    Interviewer, "You've played the same thing over and over on 11 albums, yet you've sold millions. To what do you attribute your success?"
    Angus Young, "It's 12 albums, actually."

    After watching this I realised I've been playing Highway to Hell incorrectly for 10 years. Great video Carl.

      me too!! after the A, I do like the G power chord but my index finger up on the 2nd fret to give it that distorted sound!

      Don't worry.... everyone does.Then they say playing it is "easy" when they play it wrong.Nobody uses the f sharp m 7 like you're supposed to.This guy does it right

    I like your tutorials because they are direct and complete. A lot of these tutorials are too slow and they ramble too much. Thanks.
    One thing that I would like to mention to help anyone out there who is finding the main riff kind of "too many flailing fingers..."
    I played this song in a band and learned the main riff, the way on the tutorial, and then the other guitarist came over and he was very familiar with it.
    The trick is to USE YOUR THUMB to finger the low F#.... So basically, that (along with thumb), reduces the movement to :
    A D G .... which is the whole song..... It makes it a MILLION times easier....
    Happy learning...
    Thanks again

      +Nonya Bizniss yeah I play it that way to.. just decided to use angus' fingering for the lesson.. it would depend on how comfortable you are using your thumb on the low E I guess

      @trucksguns6898 7 років тому

      it's definitely easier for me to play it the way Carl treaches it here. The A string gets properly muted that way and I don't have to "flail" any fingers lol

      Dude. Unreal, thank you so much. This just made it way easier and smoother almost instantly. Gonna show my buddies how much easier this way is!

    Another great lesson from you. Played it constantly for about 20minutes and now it's sounding good. Using the pinky was a bit wierd for me so I used my ring/long finger instead for the riff.

    great video, thanks! Quick note on the tuning on the original version. We were all using those Conn Strobotuners back then, and the trick was to detune to "430" (A=440hz standard) Basically it almost a half step, but not quite there.

  • @robsoncandidosilva
    @robsoncandidosilva 4 роки тому +1

    Tuning: Half step down (D#)
    Lesson Timing:
    Intro - 1:09
    Chorus - 2:44
    Rhythm Guitar on solo - 4:01

      Hey Carl, I wanna thank you so much for your lessons. I learnt a lot of musics with you since this quarantine began (Outshined, Disposable Heroes, War Ensemble, Painkiller, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Highway to Hell [on the way]). Also I wolud like to ask you to record some musics from the brazilian band Sepultura (Inner Self, Dead Embryonic Cells, Arise, amongst others). Thank you and Let's Rock!!!

    fun fact about this song, it wasn't at the half step down tuning, it's at some other weird kind of tuning between standard and half step down, same with Photograph by Def Leppard, and a few more AC/DC songs

      Almost all the Bon Scott songs are tuned down a 1/4 step. There are few a exceptions like Girls Got Rhythm tuned to standard and Night Prowler tuned a 1/2 step down.

    Not mentioned here, but it is key, is the timing - the riff starts on the 'and' of three. Once you lock that in, it makes playing it a whole lot tighter.

    So did Malcolm play the chorus part during Angus’s solo to end of song? I can’t quite make it out. I got the intro down, working on cleaning up the chorus. :)

    Just wanted to say that AC/DC used regular E standard tuning. They did some weird stuff in post with the original record (speeding some songs up and slowing others down). In my experience if you wanna sound like the original record, you need to tune down around 40 clicks from standard (it's not an entire half step).

    I tried using the 3rd finger,but it's close to impossible on both hands.
    I guess i am using it so little during regular life i dont really have much control over it.
    But using the middle finger works.

    the one guy I've seen on YT actually playing it right- no one else plays Df# for the 2nd phrase, they just replay the A power chord, which is wrong.
    BUT- the G5 is played as an up stroke.

      Look up Solo Dallas. He is an AC/DC tone fanatic and built a unit for Angus that Angus used on the last couple tours. He breaks down everything you need to know about AC/DC's tone and amps that they used during each period of the band.
