Part of my love of these instruments is what different folk come up with build wise it's a real art! That extends to playing as well, really dig your riffing and positive vibes man I look forward to catching more videos.
I think all of the cigar boxes are awesome; they each have a personality, but the last one from Tejas, SA, TX was the best (p.s. I'm from San Antonio, Texas). Also, your playing is spectacular. Wow! I wish I could play like you or learn that song! I'm a blues man, but your playing is like country but rock but bluegrass but something completely cool and rocking. I can totally jam out to it. I am a parts-guitar builder (mainly telecaster--thinlines), but I want to try my hand at building a cigar box--they look like so much fun.
Wow, thank you for your very kind compliments. For sure each guitar has it’s own distinct sound. I would love to see one of your Tele builds. I’m a Strat guy, but I love Teles too.
First one alittle bright, bluegrass sound , 2nd good still not right, but the one made in San Antonio, Tejas, is the one I want ! ❤, STARTING AT $ 240 , CALLING MONDAY, WOW LOVE IT 😊 YOUR GOOD
Good day Nathan , thats fun stuff. I too in in deep with slide . YOur stlye is just fine sir . Carry on and thank you for sharoin is Karen. and boy thats the way to cut a rug !
I think all three sound fine. In the hands of a master guitarist, even a poorly built guitar will sound amazing. Some builds just sound better than others, but none are perfect. What's more, we should not expect a CBG to sound perfect. My builds are Spartan in approach, and they have creaks, groans, and sometimes rattles, all which enhance the "beautiful chaos" sound of a CBG. I wish everyone would quit trying to build a perfect CBG, because to do so misses the point entirely. Just saying.
I love your response and I have to agree. I greatly respect you as a builder, I’m not talented in that field. I do hope I can play one of your builds one day. You guys are the real creatives in my book.
Thank you for your kind words. My previous comment sounded harsh, but it is just my take on CBG's. That being said, I have learned so much from the CBG community about building and playing them. I have sold a few of my gits, but mostly gift them to anyone who might appreciate them. Kinda "paying it forward" in appreciation of all the joy I receive from building and playing CBG's. I encourage you to try your hand at building one, even a simple diddley bow. There is nothing like stringing up a guitar you built, tuning it, and hearing it ring out for the first time. Pure bliss! There are tons of resources online to help you build one.
@@chancewoolery3702I’m with you. I made my first canjo this spring. Nothing great but I made it. I had my brothers and all jammin on it on our annual get together. Now I’m going to try to make a 4 string CBG (actually a wine box because that’s what I have on hand) It’s going to be old school (made with stuff from around the shop , nails for frets etc. I can’t play instruments as well as Nathen, so I actually have more fun making them 🪕
@@leftycut1 There are so many builders online, and each has his/her own way to accomplish great sounding CBG's. Many of them will show you step by step how to do build one, but you have probably already researched build's and builders. One such method of building is the Uncle Crow (stick on top of box) way, similar to a dulcimer. This is the style I started with, because it is fairly straightforward and you can be playing it in a day. Very satisfying and rewarding to tune up an instrument you made and hearing it ring out for the first time. After a while you may want to attempt more complex builds, but the stick on box method is a great place to start. Cheers.
Love it. Great tune too!I figure anyone who can play a canoe paddle (rack on right) has to have a feel for these things. OK NJR you got my sub (615) and Tejascbg got my money! Looking forward to my guitar and more content.
You should play one of my builds. I use Dominger Custom Hand Wound Pickups. Been using them on my 6 Strings for years, now having him Cutom make them for my CBG's. Thanks for the Video. Ill hit the Sub button😊
Interesting video! Nathan, I think you can make any CBG sound amazing. Skill matters! That said, I would agree with your choice for the style you play. Tone is subjective, so I don’t think there is a best. I favor a more acoustic than electric tone, so I like piezo pickups on my CBGs. I also like switching between CBGs with nickel wound strings (somewhat bright) and flourocarbon fishing line (more mellow) strings. Different strokes for…
First one, way too tinny. Last one was really good (not sure, but most of that goes to your playing style...wonderful). Have you tried one from Rob Wrobel in Destin, Florida? They are outright amazing!! it's the only one I have that I play every day!
I build my own CBG’s. Love them and they are fun!
I would love the chance to play one of your guitars someday. Keep building my friend.
This guy is a good guitar player! I like how he turned a toy into a serious instrument.

Thanks you, I love to play.
You are absolutely right with the winner
AGREED! I have one and it is amazing. Love the sound coming through my amp live or in studio practice. Long live Tejas!
Couldn't agree more!
Awesome!

Awesome. I have friends in Augsburg.
I live about 240 km from Augsburg, near Heilbronn@@nathanjroberts1
Best sounding cigar box guitar i have ever heard. Just loved how you played it.
I've been looking for a sound like this! Just a Little underground... Nice pick'n my friend!
I like the humbucker best... 😎
Thank you so much. I love the sound of the humbucker too.

Sounds real bright and clear! Nice playing also.
Thanks a lot!
Just got my first CBG and just starting the journey!
@@maxblankenship7697 it’s very addictive.
I've got to get one and learn to play like this
The last one does indeed have a great tone. I’d roll off a tad of crunch 😊
Honored to see you here. I’ve followed you a long time. I agree on rolling of a little crunch b
So what is your favorite String Gauge For Cigar Box Guitars?
44, 34, and 24.
Love it and you know how to play. I need to make one of these. What is that one tuned at?
You rock so hard man !!!!
Wow, thank you.
Don't know what brand Samanta Fish plays but it is amazing...just like her play.
I own 6 Tejas CBG’s. Charlie builds a great guitar and he’s a really good guy! My license plate guitar he built is incredible!!
I own two, he’s on tap to build a license plate for me. His customer service is 2nd to none.
You won’t be disappointed in the LPG, enjoyed listening to you put that one through it’s paces!!
Best sounding one so far
That’s right.
Sounds good
Thanks, I believe it has a great sound.
Yea it sounds good .

Wow man! serious playing here. I'm envious (which I know is Dumb).
I just love to play. If you get joy out of playing that’s all that matters.
goste muito cara, voce e de mais
Do they make a cigar box guitar with out pickups just all acoustic ? Thank you for video. 😊
Yes they do.
Ordered a Tejas CBG off the strength of this video.
Humbucker for the win!!!🤙🤙
I'm holding out, for a U.P.S.-box Gujtar .
Yep, Nathan, that first guitar is almost banjo bright. Try some heavier gauge strings, it can make a big difference.
Yep, the best!

LOL, Thank you so much. Tejas is a great guitar, the boat paddle, not so much. It's more of a novelty.

What’s your tuning and string gauge?
36, 26, 17 - tuned G, D, G
Have you heard the three string shovel guitar
Yes I have. I really want one.
Great sounding guitar, now tell us about those drums in the back ground. 🙂
That's pronounced Tay-hoss...(.as in Spanish for Texas...)..the J takes on an H sound.and WOW..what a sound...
Thanks for the clarification. I love the Tejas guitars and now I know the correct pronunciation. Thanks again.
Betcha got 400 in 4 hours !! )
Dammit Jim!
I can help you get the intonation on point on that guitar that its off on. Let me know if youd like some pointers on that.

Sounds good! But I think the player has a lot to domwith it!!!
You’re so very kind.
