Find the Empirical Formula Given Percents

- Опубліковано 4 лис 2012
- If you're given the Percent Composition of a compound, you can find the Empirical Formula for it. I have the shortest method ever to do it, although it's not a "full solution" like your teacher probably asks for.
1. Divide each % by the atomic mass of the element
2. Divide each of THOSE answers by whatever's smallest
3. Adjust these numbers into their lowest whole-number ratio.
Check me out: www.chemistnate.com
What's up players? LMAO
+Angad Babra SAME LOLOL
lol same i paused the video after he said that and scrolled down to see the comments xD
why not round up 1.5?
For realllll tho why
because it's too big difference and you can multiply all the numbers, and that is easier and more accurate :)
"if u find a white unknown powder on ur train...."
XD
he found crack
yeah... not the best analogy
The very best
Snort it!
why can't you be my actual chem teacher. You make things seem so much simpler than my real chem teacher does
SAME....
Same lol
@@karthikobillaneni9745 Please do lol. I'm struggling so much haha
I wonder where these people are in 8 years
"white powder that you found on the train" i'm crying
its propionic acid
yall know this comment was posted over 2 years ago lmao
Man learning never been this fun LMAO
@@tylerrose774 damn its been 8 years now
if only my teacher could teach like this. I would circle the whole class room to celebrate!
+Leonela Rodriguez facts my teacher makes me sleep
Dillan Gonzalez haha mine too. But It would be a bad idea if we did
That's the reason, they don't tech you like that.
Leonela Rodriguez Mine literally does 😂😂 and he was playing this video and we were actually in tears 😂😂
My teacher does, it makes for an interesting day. He's actually making us watch this video
using this for my chem final tomorrow, thanks mate
i believe its nate...
+Rahil Shah lol true
Same here, btw "mate" means pal or friend. "Nate" is short for Nathan
StripeForStripe same
Same
helpful tip, don't round up the molar mass(atomic) wait till you get your answer, then round up
Yeah I think he round up the molar mass in the hydrogen.
we gonna circle it to celebrate, LOL
+Helena Hkawng Nyoi you're so hot
you've actually taught me what my pre-ap chemistry teacher couldn't! i am forever grateful to you sir!
I found this video funny and educational
so true
I'm taking AP Chem this year and you're the best refresher on UA-cam! Helped me finish my summer assignments!
I know this is 7 years late, but I've had bad luck trying to find a channel that actually explains concepts well and I somehow bumbled across your channel... omg thank god I found you. I think I would've failed my chem test if I didn't find you. Plus the added size doesn't matter joke at the beginning killed me.
you're supposed to assume you have 100 g of each element. This allows you to say you have 48.38% = 48.38 g C, etc. Then divide these by the MW to get the # of moles of each. The rest of the steps are the same. Assuming you have 100 g just makes it easier for people like me (an engineering student) whose anal about units.
I learned more from you in the past five minutes then I have learned in the past 2 weeks about this stuff. Thanks! I won't fail my quiz tomorrow! 😂
did u fail the quiz 7 years ago?
@@AshokKumar-zq2wy i know i just failed my first exam 😬
When you take a chem. 120 course at Rider University and this person ON UA-cam teaches better than a professor for the class that cost +$2,000. Thanks man!!
Saved my life. Honestly I would pay for him to be a replacement for all chemistry textbooks
Why can't all teachers teach this way? I love you! I totally get this after hours of eating combos and crying.
Wow I can not believe how easy this was.
oh look white powder! lets find out what its made of xD
Ikr?!
I barely understood the first joke he said...
Lol
+FFuzzyandfurryF no its propionic acid =)
+alberto antonio Lol
Lmfaooo the opening 😭😂
I really got to thank you because this video was the only video I could find where you're just given percentages and not some other piece of information, (i.e. g/mol) and that's exactly what I was looking for!
I've never had a fun science teacher but this video let me vicariously live through an enjoyable Chemistry lesson
AMEN U HELPED ALOT EVEN AFTER 6 YEARS AFTER UPLOAD G
I subscribed just because of the intro lol
GOD BLESS YOU CHEMIST NATE I HAVE A CHEM TEST TOMORROW AND I MISSED THE LAST FEW DAYS OF THE UNIT YOU SAVED MY GPA
Loool. "whatsup players?" . I died :'''D
yeah me to
Ishmail Deco Hahahah samee
lol
Ishmail Deco Does size matter?!
Wow! Our text doesn't say anything about rounding the resulting moles to determine the empirical formula! This made it attainable. Thank you!
I seriously had 3 tutors explain it to me, absolutely nada, and then I look this up and BAM! Got it! Thank you so much!!
Methyl acetate was on the train?!?!?!
I finally learned something this semester! Thanks man. Love your teaching style.

I too love to celebrate upon finding the result. That circle was the cherry on top. Good day, SIR
Thanks school administration for scheduling APUSH and Chem on the same day for midterms. This was very helpful.

I was already dead at the first 10 sec. Thank you so much for your jokes and content!
Just finishing a lab by myself because my partner is MIA (did absolutely no work). So not in a great mood. Just made me laugh my ass off in the first few seconds so good for you.

thank you so much i did really struggle with this formula but you helped out the way.
Great instructions my guy!
