Washington’s refusal to become king is often seen as a moment of rare humility, but I think it runs deeper. He understood power not just as something to reject, but as something that must be distributed for a republic to survive. The Revolution wasn’t just against British rule-it was a rejection of concentrated, hereditary power itself. Even if Washington had been tempted, it would have undermined everything they fought for. What fascinates me is how much of this was shaped by a collective, almost instinctive, American mindset. The people didn’t just avoid monarchy-they embraced a new, radical form of self-rule.
From the US, I've always thought of Washington as the model to emulate for all politicians (at least in the US). Washington took up power with the consent of those he led and willingly stepped down from power because he had faith in the system he helped craft. It is an election year in the US, and most politicians seem so unworthy of their power and position, I get the impression that many would never abdicate their power if the law didn't require it. That's the difference for me: Washington almost didn't want to lead, but did so for the common good.
The country has become far more diverse in race, creed, morality, and ideology that the Founding Fathers neither anticipated nor would have supported it. It has become too unstable for anyone to govern themselves and too many people who caree only about power with no responsibility have infiltrated many institutions in the last 150 years. This shows a major weakness of democracy and republicanism when it's debatable on whether society that is extremely diverse can be called a stable society.
The United States lucked out massively having a man like George Washington at the healm. Meanwhile, modern China had Mao Zedong. And that's why I'm forever grateful my parents emigrated from China and I was born in the US.

Another I'm curious to know: if Washington isn't interested in taking a crown, then why doesn't the US have a parliament and a prime minister? Wouldn't things be more efficient that way? Plus, I know the US was just newly established, the US wasn't as prospering and having that kind of finesse culture and wealth the Europeans had and ways to establish a more thriving and cultural society, similarly to the Europeans. That is what I think, but what you think?
Because that would have gone against everything America had just fought for to achieve independence. America had already fought to achieve independence from a parliamentary system basically, why go back to it? The parliamentary system for many nations today is way different from what it was back then. Americans desired a more republican form of government with stronger separation of powers and the US constitution had already set it up basically. It was simply better to create a new government from enlightened ideals. A Federal Representative Republic, one that’s presidential with a congress rather than a prime minister and a parliament.
Americans don't want to be like the Europeans. Americans are individualist and meritocratic; Europeans are collectivist and blindly entrust power in an established political class. The real shame is that Europe and their "progressives" have hard pushed America to be like them, and it started to work because of people like Woodrow Wilson the corruptor-in-chief.
