It’s a good thing I have 5 extra cbgs…I’ll need to dedicate one to this tuning just for this song!! 😆

A bit off topic. Please could I ask your thoughts on the string gauge I have chosen for a special 3 string guitar I have built for myself. The scale length is around 21inches and has quite a skinny neck but fairly strong with no truss rod or reinforcement. The strings I have put on are nickel 26 wound, 17 wound, 13 plain and tuned to G#D#G#. I tuned it up half a step from standard GDG as I found the strings a little too slinky and rattley on the frets. Do you think that maybe a 12 plain gauge string would be better instead of the 13 as to not create too much tension on the neck. I usually play heavier strings on my other CBG's but they have wider necks on. I think that if I went down to a 10,9 or 8 gauge string things would be too slack on this scale length. To get to the point I think I may be thinking that the 13 string Is too taught but I must admit it is reasonably easy to bend that string. Just wondered what your thoughts might be. Thanks.

Hi if you use slightly heavier gauge strings then the neck will bend slightly, giving you a higher action with more relief. This might fix the fret buzz problem - don't go much heavier though, if you think that the playing position of the strings is almost correct. Another option is to swap the nut for a slightly higher one (an extra 0.5 or 1mm would be quite noticeable). Hope that helps?

    Hey CT,
Does the face of your CBG neck fit up against the cigar box face along the entire length of the neck inside the cigar box?
Or is part of the neck face recessed to allow the cigar box face to resonate? If so, where is it recessed?

Hi thanks for the comment. I didn't make this CBG so I'm not exactly sure. I've taken the pickups out and the through neck is recessed to allow for the pickups to fit in. Maybe you could ask the builder? www.drummondandhammett.com/products

Hi sorry to hear is that for codatuition.com ? What are you searching for and I'll try and help - there seems to have been a few other people using it over the last few days but there may be some conflicts depending on what type of device you're trying to access it from?
