I brought a friend who was visiting to FMB & Lovers Key this weekend. She was so impressed I knew the names of all the shells we were finding, I told her it’s from watching your channel! :-)
Well if that isn't awesome, I don't know what is! I'm so happy you're learning about the amazing shells we have down here. I can't get enough! Thanks so much for watching!
I would love to find only 1 Sand Dollar.Oh well when this lockdown is done we need to go back to the beach. Watching you from Montreal, Quebec Canada. Thank you for this sane moment.
We found one single sand dollar the first time we visited here. You would have thought we found a huge gold nugget from the way we carried on about it. I had never found one before and I remember the feeling - it was awesome! I hope after this lockdown is over you will get your beach time and find tons of sand dollars. Bring a hard plastic container to protect them! Thanks for watching!
I might ask my mom if I can go to the beaches you go to, but after covid! Maybe after covid, we will start going to the beach way often, and finally travel! Because I never went on a plane yet. I know, that's kinda crazy! But maybe when I'm 11 or 12 I'll visit islands that are fun. Hopefully my headaches I get from excitement will go away soon , because maybe I'll be going to... DISNEY LAND! Yes, whenever I get excited my head starts to hurt, then I get sick. Hate when that happens.
I went to Disneyland a few times when I was younger but since I'm on the East Coast, Disney World is a lot closer for me :) I can certainly see why you would get excited about that - I love all things Disney too. I'm sorry to hear about your headaches and I too hope you get to go shelling after covid! Thanks for being a part of my channel ❤
I get the itch to go shelling again, and then remember I have thousands...So, I watch you and go with my son when he comes to visit. You put out great videos.
Thank you so much! I've only been at this about a year, so I don't have a massive collection. Yet. I can see it getting completely out of hand so I'm trying to manage my goodies as I go. The last time I organized my shells was an all day affair! Thank you so much for watching!
Awww - thank you so much! It was a really good shelling day for sure. It's been a SLOW summer and hoping winter will bring all the goodies back! Thank you for watching!
A live spiny jewel box, awesome. It was definitely your day for banded tulips and sand dollars. Love that gorgeous rose pink shell. That was stunning. Lovely beach walk. Thanks for another great shelling video.
I had so much fun on this particular walk! I feel like the shells have not been so plentiful and this morning I hit the jackpot! Thanks so much for coming along with me!
Thank you so much for your videos. I used to love going to the beach until health issues stopped me. I love the way you take the time to give the names of the shells. Best shell videos by far!
If your sand dollar breaks I’ve always loved finding and collecting the white doves inside. I have some sea biscuits, but they’ve never broken so I don’t know if they have the doves inside or not. I just love watching your shows. They give me some peaceful relaxing time. ♥️🐌🦀🐬🦑
What a great question! I think in theory the sea biscuits should have the "doves" since they're in the urchin family but I don't know for sure. Something else to discover in the future perhaps. Thank you so much for coming along with me on my beach walks!
the older faded Alphabet cones can be left out in direct sunlight and go back when it's dark and shine a black light on them. They glow in the dark! It is so cool. Learned that on Paleo Chris youtube channel. He is also in Florida, not sure where. He finds crystalized fossils that are gorgeous. You had a good day, I'm saving all your travel videos to make plans for my trip in April 2021!
April 2021 will be here before you know it! And now I want to try the black light thing myself. I'll have to ask Mr. SWF if we have one! Thanks for watching and please feel free to ask me any questions as you're planning your trip!
Wasn't it weird and cool at the same time? It definitely looked gummy - these creatures never stop amazing me! Thank you for coming along with me again!
I follow an instagram account of an Australian sheller and holy moly you guys have crazy awesome shells! I'd love to visit one day in the future and see for myself. I'm happy I can get you to the beach over here and share all the cool things I find! Thank you so much for watching!
You have such a sweet voice and a passion for shelling....I have most of my life...the scallops r so colorful in FL....would love to make it back down there just for those but of course there's the big horse conch. Thnx for the lovely walk..look forward to the next
Thanks for coming along with me! I was shelling over the weekend and not finding much of anything. I stopped a fellow sheller to see if she was finding anything and she said there were tons of shells all over the beach! She was picking up everything and anything so I gave her the few shells I had managed to find. She was so excited - I love sharing, especially if it's with someone who doesn't get to the beach as often as I do :) Thank you so much for coming along with me!
Very cool finds! That horse conch is not an albino. It looks like it just lost it's colors while tumbling around in the surf, so I think it's just a regular faded one. Fingers crossed for a giant one some day! They are out there!!
Really fantastic video! I’m so envious of your perfect shelling day. Great finds! Love the baby horse conch. Gotta go to Marco island. Telling hubby we are goin for an excursion. 🤣🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚 keep on shelling!!!!
Great video! Yes, that looked like an albino horse conchs at the beginning and, yes, that was a chestnut turban. WHEN you come up north you will see the huge variety of colors and patterns they have. That alphabet cone was gorgeous. I've never seen one that dark! And tulip after tulip.... Thanks!
I literally was thinking of coming up and realized it was like a 2.5 hour drive one-way. Doable, but it will take a little planning. I want to find a chestnut turban operculum! I've never found one...yet :) Thanks for coming along with me once again!!!
That moon shell knocked me out too! And the colors & patterns on the scallops were some of the prettiest I've seen you get in one trip. The olive shells were super glossy this time as well-- What a wonderful Sunday!
It was so much fun!!! This time I was rewarded for traveling a little bit and paying attention to the tides. I wish every shelling walk was like this one - but luck plays a huge part. Thanks so much for coming along with me!
Great assortment of beautiful shells! I love watching your videos...just can't get enough. I really love the scallops. They are all so different in color and absolutely beautiful! Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you so much! I was pretty lucky this particular morning. And I love those colorful scallops too! Can never have too many 😉 Thank you for coming along with me on my walk!
Love the rose petal tellins, as always. I'm amazed at how bright pink and different they are compared to the coloring of most other shells. That live spiny jewel box was my favorite of your finds. I've been wondering what they look like alive, and now I know! Thank you!
Wasn't that jewelbox cool? And I don't normally pick up too many of those rose petal tellins but that particular one was pretty big. Thank you so much for letting me share my walk with you!
I'm sorry you didn't get to come down here this fall! Many people had their plan disrupted and it's such a bummer. I'll keep taking you to the beach virtually until you can get back here yourself :) Thanks for watching!
Cool finds! I can't believe how many sand dollars there were! I rarely see them here at St. Augustine beach. Sometimes I find them at Crescent Beach, but not in the numbers you do! Amazing!
It was probably the most sand dollars I've ever found in one day - well, keepers anyway. I tend to find lots of live ones over on Fort Myers Beach. It was so fun!!! Thanks so much for coming along with me!
I do not do shelling tours but maybe one day....If you see a lady with an orange shell bag over one shoulder stop her - it could be me! Thanks so much for watching!
I rarely find them attached like that, which is why I picked it up in the first place. I was rewarded with getting the opportunity to see the critter - so cool! Thanks so much for coming along with me!
I get asked that question a lot!! I show at the end of this video some of the things we've done with shells: ua-cam.com/video/d7SmDUcvdjU/v-deo.html And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: ua-cam.com/video/Mf5SVm8m5n8/v-deo.html I have a few more projects I'd like to tackle - i just need to find the time!!!
I did make a video when I organized my collection. I also show a few ways I display my shells. I hope this answers your questions! ua-cam.com/video/d7SmDUcvdjU/v-deo.html
There is only one other public access beach on South Marco Island. Haven't tried shelling there yet, but I can put it on the list of places to try! Thanks for coming along with me on my Tigertail walk!
I just came across this video that's a year old but on sept 04 2021 on the north side of tiger tail beach i found a 3 inch immaculate condition Junonia shell the finding of a lifetime i was just tagging along with my wife and i just got shelling fever after that finding.
WOW! That's an amazing find! I can see how that would turn a casual sheller into someone that really enjoys the hunt! I haven't found one yet, but I hope eventually I'll find one of those gems!
This was so fun. The sand dollars and scallops especially catch my attention in this video. Is there a time of the year that shelling is better, or is it all year long? I learn more at each video. thank you!!!
I’ve learned that winter is the best time to shell down here. Go figure! I tend to find shells all year long but in the winter they’re more plentiful due to the winds. I had so much fun in that one spot picking the goodies out of the water - thanks so much for coming along with me!
Question.....i went shelling on a very small beach on the Gulf. There was junk (broken shells, etc), but i saw some pretty shells, the size of augers, that were in about 3 inches in the water. I watched them closely to make sure they weren’t inhabited. I found 4 beautiful ones and wrapped them in a small towel. We took our boat back and i noticed all 4 were moving! Needless to say, we drove back to the beach and i took them back. How can you tell if they are inhabited or not? They can really get inside there! Thank you
You must have gotten "lucky" and found live ones! The only critters I've even found in an Auger were itty bitty hermit crabs - do you think you found live augers or were there little crabs in the shells? I've never seen a live auguer!
@@SWFBeachLife Thank u so much for answering my question. I don’t think they were crabs, kind-of snails, but more timid. They are happy now, back where they belong!
I actually have a whole bucket of goodies I need to bleach. I'll put a quick before and after video together - I bleach them and then seal them with a 1/2 white glue + 1/2 water solution. The sand dollars I find are relatively fragile and I feel like they will just turn to dust if I don't seal them after I bleach them!
You’re not kidding! Hubby wasn’t comfortable with that so we walked around. Plus I found the other parking area there at Tigertail which brings you closer to the beach. I still think your method is quickest!
@@SWFBeachLife I hate doing it, I cringe when I go into the water, but we live in CA and come to Marco a couple times a year( we'll be back in less than 3 weeks). I just suck it up and do it. The last time we were there in September, a little kid was stung ( by sea lice)in the lagoon. He was screaming bloody murder.
@@Randilynn66 Dang! Have you tried parking at the other end of the lot? I’m on my phone and not easy to send you a link but I went back and parked all the way to the left of the lot in the back. Took a bunch of time off schlepping all the way to the beach and didn’t have to brave the lagoon! Shelling should be great in a few weeks!
@@SWFBeachLife I know the lot you're speaking about and we have parked there. We stay at a Condo at Angler's cove so the main lot off Hernando is so close for us. My wife is a huge sheller and LOVES Tigertail right after the lagoon. She also goes to Sandollar Split.
@@Randilynn66 I tried the South End of Marco recently and it was awesome! I think next time I’ll walk the whole island - you know, just to make sure I don’t miss anything 🤣
You don’t HAVE to clean them and I try not to bring home ones that are freshly dead so I don’t have to worry about all spines. I do seal my sand dollars to keep them from breaking so I’ll soak them in water with a splash of bleach for 20 minutes and let them dry. Then I paint them with a 50/50 white glue/water solution to give them a little strength. Some can really be quite fragile. Hope this helps!
That was me before I moved here, which is probably part of the reason I make my videos. I wish everyone had the opportunity to get to the beach once in a while and for those who can't get there - I'll bring the beach to you 😊 Thank you for watching!
I can't say for certain, but I feel like the jelly fish are always on top of the sand. I've never seen a half-buried jelly. And fortunate for us, those moon jelly fish aren't dangerous to humans!
We've only found 2 limpets - one was in Venice and can you believe we found another one on FMB? I wasn't making a video but we did find a second one. Those little buggers are scarce over here! XOXO Thank you for watching!!!
@@SWFBeachLife ,Probably because my parents and I found them all in the past 50 years!😆 We've been to Nokomis twice this summer, and I found at least 30 maybe?? But my eyes are always so tuned into what they look like at every angle, and I'll sit on a spot for a good bit looking for them. Thanks for the reply!🙂
I've been to the beach a few times (totally sarcastic - been there hundreds) and if you time it right and head away from beach entrances, you can absolutely have the beach to yourself. You just have to be willing to walk!
Sometimes I do go to the beach but I won't find anything "good." I don't bother sharing those walks - way less exciting than finding cool shells :) Thank you for watching!

The osprey is probably a female. They are larger than the males. They may have a nest nearby in a tall tree. It was a great day all in all.
Do you have to clean sand dollars? If so how do you clean them?
You don’t HAVE to clean them and I try not to bring home ones that are freshly dead so I don’t have to worry about all spines. I do seal my sand dollars to keep them from breaking so I’ll soak them in water with a splash of bleach for 20 minutes and let them dry. Then I paint them with a 50/50 white glue/water solution to give them a little strength. Some can really be quite fragile. Hope this helps!
i wish i was near a beach
That was me before I moved here, which is probably part of the reason I make my videos. I wish everyone had the opportunity to get to the beach once in a while and for those who can't get there - I'll bring the beach to you 😊 Thank you for watching!
Are jelly fish always on top of the sand or can they get burried if still alive?
I can't say for certain, but I feel like the jelly fish are always on top of the sand. I've never seen a half-buried jelly. And fortunate for us, those moon jelly fish aren't dangerous to humans!
What do you do with all your shells? Do you display them?
I recently made a video about what I do with my shells and how I display some of them!

Beautiful shells today! Please pick up some Limpets for me, and give e me a shout out!!
❤❤❤
We've only found 2 limpets - one was in Venice and can you believe we found another one on FMB? I wasn't making a video but we did find a second one. Those little buggers are scarce over here! XOXO Thank you for watching!!!
@@SWFBeachLife ,Probably because my parents and I found them all in the past 50 years!😆 We've been to Nokomis twice this summer, and I found at least 30 maybe?? But my eyes are always so tuned into what they look like at every angle, and I'll sit on a spot for a good bit looking for them. Thanks for the reply!🙂
@@leighanncronin6905 Practice definitely helps! I'll keep on the lookout for them just in case you missed any - LOL!
Yea good luck! All you have to do is sneak in at midnight to get a head start on the 5000 other people that will be walking the beach!
I've been to the beach a few times (totally sarcastic - been there hundreds) and if you time it right and head away from beach entrances, you can absolutely have the beach to yourself. You just have to be willing to walk!
Another u tuber I watch puts the top snails in acid and when you take it out its just the pearly naker left the u tuber is theo kellison
That makes sense. The acid burns away the top layers. I might have a crummy shell I can try that with. Thanks!
Some of them might be "gals" 😉
Yes! In my older videos I almost always referred to the critters as "he." I now try to switch it up!
Your lucky the othe shelling on UA-cam come there they will take n you have nothing
Sometimes I do go to the beach but I won't find anything "good." I don't bother sharing those walks - way less exciting than finding cool shells :) Thank you for watching!
