      @@CorneliusQuiring, I loved the video. It seems like you had to move the camera a hundred times. Does anyone help you with measuring and marking for finishing touches like hem length? Did you do these in just one day? Anyway, the background sounds toward the end were pleasant and it seemed perfect for the anticipation of a completed job that was well done. I do like that feeling.

    Hey Cornelius
    I subscribed to your channel a couple of years ago and life goes on and I saw you in my list and decided to have a watch and now you're a master tailor getting 10,000 views
    Your sewing is incredible I kept saying "oh my god" out loud at the expertise you've achieved since your earlier videos!
    You should be so proud of yourself
    There's a comment somewhere from about two years where I predicted your videos would grow popular
    It was so obvious because you're such a character and so charismatic and natural
    It's made my day

      Thanks for being one of the early supporters! I really do appreciate it.

      I recommend a lesson an experienced teacher told me. Get a piece of lined paper and use it to 'sew' on. Don't put any thread in your machine, just use the lined paper as the fabric and sew a straight stitch following the lines. Do the same with any shape you want to draw - blank paper draw curves or circles. Practice. It works.

    This is such a well put together video, from the shot setup to even the motion design. I think it's amazing how you captured the entire process. It just shows how much love you have for tailoring. My only question is (and I know it is something outside of the realm of the video), how did you go about creating your original guides and patterns? What is a resource you used or tips you would give to someone wanting to create their own guides for pieces? Also are there any resources/books that you read about men's tailoring that helped you hash out the steps needed to create the correct fit for clothes, or is it something you have discovered more with trial and error? Either way, fantastic work. Keep it up!

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  4 роки тому

      Thank you for the kind words!
      It's really been a process of trial and error. I started by downloading a pants template off of freesewing.org and sewed it. Then I tweaked it until I got it to fit me well.
      I have also in the past bought pants from the thrift store that I though fit well and took them apart so I could copy the pattern.
      I hope that helps.

      @@CorneliusQuiring Question. Did you add zigzag stitching at the very end of the front pleats? I couldn't totally tell. I'd figure yes since it would be a stress point, but I thought I'd ask.

      I do not have any videos on stretching and steaming fabrics. That is certainly an interesting technique though to essentially mould & shape fabric. I haven't done too much of it but may do a video eventually when I feel more confident in my technique.

    You did a great job! So I attempted to make pants last year but the sizing of the legs turned out too slim. How do you ensure that the pattern size is correct before cutting the material?

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  3 роки тому +1

      Well congrats on giving it a go. A good rule of thumb would be following:
      1. Measure the circumference of your thighs.
      2. Add about 3 - 4 inches for room so they aren't skin tight.
      3. Now add another 1.5 inches for seam allowance.
      4. Finally, divide by 2 and you have a good width for the 2 pieces of each leg.
      As well, it's always easier to size down than up, so don't be afraid of making the pattern pieces bigger than you think you need them.
      I hope that makes sense & helps.
