thanks, my hard drive crashed and needed an operating system to work so used a flash drive thanks again! edit - my windows 7 on a flash drive is still working after a year and loading and everything is super smooth! I use Sandisk 64GB 3.0 and its great
MJ Some people specifically need portable Windows for certain things. I run Linux on my desktop _and_ my laptop, but I need Windows to use iTunes for music on my iPhone. Having Windows 10 on a USB drive with just iTunes and my music library is super useful.

If i downloaded windows 7 whit rufus file from pirate bay in the package then can i put the folder whith the files on the stick and run the instalation like that after i select boot from usb in bios or do i have to set it up by starting rufus and doing the seting from rufus and ofcorse whith the usb pluged in the pc i understand

+Zachary Pitts External hard drives act very similar to USB flash drives so yes it should work on a HD. Actually now that I recall I think the website may actually recommend using an external HD because in most cases they provide faster data transfer speeds VS standard flash drives plus they have a larger storage capacity. I do not really "review" operating systems but I will take a look at it and if I like it i might use it in a "garage sale finds" video.
alright thanks, i guessed that it would but you know how certain things are with usb and operating systems, the reason i suggested zorin was it uses a lot less resources compared to ubuntu even though it is a full fledged os, while still looking nice and running smooth
+Plaid X for windows 10 you need at least 32gb cause of bloatware. I turned my windows 7 into a iso and then used a program called nlite. it pretty much gets rid of all the stuff you don't need. it'll be barebones windows 7. but if you wanna use it for what I'm using it for its fine. although I wouldn't really suggest doing it, this is more of a last resort kinda thing.

You are partially right about the audio complains... But for us that don't speak English as native language is far easier to understand if the audio is loud and clear.
Windows runs slower than a glacier on USB2, and doesn't run at all on USB3. To get around this, I integrated the EWF filter from the Windows Embedded system. It toggles on and off with a reboot, so I can install stuff on it, I can even run it as a VM. With the filter enabled, all hard drive writes are simulated in ram, so it runs very fast. It's also bulletproof, no changes are made, and any changes disappear on reboot, so it can't get viruses, or otherwise trashed. You need to disable pagefiling if you run the EWF, since it sort of defeats the purpose.

I want to install a working copy of Windows 7 onto a USB media, which I can boot from, into a Windows 7 environment. To do this I believe I need to use the tools button & use Windows to go conversion, Is this correct?
the problem I have is I install the windows everything goes well, but than the computer restarts after 10 seconds after instalation and it shows the windows starting logo bit that it boots back to installation of windows, I don't know what to do
I used this for a long time with Windows 7/8 and Linux. Most of the time I have no issues but if the system fails to boot, it locks the USB stick rendering it absolutely useless. It cannot be reformatted no matter what steps taken to unlock it. The files are still able to be copied off of the drive but it's read-only.

Weird that the WinToUSB software wouldn't let me increase the size of the virtual Harddisk. I'm using a 64GB USB drive, and the default was still set to 14GB. And the arrows were greyed out, could not click them and could not select the text "14" to type in a bigger number. It's not a big deal.... just feels like a waste. Maybe I can fix that within Windows using the windows disk mannager (still installing to the USB at the moment).

Some important details he left out. What about if wanting to use Windows 10 on your computer hard drive again? Does this mean having to go back and resetting the bios to open the different Windows systems each time? Seems impracticable, a lot of messing about and hard work to me, including this could F/up your whole system if not careful.
You set your boot priority to the USB drive first and the system will look there first. If you have the USB drive in there it will try to boot the OS from there. If there's no USB in the drive it will automatically boot from the computer's HD. So you can have Win 10 normally but Win 7 if you want it (just put in the USB drive).
I have a W10 iso and I installed it onto my USB but it just shos up as a bunch of folders, which are W10 but I want to be able to boot into it on my USB

Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit doesn't seem to work with a PNY Turbo 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive, it stops loading at the blue window logo screen and I left it like that while I slept for hours. I should note however that I tried this method on a Windows XP 32bit computer that forced legacy as an option Windows 7 Ultimate does work with this method, however it forces your drive to use USB 2.0 which makes the system run very slow. Can confirm a 64bit version of Ubuntu works with it if you want to use a linux system instead.
Any tips on speeding it up? My Macbook Air with El Capitan 10.11.5 can only run the USB after starting up the computer running El Capitan then restart and run Windows off the USB or else it says "No boot device found" in the Windows option, then when it runs Windows (I used windows 8.1) it is real slow and it really is (It took 30 mins to get by the finalizing settings part and takes 1-2 mins to load, so any tips? I already turned off the fancy system things (animations and ect)
the reason it does not work with xp is because the method it installs windows is completely different in xp all things are computed on the fly and copied based on what you choose and what your computer tells the installer in vista and later all the install files are stored in wim files so it basically decompresses the wim file to the hard drive and after that it will compute what it needs or not the wim file method drastically improves time needed to install so thats why they kept doing it wintousb creates the bootloader and then will decompress the wim file to the usb stick like the windows installer so with the xp disk it cant find the wim file and it cannot continue
I have a 32 GB Sandisk flash drive stick. And whenever I start Win2usb, it says that my flash drive is not partitioned or something of the sort. Why does it say that? I ca back to soft after about 10 years when I was using soft soft 10 and for its best program Ive seen in fact its also simpliest one

a lot of computers can use the F12 key at boot to select the boot device instead of having to go into the BIOS settings

What do I do if my dead hard drive Windows 7 will not allow me to access bios? I have a black screen with no mouse and unable to access safe mode.
Any tips on speeding it up? My Macbook Air with El Capitan 10.11.5 can only run the USB after starting up the computer running El Capitan then restart and run Windows off the USB or else it says "No boot device found" in the Windows option, then when it runs Windows (I used windows 8.1) it is real slow and it really is (It took 30 mins to get by the finalizing settings part and takes 1-2 mins to load, so any tips? I already turned off the fancy system things (animations and ect)

the reason it does not work with xp is because the method it installs windows is completely different
in xp all things are computed on the fly and copied based on what you choose and what your computer tells the installer
in vista and later all the install files are stored in wim files so it basically decompresses the wim file to the hard drive and after that it will compute what it needs or not
the wim file method drastically improves time needed to install so thats why they kept doing it
wintousb creates the bootloader and then will decompress the wim file to the usb stick like the windows installer so with the xp disk it cant find the wim file and it cannot continue

I have a 32 GB Sandisk flash drive stick. And whenever I start Win2usb, it says that my flash drive is not partitioned or something of the sort. Why does it say that? My hard drive is broken, and I want to try out this procedure. I have a HP windows 7 laptop and an Acer windows 7 notebook as well. So just let me know on why I am getting this error. It says that the disk is not partitioned. So help me out here to fix this problem that I am having. So thank you very much.

Any reason why the laptop would go into BSOD after booting from Win7 USB? it literally shows the Starting Windows screen then straight into BSOD.

I made a bootable windows 8 drive on my corsair voyager gs (512 gb) and when I go to boot up it says "inaccessible boot drive". Why is this happening. It is a usb 3.0 flash drive but I plugged it into a usb 1 or 2 port.
