- I pass Carrigafoyle Castle and stay on Carraig Island. This is a beautiful wee landmass on the Shannon estuary and close by is a small gate to commemorate Brendan Kennelly who was an Irish poet and novelist. Watch until the end for what felt like a very relevant and apt moment in terms of the past couple of days of my walk…

I was there!!! Thanks to you. Slept just round that corner, where you said boats would dock. Met a lovely man who said he visited it regularly and that he and his son would have a meal at the top. Looking out through the hole that cromwells cannon destroyed.

I know that its been awhile since this video was posted , but I was touched by what you talked about in the video before , after being with your family. They belive you belong to them amd yet they do care about you. BUT THE WORLD YOU HAVE TOUCHED FEEL YOU BELONG TO ALL OF US TOO.

People are great aren't they.i was in that castle during the summer and it just blew me away I really enjoyed it,it was open and you could go up the steps right to the top its a beautiful peace of history well worth the visit. Good man Derek you are a savage man you really are you have a great gift and a great way of communicating with us.Thank you.

Beautiful video (and sentiments), Derek. That was very touching (what Kay said to you). You're so right that we're lacking in encouragement these days for one another. It makes a difference when we can pay it forward, bit by bit. And that's what you do for us! You encourage us to get grounded, stay centered, take joy in the simple things in life (like that morning light through the trees or a poem from Brendan Kennelly)."We must try again to begin." I think that Poem was first said in 1997 on the late late show in dedication to a Women who just lost her daughter, Gay called a person who won a car where her Daughter was killed the previous night in a car crash, look for Brendan Kenelly late late show.
