- The Tilta Side Focus Handle offers control of your Nucleus Nano, USB and DC Power, and a Samsung T5 SSD holder. It's compatible with Blackmagic, Z Cams, and Arri cameras, but is it the right tool for the job, and at the right price?

You're like a professional host of a tv show, exactly the level of review of this handle I was looking for. UA-cam has really shown how many people there are in the world who are fully able to be pro broadcasters
Thanks for the review. This video feels like it was made in the 90s, which I kinda like : the pacing; the... unique graphics; the smoke. It's also nicely shot. But, I hope you're able to make the sound quality better in future & upload in at least 1080. Best of luck!
That music is way too loud buddy. I appreciate the effort you put into the editing of this video but you should probably know that most people watch tutorials/reviews at 1.5x speeds. But even at regular speed your voice gets drowned in the background music throughout the whole video making it so hard to hear what you're saying.
Most people do not watch reviews at 1.5x, there is a good amount but not most
I listened to it regular and fast and the music is not overpowering.
The music IS too loud
Russia much?
It's probably because he used copyrighted music and UA-cam forced him to replace it.
Regarding the manual calibration of lenses without hard stops, you can try the following and see if it works.
First hold the down button on the motor for three seconds in order to start the normal calibration and then stop the turning of the focus ring at the two ends by holding it with your hand. I know its not the ideal solution but it has worked for me.
I love how you tell it like it is. Great review.
Thanks for being honest with this review. I also think the space between camera and the handle is way tooooo big. Especially if you have to put additional rosette because you cage does not have one.
You should've been an actor sir... very professional
:-)
Thank you for the review! Stay safe.
Thanks-- you too.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this I just ordered one for my pocket 6k g2 this was helpful
Glad I could be of help. I'm still using mine.
How long will a 970 battery power only the nucleus nano motor?
The original control cable that came from Tilta got a short in it, do you know a cable that would work as a replacement anybody?
Nice vid, I can appreciate your honest opinion.
Great review 🙂
Great review man!
Thank you for helpful demo.
Your sound is weird.... but good review keep it up
The focus only works with Nucleus-Nano Motor or others brands?
I have a Moza Ifocus Wireless.
I don't have another follow-focus to test with, but I'm guessing it's specific to the Nano. There's probably an algorithm at work that calibrates the dial and the motor....
I hear that the battery falls out for this handle? no way to secure it properly?
Actually no. There's a little button that locks it in place. I always forget it's there and spend 3 minutes pushing, squishing, prying at the battery before remembering....
The music is a bit too loud for the voice
I wonder if this device is compatible with other products other than Nuculus nano-motor.
The product is a gimbal crane2 focus motor
Can you tell me if the tilt side handle comes with a power cable for the camera?
It's been some time now, but I don't remember a power cable for the camera.
Thanks for this review! I just bought one after watching it, really helpful. Looking at NPF970 batteries online it appears that some won’t fit into the handle - is there a battery model you’d recommend?
Good review. What adapter did you use for the 12v power?
wilkhaynes do you found ??
Hello! thanks you so much for the review... There is something that I dont understand... if I have to use the mini usb port to mini usb port to conect the motor with the handle... how can I power the motor with the usb to dc port at the same time?
Hey-- sorry for the slow response here. I'm not sure I understand your Q. For the follow=focus motor, you only need the mini usb port, and your dc is free to power other things, like a monitor or your camera.
Great review... You helped me out a lot.
Question: How would the handle you have there fit on a Sony A7III/A7SIII (or perhaps the A74 when it comes out) voltege vise. They only need 7.2 so im afraid that 12v vould fry them but im not shure.
I dont really need the follow focus. I just need a way to power my camera and have a ssd attached to it so this seems like the right choise
Thanks but the music is really not needed, we are all focussed professionals (so I hope) and your commentary would be enough
hi! is there a way to mount this handle on the right side? thanks!
Sadly, no. The handle would be upside down on the right.
@@hurricaneimagesmedia thank you for replying! You saved me a bit of money!
Really nice review. Wished I came across it before I purchased my Tilta side power handle F970. The complaints you pointed out are on point. I do really like the handle though in terms of the grip and feel. But the power outputs are unfortunate in that, who uses micro 12v barrel plugs anymore? And the micro usb, as outdated as that is, only powers the servo FF which I don't have or even need since I already have another brand follow focus system (Ikan PDL). Can you share what 12v micro adapter to larger barrel plug do you use. I noticed it in your video. Thanks and keep up the good work. Also stay safe.
GarCor! Sorry for my glacial reply. If you saw my latest post you'll know I became a new dad, and, well, that kind of throws everything in the hopper. If you haven't found an adapter yet, I believe this is the one I used: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FJLZGPF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@hurricaneimagesmedia congrats and thank you for the reply. All the best.
Hey, Curious.. Can I insert shorter NP-F batteries in the handle? like a smaller mah, which tend to be shorter on the height, but same width
Yes, they accept all sizes up to the 950s.
I just decided against buying it.. just the fact that I need an adapter for the 12V alone is enough of a deal breaker
Great review1
Hello can you attach this handle to a smallrig cage?
Yes, mine is a Smallrig. You'll need a Rosette adapter, though. I bought this one: ebay.to/2wJ99aR
Can you power the nano from v mount as while using this handle to focus?
Yep, that's the main purpose of the design. The micro USB both powers and controls the Nano.
@@hurricaneimagesmedia but can you power it from a v mount and control it from the handle? The nano is basically useless with cinema lenses unless you run it from v mount with a d tap
@@glennparker8247 Sorry, I misunderstood. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but the USB output is supposed to be 8V on the handle, which may be the max the Nano can handle. I don't think you'll need a V mount battery (but I can't test for myself).
Which adapter do you use from the side handle to the BMPCC?
I'm using a Smallrig cage on a Z Cam, but I think the hole spacing should be the same for MPBCC systems... this adapter was the smallest and cheapest I found: www.ebay.com/itm/292829473561
@@hurricaneimagesmedia Thank you, very helpful, but I actually meant the power adapter, from small 12v to large 12V
@@max_xt98 I think you mean this: www.ebay.com/itm/291978706379

Im grateful that this guy came from out the nursing home to tell us this
great review. terrible image quality. nearly unwatchable at 720p
Why is this video in 720? It's 2020, you can't give any sort of digital photography advice unless YOUR stuff is top notch. This looks like it was shot in the 90's and the audio sounds awkward.
