6:41 when things work out... Isn't that the truth - I snicker too.

You *scraped* the contacts 😳?! No no no no no !!!! The intermittent operation isn't caused by "dirt", nor "dust" (the control is well sealed), it is caused by oxidation, aka tarnish. Clean the silicone grease off carefully with Q-tips and a gentle solvent, and polish the contacts and wipers with a pencil eraser. Apply a thin film of clear transistor-heatsink grease to the rotary disc, just a whisper of it, and reassemble. I have refurbished many of these.

    Hey mate, great video.
Any idea what causes the push function to fail on some of these?

I need to replace the rotary encoder on the head unit in my car. The unit is a HH156 CSK 9711D, manufactured by Clarion. The rotor has broken off the stem, and the pins themselves aren't in great condition. I'm trying to figure out exactly what rotary encoder I should replace it with.... any suggestions would be appreciated.

My amp is not that erratic, but it's not perfect either. I might open it up sometime in the near future.
