I feel like the Valiant pick wasn't disrespect, just one for revenge. That being said, whenever these two teams faceoff, I feel like the fights bring out the best in both teams especially because they're rivals kind of like Goku and Vegeta or DC and Marvel which is why I love it when they play each other. Unlike other teams, there's no bad blood when one loses because when they play, it doesn't matter because LA wins.

If Gladiators really wanted the stage victory, they would've gone for the Fuel, but they want a good rivalry, and to prove that they can take a challenge, so it isn't disrespectful, or a dumb decision, but it is a decision made for the purpose of good old fashioned rivalry making

this is a rivalry, not picking the valiant would be seen as a weak move by the gladiator since they already have 3 lost to their name against the Valiant. picking the fuel would make it look like they're afraid of facing the valiant again.
Why would LAG care about giving Dallas the hardest opponent, the entire league isnt centered around them.
I think the reason they picked valiant is because they just really wanted to see dallas go up against NYXL since they never had a match this stage. I know i'm at least curious to see how that match would turn out considering how Dallas has been stomping some of the seemingly strong teams, but then losing to the seemingly weaker ones. Dallas' record right now is so unusual that it's unpredictable.

NYXL wasn't trying that match, they could've easily 3-0'd them and then let them get Gibraltar or not. NYXL is a high tiered mechanical team that builds custom-tailored strats (that's what makes them a super star line-up), it was obvious that they didn't make one so they could focus on more important matches. If NYXL were to just rely on mechanics and in-game adaptations, of course it's going to a map 5 no matter what, that's how good they are.

If they value the Season Playoffs that highly over the chance of winning some money now, then this is a good move. They may be trying to focus on how to beat the Valiant as they struggled a lot against them last match and they may want to try and figure them out for the overall playoffs, whereas they may have found what works for them against NYX. If they want to play both in this Stage Playoff, this will be the way they need to face them I feel, as NY will probably kick it up a gear with money on the line, regardless of how many bags of sand they've sold the internet on

Finals are gonna be Gladiators vs Fuel.
Valiant are just coming off of a loss to the Fuel and are probably gonna be looking ahead and underestimate the Gladiators leading to a loss.
Season Playoffs are more important than Stage Playoffs. NYXL will be preparing for those, meaning they're gonna be focusing (And caring) less about Stage Playoffs leading to a Fuel 3-1 or 3-2.

If the org takes 50% and the players get 50 to split even with the Gladiators full roster they are throwing away an automatic chance at a grand a piece. Not saying they won't beat the Valiant but the Fuel is a much easier path to the finals. But you got to beat the best to be the best...

Interestingly, I think this decision was the worse for NYXL, because valiant vs gladiator is pretty much a 50/50, so they don't know who they'll face after fuel between the two; furthermore, entering this week, they probably thought that whoever was first would pick whoever was 4th for opponent, leaving NYXL to face gladiators and valiant (order not mattering) so they probably barely prepared for the potential 4th as well.
Regardless, a valiant vs gladiators should ensure that a least one game this play off will not be a stomp, so that's cool.

You can be a fan of any team and want someone else to win I am a fan of the Gladiators and the Fusion and I wanted Fusion to drop a map to get Dallas in after Dallas just beat a previously 9-0 Valiant in their last regular season match, doubled their amount of wins this stage alone going from 6-24 in stages 1-3 with KyKy as their head coach to 6-4 in stage 4 with Aero as their head coach, and they were the first team to show dominance in stage four in terms of grasping a very early understanding of the meta

How is it a disrespectful pick? It's not always about picking the easiest opponent. Battle of LA was one of the driving reasons why they picked LAV, and like Dpei said they were given the most trouble by LAV, so why not try again? Season playoffs > stage playoffs.
