This version has a lot cleaner sound than the other one posted on UA-cam with the entire title "She's a Looker/Talkin' To The Wall".. Shame this killer tune(s) were not recorded in the studio and added on either of the first 2 albums. KILLER TUNES!!
I agree. Totally should have released on one of their albums. I think this was more of a lost idea. Sounded good, but they didn't want a to release it because it didn't have that Boston sound Scholz was shooting for.
Brad sounds exactly like Paul McCartney on the first song. Brad does a mean Paul. Brad was an avid Beatles fan. Check out his Beatles cover band Beatlesjuice.
These are the first demo's that he worked on with Delp, Goudreau and Jim Masdea 1969-1972. He was never happy with them because he couldn't get the right feel out of them. The second set of demo's that got them the Epic Records deal were recorded by Scholz, Delp and Masdea 1973-1975.
Scholz engineering and mastering could have made this a more "boston" like song. The rawness of this demo really gives insight to his inspiration, and you can see elements of this song in songs that did make it big.
@ViciousAlienKlown Yes this is definitely BOSTON - that is Brad. - These demos were cut WAY before Tom perfected how to EQ Brads voice (and which mic to use for him!) and before he got the BOSTON guitar sound down. Tom was a BIG fan of the James Gang. Tom never wanted this stuff to be heard anyway. Since this stuff surfaced, he makes sure all the tapes are shredded before tossed in the garbage.
This is more likely what the early Boston demo that Barry produced sounded like, the one that was rejected by the record companies. Tom took the demo, reworked and pretty much rewrote everything in his basement studio, creating the Boston sound.
This is a medley of two songs. First song is "She's A Looker" (written by Scholz), then at 2:45 it switches to "Won't Respond" (written by Barry Goudreau)
PatrickTX100 If you listen to Brad's Beatle Juice band, he sounds just like Paul McCartney. That voice of his was AMAZING, and will never be duplicated.
Barry personally wrote to me and confirmed he played San Francisco bay demo solo's (which became Hitch a Ride). Those solo's are nothing to write home about. He confirmed Tom played all Hitch a Ride Solo's and 90% of the guitar on the first two albums. Tom can't play guitar? Listen to the live solo's to A Man I'll never be. He has more feel and vibrato than Barry ever had fools! I've been playing guitar for 30 + years! Trust me! That being said, Barry is a very solid guitar player. What a team the two were, Tom ruined it!
I agree Lou. Tom is a genius but his perfectionist /control freak nature kept Boston from being a true super group rather than a great one that didn't make enough records. He never should have thrown Barry out of the band and should have leverage Barry and Brad's ability to write songs. Their work on Barry's solo album, Orion, RTZ & later together was excellent. Boston should have released 4-5 more albums than wasting all those years in legal battles.
Brad was a very good friend of mine, and you guys are right...Tom is a douche...You have no idea...I personally saw Tom berate Brad, for something completely stupid, after a show in 1995. It was horrible!! I lost any respect I had left for Sholz that night. Brad only stuck it out as long as he did for his fans. He loved the fans...turns out, he stuck it out too long... 💔💔💔
Not sure how anyone can think that isn't Brad. This is a great tune...too bad it never made it to an album. If you can find it, you should check out "Shattered Images" by Boston-another unreleased great!...
@Towncrier123 That's exactly what I thought, opening riff very similiar to Funk#49. Whover said the James Gang was a forgettable group, I'd have to disagree. They had some good songs.
@bluesbred3 Just as an fyi to anyone reading Blue's comment, Mother's Milk was NOT the group on the demo that Scholz sent to Epic (to secure their first recording contract). That recording only had Scholz, Delp and Jim Masdea on it. Fran Sheehan, Sib Hashian and Barry Goudreau are not on that. In answer to your question, Bluesbred, I bet you'd only get the real truth from Barry, Jim or Tom at this point. We can't get Brad's opinion anymore :( rip
@@justyce0223 Good friend. Wow nice. But could you be able to shed some light on the More Than A Feeling demo. You do know that Barry actually played very little on the first two Boston albums? That most of the guitars and the bass was all done by Scholz in his studio? Barry is a great guitarist but didn't do much on Boston - but some of it was important. On the first album, Barry played lead on Long time and Let me take you home tonight - that's it. On the second album he played the intro/outro lead on Don't Look Back (song) but Scholz did all the rest in that tune. Barry also played lead on the Delp song Used to bad news. And Fran Sheehan played bass on close to zero of the album recordings. This is not a knock on Barry - I would have liked to see more of him on Boston albums.
Please, the writing and guitar credits for all of bostons songs are clearly documented and to my knowledge have never even been disputed by Goudreau. In fact in one interview, he gives Tom equal credit along with himself for creating the clean Boston guitar sound. Yes I'm sure you "know" otherwise right. You were were probably there in Scolz's studio while they were recording... Please.
It doesn’t have the interwoven guitar that Boston was known for. It’s just not good enough. It’s still interesting to hear it but I can see why it was left off any albums. It just doesn’t have that Boston sound and feel to it. There are hits and misses. This is a miss.

Its evident to me they were still searching for an identity---they hadn't quite established their "sound" yet! This music was all wrong for them---playing Edgar Winter/James Gang type funk rock is not them! If this was going to be what their first album was---they would have never made it because it was derivative. It had been done before, and better. Ironically, it was the original style of music that they did later with an upbeat melody that the record labels turned down. Why wouldn't a record label want originality? Van Halen and Boston made some of the most original heavy rock music of the 1970s that was totally a new thing, and they both had trouble getting signed
