And I did exactly what the song says. Anyway... So much about my. I'd like to thank you very much for your comment containing your extremely accurate summation of a broken heart in three minutes and 15 seconds . ElTouroFogoso Oh, yes, goodness, I have been listening to this beautiful version for years. Pretty much to my knowledge I am about the only you tuber in my circle, but I can always "share". And thank you.
You’re so very welcome Patricia. It was a pleasure. And I, as an so called ‘Old foogie’, have lost count of how many times, in my lifetime, I’ve sat in the dark (Even to this day) with a bottle of beer or a glass of wine and listened to this song. And even how many tears I've shed listening to it. So, keep on YouTubing, even if you may be considered the ‘Black Sheep’ in your circle. HAHAHA! And finally, I must thank YOU! For your interesting comment. It opened up a floodgate of a whole bunch of memories. lol PS: Oh, and by the way, by some strange coincident, I at one time, did so happen to live about 50 feet away from a railroad track. So, I do happen to absolutle know what that dang ol’ lonesome train whistle sounds like… lol And worse, what it feels like to have your house ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’ whenever the train passed by… lmao!
originally was done by Hank Williams many many years ago who sang so many sad songs of course he had that country twang which keeps us from listening to a lot of stuff today but he died on stage singing a sad song has his life was a mess And son is Hank Williams Junior songs by Hank Williams and one of them is poor old kalija that's going way back I'm too young for that but my grandmother played them I remember them as a little kid
Yes indeed Raven. Hank Williams did sing this song many years ago and while I enjoyed the way he sang it, I must admit that I like this cover version by BJ Tomas better, because of his very soulful voice, and because he sings it with a great deal of emotion. Bu on the other hand, I'd like to thank you very much for your very interesting and informative comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the song enough to leave your comment. And if you haven't done it yet, I would appreciate it very much, if you would please, tell your family and all of your friends about this video, all my other videos and of my channel. Thank you very much for your comment Samuel. I am sure that there are quite a few other songs you could say the same thing about. But... I tend to agree with you. I'm glad you enjoyed the song enough to leave a comment. And I'd appreciate it very much, if you would please, tell your family and all of your friends about my videos and channel. With gratitude, ElTouroFogoso
Hi Samuel, it is definitely a sad song, but it is one of the iconic songs in Country Music history. There never has been a more iconic figure in Country Music than Hank Williams--and, rightly so. However, the voice quality of B J Thomas is irrefutable--'he owns this song'. I don't know that I have ever heard a 'pop' singer with a more powerful voice, with more range. B J Thomas was, as probably still is ICONIC--baggies of coke not withstanding.
I totally agree Samuel, A very sad song indeed. And thank you all for your comments. You B J Clark for your very informative and intuitive comment. And ';Dido'; to you Don. I've always preferred listening to the song by B. J. Thomas. So yes, especially when it is sung by B. J. Thomas. I'm really glad you all enjoyed the song enough to leave a comment. And I would appreciate it very much, if you would please, tell your family and all of your friends about this video, all my other videos and of my channel. With gratitude, ElTouroFogoso
AAAhhh... truly saddens me to learn that Gail. I sincerely hope and I will pray that things start to turn out better for you very soon. But. thank you for your comment. It's very much appreciated. Sincerely and with gratitude, ElTouroFogoso
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion. I find that sad, however. I understand that the voice is technically better, and the production much smoother and cleaner. But the only part of this version that compells me to occasionally revisit, is the outro... giving it a climax, that is not attempted in the original , or in Hank Jr's version. But I much prefer the original, pure, vulnerable, soulful versions of this, and most other songs. There are always exceptions. But covers usually come in behind the originals, with me. And Hank is certainly not one to be trifled with. Ha, ha.
Thank you very much for your very informative comment Sally. I'm really glad you enjoyed the song enough to leave your comment. And I would appreciate it very much, if you would please, tell your family and all of your friends about this video, all my other videos and of my channel. With gratitude, ElTouroFogoso

Here is what a whippoorwill is Aztec Warrior... lternative Title: Caprimulgus vociferus Whippoorwill, (Caprimulgus vociferus), nocturnal bird of North America belonging to the family Caprimulgidae (see caprimulgiform) and closely resembling the related common nightjar of Europe. It is named for its vigorous deliberate call (first and third syllables accented), which it may repeat 400 times without stopping. It lives in woods near open country, where it hawks for insects around dusk and dawn; by day it sleeps on the forest floor or perches lengthwise on a branch. About 24 cm (9 1/2 inches) long, it has mottled brownish plumage with, in the male, a white collar and white tail corners; the female’s tail is plain and her collar is buffy. The whippoorwill breeds from southeastern Canada throughout the eastern United States and from the southwestern United States throughout Mexico, wintering as far south as Costa Rica. I hope this helps... ElTouroFogoso

I played this song much after my first real love and I broke up.
written by Hank Williams Sr. heavy influenced by Mississippi Blues
Yeah, I know. And great song. Brings back a lot of memories of the 60s and 70s. Both bad and good... mostly good tho. :-)
And whose songs were covered by many blues artists.
This is an homage to Irish/ Scot balladry. Listen to the sad beautiful melodies of ancient Celts and you know exactly where this tune came from.
Dare I say, that I think BJ Thomas' version is better than Hank Williams'....or any other version for that matter?
Yes! Please do!...
ElTouroFogoso I was afraid to post that comment lol But,I went ahead and did it anyway lol
Well, thumbs up to you Don. Feels good don't it??? lmao
I'm with you "Brother"
