Big Hal's Junkyard (stop motion junkbots short film)

- Two robots fight over spare parts in a junkyard squabble.
This was my first collaborative stop motion project, and my first time building wire armature puppets. I was working with two partners to produce this film in just one month. While I did the bulk of the animation, the other team members handled the graphic design and dialogue, as well as a massive amount of set building and fabrication. We were essentially a three-man studio.
Let's try and keep the Last Colony part 3 comments to a minimum, please.
This video is not intended for users under 13 years of age due to robots getting dismembered.

Dude UA-cam algorithms really need to be fixed. They cater to lazy pandering videos and don't recommend gold like this. You are incredible at this.
I love the varying usage of parts here. Bionicle feet for the little guys forearms, a frigging neo shifter hand for the big guys hand! Truly incredible.
Thanks! There's a bunch of tiny details to notice on the characters- Slappy's chest and right forearm, for instance, are made from my first phone.
Brilliantly made!
Holy shit, this is outstanding. amazing smooth animation, great props, and attention to detail. Wow. Very, very well done.
I really like the click clack sounds when the bot pick up something or interact with something. In conclusion. Nice work
This is amazing! That transition from the logo to the sign was amazing, the design of the characters is amazing, and the fact that the eyes are lego studs is amazing!
Your animations are always stunning, Charlie, and this one is no different. Well done, Mootroid Productions Team!
All those broken Bionicle parts hurts my soul
But I love that there being put to use
Very creative. It looks like one of the characters, the second character that was introduced acted a little lack General Grievous from Star Wars.
I showed my nephews this.
They thought it was hilarious!!! Especially at the end where that one robot got smashed by Big Hal.
Thank you so much! I'm glad they liked it! This is one of my favorites!
I have no snarky comment.. That was just awesome. Love the character design
An excellent piece of work, hope the three of you are proud at what you achieved in just a month.
Dude! You are so underrated. Your animations are amazing! Great job on this and pretty much everything else.
Top quality animation and set but most impressive are the characters and how the story is driven.
Like a proper proper stop motion film 😊
Now this was absolutely amazing! All three of you made an astonishing piece of work. The fluidity of the movements was pure eye candy, something I strive to do myself. And they way to tell a story with no dialogue, perfection! Be proud of this, again, great work!
Hella perfect, the robots looked like real junkbots
Fantastic work! The motions are super fluid, and those designs are epic!
Why. doesent this have 1 million views yet its so good
because no one searches for original content on youtube, so youtube doesn't want to promote it
👍
HAL!!! Perfect name choice!!!! Amazing work, guys!!!!
ah, you must be a Colleague
Get this man more views he worked extra hard on this at least to a million.
P.s love your vids
I know this is an older vid now, but it looks really good. Very clean animation and excellent sound effects. The props were also awesome
Holy shit, A MOOTRIOD VIDEO!? This is the best day on my life
I loooove his videos
I see a notification of him and I stop everything I’m doing to watch his videos.
Both the figures and junkyard look great! Keep goin man!
Great sound design
Dude. You are going to GO places in the stop motion movies business...
That was absolutely fantastic dude!
This is really nice. For some reason, I kinda get a bonehead of voodoo island vibe from the designs of the characters
It amazes me how this does not have more views.
That was awesome. I bet it took forever too. Stop motion is not for the faint of heart
I love how he ignores the mask of time :)
0:42 mask of. Time from bionicle nice Easter egg
Super great work! I know how hard stop motion is. That just makes this video 100% better and alot of more respect for you
There's always a bigger fish
I love how the other dude gets demolished 30 still goes back for his parts
Fantastic work, excellent animation and the sound design was on point. Great job to everyone on the team!
Man I loved that, of course I love your Halo stuff but this honestly blew it out of the water
I haven’t even watched because I don’t have time right now but I just wanted to comment and say you’re awesome because I already know this is going to be great!!!
Hilarious. So glad I subbed. Thanks for the laughs.
Hey I hope it goes without saying that the animation was excellent so I really wanna focus on complimenting the sound design and comedic timing.
Great to see something out of the ordinary! I’m glad your expanding beyond Mega Construx a bit, even making your own creations, I’ve followed your Instagram for awhile now so I knew this was coming but I still appreciate all the work you put into making the sets and characters :)
Thank you so much. It's such a relief to hear that- I'm kinda sick of having to make nothing but Halo, and it's long since time I made more original work.
I’m still amazed at all your stop motions
Awesome short film! You really are great
I have no words! This is amazing!
Such a good animation but did you make the robots because they look cool.
I did, thank you!
Honestly one of the best videos I’ve seen in a while. What a great job guy :)
One word. Beautiful
this is amazing and deserves way more views and recognition
Bro, really be me at bricks and minifigs in the bionicles section tbh
Wow ! This is great ! If this was a full length movie I would go watch it in theaters. Great job, I like how movements are very smooth, keep up the great work 👍
This was great!
I love this so much! I love how much work, and just passion you put into what you create
How does this not have more views I mean omg this is amazing stop motion I can’t imagine how hard this was to make!!
Thank you so much! I'm with you on that one. The problem with original stories, though, is that no one searches "Big Hal's Junkyard" when they want to watch a video. They'll search "Halo" or something they already know exists.
MootroidXProductions damn I never thought about it like that :(
That dislike was from the giant 🤖 that got killed from big Hal’s junkyard
Charlie, this is beyond incredible. You've really come a long way from Caldwell's... quite inspirational tbh
Sad Nut? Is this Steele?
@@mootroidXproductions indeed!
I like the bionicle aspect
Incredible animation, very well done
PHENOMENAL JOB!
Those models look SOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOL!!!!!
Voice acting and music are on point too! :D
finally, another video from Mootroid. this was awesome
Very original and creative, love it.
I really love this one! If you ever have the time it would be awesome to see a tutorial by you. :-)
Same
As always impressive! Love the robot figures!
That was awesome man I’m so proud of you
I have been watching since 2012 and I still love your work
Omg thank you
This looks really good
Holy crap it's so good. Having a fun time spotting all the Bionicle bits
Beautifully animated. The character and set designs are awesome
That's soooo cool! I love stop motion, and this, this shows how cool it is! Great Job!
Your back I loved your last colony
Trying something new? Looks great!!!
Stop motion is so underrated it's not even funny
It’s quite hilarious to me
This had to be very difficult for you and it turned out to be a great video, tell me, how long did it take you to do this
Thanks! Only one month, considering I was able to work on it during class. It's all in the description.
Dude your vids are always the best kept the good work👍🔥❤️
I actually laughed when they picked up a few of the other bot's pieces lol
Great work! Hope the algorithms are good to you
Really creative work. I would like this as a series. You always do awesome
I like the Khanoi Vahi cameo.
Amazing work
how do you make this beautiful animation? are just cables with bionicle parts?
that was amazing
You don't mess with Big Hal
0:57 *don't touch my amazing boom boom diamond or I like ya cute g*
You used lego studs for eyes, very clever
This is amazing!!!!!
absolutely amazing
I bloody love this keep it up
Due to current trends/products, I thought this would be completely different. But it was amazing none the less.
oh heck yeah thank you dude
So nice!
Smooth animation, great idea. I love it
Nicely done
this gives me waste land vibes
Amazing
Did you make those robots? They look AWESOME. I would love a whole series on that main robot.
Thanks! They're made of armature wire, epoxy putty, and various bits of junk I've accumulated. Unfortunately I doubt I'll make anything else with them, as wire puppets don't last much longer than a few minutes of animation.
That was SO COOL! So creative and funny. Great action all the way, loved the voices too. I do have to ask, though.. WHERE'D YOU GET ALL THE TRINKET STUFF?
Thanks! I usually save old broken things- toys, phones, cameras, consoles- just in case I need some scrap parts someday.
@@mootroidXproductions Smart man, Smart man.
Awesome
So cool
Amazing👍👍👍👍👍
A little smoother, and this would have been a masterpiece! I know smoothness wasn't really the goal. It's just that it was just hard for me to understand what was going on in the fight because of the lack in frames. Other than that, outstanding!
Honestly, I think the biggest issue with the clarity of the fight scene is that the characters' silhouettes get muddled with the background because everything's the same color. If I'd framed the shots a little wider and added some color to the characters, it would be a lot easier to follow. And yeah, bumping the frame rate up from 12 to about 15 would have definitely helped too.
Out of curiosity, which part of the fight was the worst for you? I'd say it's probably the part where Keith picks up the blade before spinning it, and then when Slappy tangles the blade in the wire.
@@mootroidXproductions 0:57 I think the change in camera angle did it to. Like you said before, everything is pretty much the same color, so it's also a little hard to tell when the camera changes position.
Guys just watch. last colany was great but he cant do them every week give him a break
nice
i love all your vids and great work
I LOVE Your sound fxs
