I grew up in a tiny town in the US. Every time I go back, something is different, and it definitely feels weird every single time. I dont think I will ever get used to it. This is what aging is. Both a shock and a surrender.
Thanks for sharing this personal journey Frank! I've never thought about a curry rice with spaghetti mix but they both seem really comforting so I can see why they would work so well! And yes, I don't think after all those spicy ramen challenges you took that any Japanese curry is going to compare haha
As always, thanks for watching and coming along! Carbs on top of carbs (curry rice and spaghetti a heavenly combo) 😃 Haha and you're right about the spicy ramen challenges making this one more than doable.
I totally understand the feeling of nostalgia, when you visit the places you grew up around and bringing back the fun times of your childhood, family, and the "good old days". Even hearing music from your childhood can evoke such nostalgia too, so I bet everything hitting you all at once (sights, smells, sounds, etc) was a lot to take in at once. Its such a great reminder that life can pass you by in a blink of an eye, so savor every moment you have on this planet. PS good choice with the Persona 5 music!
Absolutely and I'm glad the video ignited a sense nostalgia on your side! Well said - it's important too savor every moment, Thanks for watching and glad you liked the music too!
Frank, I love your old neighborhood. ❤. Thinking back to my old childhood, I never really had any favorite places to dine like you did. But for me it's always nice to drive and visit all the neighborhoods and the schools.
Ah you are from Kaminoge. Futako tamagawa has really gotten more commercialized these past years! Always nostalgia to visit your old neighborhood and you get to try a new ramen shop to go with it. Well worth the extra carbs!
Greetings Frank Sama. Thank you for sharing this very personal Vlog with this visit to your childhood neighborhood. Sad to hear that the old ramen shop there closed. but relieved to hear another one replace the old one. Best wishes and success.
It was wonderful knowing that the ramen lived on, just in another form with the new shop 😊 Arigato gozaimasu! Thanks for coming along for the journey and the same to you!
@@5AMRamen i spend way too much time looking through random instagram posts 😅 i almost thought i had found a hidden gem nobodys ever heard of before but you beat me to it!
Awesome that you read Robin Jarvis too! Going back and reading them again I've been thinking, wow these are pretty dark for kids books lol. Thanks for watching!
Nice!! You might as well...although be warned it's probably not the best curry in Japan, haha. But it's special to me. Also - that park (with Tamagawa Kofun) is one of my favorite in Tokyo. Another place I used to go to a lot.
Nice trip down memory lane. Ramen and curry both seem really excellent. But I gotta ask: what is that book you are reading? Looks like something up my alley. 😃
It's a Robin Jarvis book! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raven%27s_Knot?wprov=sfla1 Read it when I was a kid and decided to pick it up again. Thank for coming along the memory lane trip!
Hi Frank, i am from sydney australia visiting japan and singapore for the first time with my girlfriend. On our itenary i have chosen , tomita , nakiryu , ichiran , Hakata issou , Muttepou. For ramen. Any tips ?. i understand now that tomita has an online reservation option. and with nakiryu you need to get there an hour before opening time. I have chosen muttepou as it is the chain which mori san from gumshara - sydney learnt his craft and us sydney sider , aussies enjoy as it is sydneys number one ramen shop in my opinion.
Thanks for visiting my old stomping grounds with me!
🥹 so teary eyed over here
Lol. You were there in spirit.

Well said! Weird and all the things you mentioned but I also imagine some comforting feelings too.
Love the intro to other non-ramen food. Locals favourites too, with some personal sentiment
Swear no other youtube channel gets me hungrier than this one 😭😭😭
Haha, love it!

It was a beautiful area.....lovely homes
Love how green it is compared to other parts of Tokyo!

I was in Tokyo last Summer and stayed at an Air BnB in Suginami, I wish I knew this ramen shop and would have visited it. Maybe next year. 😊
Suginami, right above Setagaya, as you know is equally quiet and a wonderful place to stay! For the next trip 😉

I'm sure driving past those schools and neighborhoods tho conveys the same emotions ☺️
Thanks for watching!
This personal trip back to your old neighborhood was pretty neat, Frank! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching!

For sure! Futako Tamagawa has gone through so many changes since I was a kid...Kaminoge, not so much tho 😅

A beautiful neighbourhood; love the back story and personal history too.
The ramen looked really elegant, thank you Frank :)
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed the neighborhood walk and the elegant ramen!
Thanks for sharing such personal gastronomic experience!
Lamen plus other delicious recommendations are very welcome, too! 🤭
Likewise, thanks for watching! Nice to throw some things in there that aren't ramen 😊
Sounds like the perfect day! Good eats and a wander for a gander where you grew up. ✨ Taking it all in is breathing life into me.
Twas the perfect day! Happy the video breathed life into you 😊
awesome! i was eyeing naminoaya a little while ago, their mini kaisendon set looked really good!
Have yet to try their kaisendon set! How did you come across them? They're pretty deep in Setagaya 😊

Loved seeing where you grew up and ate when you were younger. Would love to see more of these types of videos
Might not be for a little while but will definitely do another in the future!!
Interesting to hear about your old neighbourhood (also I spotted the Robin Jarvis book, I used to love his books growing up)

I really like your videos, Frank! You deserve at least ten times the amount of subscribers you currently have.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!
モグモグ! I’m going to explore tamagawa kofun in January…might pop in for some of that curry

Nice, action-packed ramen plan! Outside of reserving Tomita, I think it's just abut going early, with the paces on your list quite popular.
