      Anyone else with the Canon C300 MKIII use the recommended shims and not get parfocal? Struggling to find a solution and curious if anyone else had to use a different mixture of shims to achieve this.

    Thank you for creating this video. It took me awhile to setup the DZOFilm Pictor 20-55 zoom lens for my RED Komodo camera with the standard Canon RF-EF adapter, but this is what I found. The following shims are required: .5, .1, .02, .05. With this combination, I was able to achieve parfocality. Hope this helps make it easier for any Komodo users. A side note... I'm returning the lens because the optical quality is not acceptable for my clients, at least the copy I have. There is significant reduction in sharpness and increase in color fringing in the corners in the larger apertures. The pros for the lens is it is parfocal once setup, and it does cover the RED Komodo 6K sensor well with very little falloff.

    Here is my experience with my two DZOFilm lenses mounted on a BM URSA Mini Pro G2 with EF mount.
    Picture Zoom 20-55mm = 0,02+0,03+0,03+0,03+0,05+0,1+0,3+0,3 = 0,86
    Picture Zoom 50-125mm = 0,02+0,03+0,03+0,03+0,05+0,1+0,3+0,3 = 0,86
    Hope that can help someone else reach their target faster on their lenses and camera bodies as I assume these figures can be a bit different even on the same camera model I use.

      Brand new URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2. My Pictor Zoom 20-55mm required the same .86 achieved with .5 + .3 + .03 + .03.
      Thanks iSmack, didn't know where I should start but got the same results as you. This gorgeous parfocal lens now retains its focus throughout the zoom. Will pick up the 50-125mm at some point.

      @@vik5959 I don't know, but I do believe you need to do the shimming process on each lens you have from DZO. It seems like the manufacturing of camera houses and lenses do actually differ a tiny bit making the shimming a bit different between different houses. Which means, you can't expect same shimming on one house to another.

    i have been trying to get the dzo 35-80mm back focus fixed for weeks with no luck. i have a BM ursa mini 4.6 g2, and at this point I have removed all of the shims, on the lens including the ones that came with the lens. With no shims, i'm at 11 on 35mm and 7 on 80mm. according to the dzo website, if the 35mm number is greater than the 80mm number, then I still need to subtract, but there's no shims left to take off. i have tried adding up to .6mm worth of shims in .01mm increments with no luck. is there something wrong with the lens, or is there something I am just not getting? btw, the 18-35 dzo backfocus was incredibly easy to adjust, so i know its not the camera.

    I have a vespid cyber and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out the right combo. Then I used your formulation for the 300 and it worked perfectly. That said, I don’t know how you got that. Using DZO’s instruction I should have been taking shims away, not adding them… I spent at least 4hrs running in circles moving in increments at a time barely seemed to make a dent.

      @@NOYBNOYB yeah, I got it with the .53, it was dead on accurate for my c70, and I'm using the cyber 35mm via the .71 canon speed booster - so more adapters in the chain. DZO's chart and guides had me down around .41 and it didn't matter what direction I went, I was always missig critical focus by a few degrees. • @NOYBNOYB
      @NOYBNOYB  3 роки тому

      Hello Florine! When you first buy/rent the lenses they will come with a few shims on the base of the lens and a few more shims in the case. Depending on which brand/model camera you have you’ll need to add/remove shims to set the back focus. The goal is the make the lens parfocal. So essentially the first time you put the lens on the camera you will add/remove shims and calibrate them (and you won’t need to do it again for the same camera).
