to appeal to viewers less familiar with the realities, and more impressed with emphasis on "power". When it comes to shooting innocent little children, a tiny little .22 long rifle can be veryblethal, though the velocity of the .223 produces far more hydrostatic shock, and therefore causes disruption of the tissues to a greater area surrounding the wound channel.
Thank You for explaining because I don’t know about guns or more powerful guns. So are you saying that I think you said a 44 magnum gun I assume the officers had could’ve stop the 18 year gun? If so why they didn’t know what you know? Sorry for asking so many questions. Just trying to make sense of this tragedy. Thank You.
