Interviewer, "You've played the same thing over and over on 11 albums, yet you've sold millions. To what do you attribute your success?" Angus Young, "It's 12 albums, actually."
Don't worry.... everyone does. Then they say playing it is "easy" when they play it wrong.Nobody uses the f sharp m 7 like you're supposed to.This guy does it right
I like your tutorials because they are direct and complete. A lot of these tutorials are too slow and they ramble too much. Thanks. One thing that I would like to mention to help anyone out there who is finding the main riff kind of "too many flailing fingers..." I played this song in a band and learned the main riff, the way on the tutorial, and then the other guitarist came over and he was very familiar with it. The trick is to USE YOUR THUMB to finger the low F#.... So basically, that (along with thumb), reduces the movement to : A D G .... which is the whole song..... It makes it a MILLION times easier.... Happy learning... Thanks again
+Nonya Bizniss yeah I play it that way to.. just decided to use angus' fingering for the lesson.. it would depend on how comfortable you are using your thumb on the low E I guess
it's definitely easier for me to play it the way Carl treaches it here. The A string gets properly muted that way and I don't have to "flail" any fingers lol
Another great lesson from you. Played it constantly for about 20minutes and now it's sounding good. Using the pinky was a bit wierd for me so I used my ring/long finger instead for the riff.
great video, thanks! Quick note on the tuning on the original version. We were all using those Conn Strobotuners back then, and the trick was to detune to "430" (A=440hz standard) Basically it almost a half step, but not quite there.
Hey Carl, I wanna thank you so much for your lessons. I learnt a lot of musics with you since this quarantine began (Outshined, Disposable Heroes, War Ensemble, Painkiller, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Highway to Hell [on the way]). Also I wolud like to ask you to record some musics from the brazilian band Sepultura (Inner Self, Dead Embryonic Cells, Arise, amongst others). Thank you and Let's Rock!!!
fun fact about this song, it wasn't at the half step down tuning, it's at some other weird kind of tuning between standard and half step down, same with Photograph by Def Leppard, and a few more AC/DC songs
Almost all the Bon Scott songs are tuned down a 1/4 step. There are few a exceptions like Girls Got Rhythm tuned to standard and Night Prowler tuned a 1/2 step down.
Not mentioned here, but it is key, is the timing - the riff starts on the 'and' of three. Once you lock that in, it makes playing it a whole lot tighter.
So did Malcolm play the chorus part during Angus’s solo to end of song? I can’t quite make it out. I got the intro down, working on cleaning up the chorus. :)
Just wanted to say that AC/DC used regular E standard tuning. They did some weird stuff in post with the original record (speeding some songs up and slowing others down). In my experience if you wanna sound like the original record, you need to tune down around 40 clicks from standard (it's not an entire half step).
I tried using the 3rd finger, but it's close to impossible on both hands. I guess i am using it so little during regular life i dont really have much control over it. But using the middle finger works.
the one guy I've seen on YT actually playing it right- no one else plays Df# for the 2nd phrase, they just replay the A power chord, which is wrong. BUT- the G5 is played as an up stroke.

I like this channel, have subscribed for some time now, enjoy all the lessons, but every time I look at him it's like his soul is missing or something yet he rocks it anyway...Greetings to all!!!!!
Lol i have the exact same attitude when it comes to tuning down for a song here and there. "Not doing it." Most of my main jams are in standard and Metallica has kind of turned me into a standard tuning purist lol.
Look up Solo Dallas. He is an AC/DC tone fanatic and built a unit for Angus that Angus used on the last couple tours. He breaks down everything you need to know about AC/DC's tone and amps that they used during each period of the band.
jeroen van der bijl I already have lessons for Thunderstruck in its entirety. Check out my AC/DC playlist. :) ua-cam.com/play/PLOBqO_KghqI4SJodgFfbx4ZPx9tU2P0Zv.html
Carl you are amazing. I love your lessons. I need to seriously make a small donation on my behalf. I have learned to much from you here on You tube! Where can I make a contribution??
licksnkicks Hey thanks a bunch for the support. I have a donate page on my main site guitarlessons365 (dot) com where you can contribute if you would like to. I really appreciate it! :)

...
He was just being self effacing. They didn't do that until after Flick of the switch
After watching this I realised I've been playing Highway to Hell incorrectly for 10 years. Great video Carl.
me too!! after the A, I do like the G power chord but my index finger up on the 2nd fret to give it that distorted sound!
- took me 30. (!!! )

Dude. Unreal, thank you so much. This just made it way easier and smoother almost instantly. Gonna show my buddies how much easier this way is!
You should do more AC/DC videos

Tuning: Half step down (D#)
Lesson Timing:
Intro - 1:09
Chorus - 2:44
Rhythm Guitar on solo - 4:01

Sepultura would be awesome! Also if you can play disposable heroes you should have no problem with this one lol
Thanks! Especially for keeping it in standard tuning!
fun fact about this song, it wasn't at the half step down tuning, it's at some other weird kind of tuning between standard and half step down, same with Photograph by Def Leppard, and a few more AC/DC songs
Dawson Oickle I

Thanks for the right chord, well done video
always great and precise content! Thanks
Carl You are the best man!!!! Thanks for the work you put up.
I've always played the F# bass note by fretting it with my thumb. That works for me.
Really helping to make my family's happy

Wow! Thank you for sharing your impressive lessons.
hey Carl you are the man
When I hear this song, I just wanna go full Jack Black!
Best guitar lessons 👌👍
I wrap my thumb at the second fret for that F/D chord.
I tried using the 3rd finger, but it's close to impossible on both hands.
I guess i am using it so little during regular life i dont really have much control over it.
But using the middle finger works.
Yo what’s the guitar you’re using?
Are they the same chords as used in best of both worlds from van halen? It sounds like both intro's are family
Thank you so much
Ur welcome my friend
+Moses Ching he wasnt talking to you dude
Could you make some ac/dc solo lessons please or complete songs please? U're Great!!
Marc Cremers All the AC/DC solo lessons will go live this weekend.. Stay tuned!
GuitarLessons365Song 'Stay Tuned' Loving the pun xD
hi there what r ur amp settings please?
Are u still holding the third fret with ur pinkie when going from the #f bass d chord to the g bass note?
Sorry if smone has already asked it but what r the amp settings for this? Bass and treble pls
Great lesson, but it's actually 1/4 step down
But there's backing tracks in standard so it doesn't matter
the one guy I've seen on YT actually playing it right- no one else plays Df# for the 2nd phrase, they just replay the A power chord, which is wrong.
BUT- the G5 is played as an up stroke.
How would I go about tuning down a half step? Is there like a tuner or something?
yes bro just remove the space after trufire link truefire .com/guitar-tuner/?gclid=Cj0KEQiAiO-kBRCNxtaJp4-En6sBEiQAnkvW37zUNr253y2OaCVBXXAO79PIfdS_jVJV9acwfdT_yQQaAoHu8P8HAQ
Micheal Fz Thanks!
U can put capo on 1st fret if you have one
Two years later..but...that would make it tuned "up" a half step.
Hey carl can you do life is a highway by rascal flatts?

Nice thx

Could you do a video of embryonic journey?
What electric guitar+amp do you use?
how do I get the exact sound
Look up Solo Dallas. He is an AC/DC tone fanatic and built a unit for Angus that Angus used on the last couple tours. He breaks down everything you need to know about AC/DC's tone and amps that they used during each period of the band.
you re great teacher
nice guitar
how do you do an A power chord?
That's only 4 string on the 2 Fret
thanks
Like most Bon Scott songs the tuning is a 1/4 step down. Great lesson though!
Hi Carl.
Заглушка чисто не работает у меня, не чакает так чисто, почему?
i wish you would show us how to finger the chords
Do thunderstruck
yes please.
jeroen van der bijl I already have lessons for Thunderstruck in its entirety. Check out my AC/DC playlist. :) ua-cam.com/play/PLOBqO_KghqI4SJodgFfbx4ZPx9tU2P0Zv.html
hi Carl
pleaseee pleasse the best of times :3
The tuning is slightly flat
You look an awful lot like Keanu Reeves. And I only mean it as a compliment.
Its a actually a quarter step down from standard
you should show tab at the bottom
Great guitar but a shame for your Merchandise
Just learning this so I don’t play stairway to heaven

People quit asking Carl to do more songs for you! Be thankful for what he has already done for you. And it's free here! Demanding people, seriously?
the point of it is to request songs and he does some of the requests...
