  • I was luckily enough to pick this up but found the volume control wheel wasn't functioning properly. This video shows how to open the system, remove the front panel, release the circuit board and open the rotary encoder.
    The original lubricant inside the encoder is cleaned out and fresh lubricant applied.
    The Denon UD-M3 is very well built and a nice piece of equipment to work on.

    Great fix. It sounds great. Denon is excellent quality audio. I remember using Denon CD cart players when I worked in radio in the early 1990s.

      It's nicely built inside. What did you do in radio?

      @@PhilipBryden I started as an on-air operator (pre-computer automation early 90s). I would Play music via Denon CD carts, and use Reel to Reel tapes for the pre-recorded announcer breaks and commercial breaks. Then I was a radio announcer for a few years after that.

      I googled CD carts. Why does the CD have to be in a case? Just to protect it?

      @@PhilipBryden The cart idea was not new in radio in the 90s. For years they used tape carts for 30/60 second advert spots (called Fidelipac and they look like 8 track tapes). Along with protecting the CD, the CD cart was easy to use. Just put it into the cart machine dial up the track and push play.

      I'm good thanks Matthew. Like I said in the video, this one is surprisingly heavy for it's size. It's a shame I don't have a use for it. The older stuff looks better too IMO.

      Thanks Mike. At least they designed it to be fairly accessible.

      It's a very nice piece of equipment. The sad thing is, nowadays, unless you can connect it to the internet and speak to it, people don't want it.

      @@PhilipBryden I want it specifically because it doesn't connect to the internet or have a microphone :D

      I bought a Kenwood stereo amp years ago, sounds great and still works as it did when I first bought it. I'm going to look out for Hi Fi stuff.

      @@PhilipBryden good on you, the old classic equipment is the best, you might be lucky and get an old valve amp one day 😁

      @PhilipBryden  5 місяців тому

      I probably would pass on the old valve stuff, can you actually buy replacement valves? They're probably cost a small fortune.
