Lee don't need it, I'll give ya that. But it is a lot of fun to miss out on.
Another method of getting enormous damage scaling on the Swords is to go Siege Weaponry. It's spicy too, but there's a LOT less investment, and you can take a different Body gear.
Engineer with Defense Drones is a solid combo to support it with.
Edit: and Courser/Swords/Temporal Shield = Crobat. Who knew?

Honestly I want to see a sword build based around phantom strike and a bunch of double taps now. The flurry of blades going off every ram was really cool, and I want to see what happens if you invest in it.
The only problem with that is how wonky the phantom blink is. It really likes to put you just out of sword range.
We still want to see it.
@@MsHojat Could you make it work with Omni Shield and Gemini Protocol, so you'd be taking damage against a relatively tiny health pool, but still have a large shield to actually defend yourself?

Since you are looking for fun things to do with swords, you should try the targeting tree. Does nothing to the swords really, but it turns the sparks into psudo sharks. Throw on more projectiles, and they can easily fill the screen with sparks on a good swing through some projectiles.
Then, there is of course the build you dont want to hear. Strafing strikes can ramp thesword damage considerably just from strafing in the same direction over and over. Turns battery into something akin to hullbreaker.
In this episode of Nova Drift, Lee swings like it is the sixties again.

Something else that blades can do: Hullbreaker Apotheosis. Normally, taking Apotheosis on Hullbreaker is probably the absolute worst decision you can make, for... incredibly obvious reasons. But with Blades, it lets you essentially get the damage and aoe of the higher tiers of Celestial Lance without any of the self-damage, and do hullbreaker stuff without worrying about crash or knockback at all. Plus, it's the perfect build to name the "Sword Saint" build.

The Railgun Messiah goes CQC, the Four Bladed Angel rises, and Jimmy can't even.

I never noticed the shield recharge effect, I thought it was Last Stand going off.
Honestly, I'm not particularly creative when it comes to Nova Drift. With these new swords, I think my favorite go-to has just been the usual Research setup to get enough Evolutionary Niches that switching to Engineer results in having three sets of swords instead of just two, and taking Charged Shot for that sweet burst damage. (Bravado and Ataraxia-5 help a LOT with this.) And finally, both Phantom Strike and Outrage Module, which runs the risk of dying by exploding rammer enemies but lets you just bump into something and instantly give it the Bury the Light treatment. (Though then, I tend to take a mix of offensive and defensive upgrades, and in this situation it's almost always leaning fully into stacking hull strength and regeneration rate via normal mods but banishing things like hypermetabolism.)
I feel like Architect is one of the best bodies for swords.
Finally, the General Grevious build I've been asking for!!!
i still love the icarus/daidalius run that happened here. wish we could get engineer wing blades, but it's such a fucking pain in the ass.
those swords did a lot of defensive work to be fair. they DO block projectiles and at that high rate of fire with four swords you block a lot of bullets
Yeah for that reason they are pretty great paired with defense drones for that arc barrier.

You could have banished normal mods when you had one reroll, a rule of thumb is to NEVER press the reroll button when there is a mod to banish.

World record speedrun: Blink percent
This was definitely one of your more interesting builds and all those chaotic ambitions at the start did some interesting things to the mod pool. ... I don't think Grandeur is supposed to show up quite that frequently. It does make me wonder about two different builds though.
First, how would blades handle Siege Weaponry? The basic interaction should be the same as this build, but it's also interacting with the ramping damage in an odd way, since it's converting the speed you'd normally gain into damage instead. Would it result in a slower damage ramp, allowing you to maintain it for longer?
Second, if you get an early Chaotic Ambition, how far can you push the Grandeurs? What can you do to minimize, or mitigate, the your continually decreasing speed and how many free levels can you pull out of it?
And this feels like the opposite of a speed run.
Such a daring build, and I personally felt there was a lot of luck in those first upgrades! One lil missed opportunity was Overclock! (Edit, no overclock doesn’t like swords), awesome build play indeed!
Overclock specifies 'non-weapon' constructs, so it doesn't work with swords. That's why I didn't take it! :D

I get the feeling that Lee believes that removing wild mods from the pool is going to help with the Chaotic Ambition overload. It won't. The number of wild mods stays the same, there's just a smaller pool to pick them from. And if there aren't enough, you get Voids.
Are you sure? I feel like if that was the case I would have seen a void in this video. On top of that, I had so few wild mods in the pool that I was still getting regular mods during a transmogrification set (which I would imagine would show up as voids if what you said was true).
"The Void is a special mod that only appears naturally in the mod pool once the player has started exhausting all upgrade options."
If you have to exhaust all options, it will necessarily show the available options if it can.

Swords protect the leviathan from bullets, it's 2nd biggest weakness.
12:40 No, the reason to take Bravado is because bigger enemies = more XP = more levels. You wanna kill more elites and be higher level by the time wave 200 comes.
I had a thought. not something Lee and James can do though. I wanna see a TAS Pacifist run of Nova drift, how long can you survive with perfect reflexes and a pure heart.

Having been playing this build for little bit, had honestly thought it had already been done. Granted the research banish did some solid lifting. That being said, have we found out if it's possible to get 6 swords? Been trying to get an facehugger kinda build. With all the swords and the no clip super mod. :D

I tried this build just based on the title. Wish I’d watched the video first. I ended up grabbing anti-matter rounds late because I thought, “Oh that’ll look neat.”

So here is my question ... if you modify this build very slightly to use engineer and all the EvoNiches alongside the double taps ... could you get a third pair of blades to give yourself a permanent slashy bullet shield?

I know they only affect the reflected projectiles, but could homing, splinter, snipe and those types of mods make those reflected projectiles dangerous enough to be worth it?
Yes they work quite well, they also do well with ricochet which makes me happy

That's true. Battery would've been more damage and hull while courser is more thrust.

Mortar blade will make blade more interesting and question will enginner get more blade if you take enough evolution nieche?
I think going with hullbreaker would have been a better idea.

Huh. I tried to avoid using burst fire (the mod itself) in order to avoid the annoying delay but apparently stacking the double taps does the same thing. I did not have barrage due to this.
Anyway what I ended up with was basically unleashing a storm of seemingly 100 sword strikes to the enemy's face then a ridiculous cooldown.
What SHOULD work... would be the other wild mod of which the name eludes me. The one that adds another projectile. Assuming a sword counts as a projectile.
Theoretically what would happen if you could get a bunch of those at the same time? Is that doable? Would you use barrage (and therefore one burst fire) with that or just use it on its own? I'm not sure if it would add sword attacks to the sequence or just hit with more at the same moment.
I'm not even sure if that particular mod is stackable.

I have to ask...once you have aderaxia and reliably see the double challenger whats to stop you from gaining tons of levels?
Besides dying to the challengers themselves? The fact that every level I take double recursive mods my total health goes down until I explode. :P
Because there are very very few builds that can survive, let alone beat multiple challengers at once. Especially as the challengers can be bosses. I tried eight at one point. I did not survive.
Yo C-uys, why don t you try the BEErrage build? just shark build but slow projectiles and ALL projectiles (convergence helps), with burn damage, splinter and warp shot are kinda core to make em look like a swarm, it will BEE a swarm (ye i know those jokes sucks but ye) heavy calibers for the BEEg and nothing else, just look at the BEEs BEEing mean and attack your enemies
also optimizing is amp, but BEE is halo
