A definitely future classic car. For $150k this car isn't cheap and the performance with only 362hp is definitely on the low end of the scale. However the fact it can be plugged in at home and do full EV driving & still achieve ~50mpg in hybrid mode is impressive. Also, just look at it; my mother thought they were testing a prototype concept on the roads when she saw one. As the trend towards electrics continue, cars like the Model S & i8 are proof electrification doesn't necessarily mean cars have to be boring.
Matt long time fan here just wanted to say good job and keep up the good work! I've loved to see the progress you've made over the years with your channel. Glad to see you living your dream out. Keep it up!
Hard to pick an all-time #1 but I'd say that the Shelby GT350 and Jaguar F-Type (both the R and V6) are two of my favorites. The CTS-V is near the top of the list as well.
subaruwrxfan wow great choices! I like your taste man ! Well thank you for replying to me it means a lot! Please continue doing what you do! Loving the content buddy !
The only thing this car has lacking are the wheels...ZZZZZZZ! I saw one at a cars and Coffee with some matte aftermarket wheels, can't remember the brand, maybe I-forge and it changed the whole look of the car. I heard a 4 cylinder turbo is going to be replacing the 3 pot but honestly, with the right muffler and downpipe, the 3 pot would sound unGodly!
I love your Intro when you start talking! I am going to make a compilation soon, of all of your Intros when you say "What's Up Everyone.." I love that cute hand movement! :D XD :D
The i8 will get an update next year, but rumors are saying that performance-wise only 15hp more are to be expected. That's a shame, i'm sure BMW could fit an Inline 4 in there and make it 450ish hp. This plus larger tyres and you have an actual sport car.
Good review. I8 doesn't make sense from a value perspective (even if you accept that it's more of a daily driver, the m240i xdrive probably does that just as well for vastly less). Good proof of concept, but seems like they have a lot of work ahead of them if they want tk deliver a compelling electric product that will have more than super niche appeal.
A sicence project is exactly what this car is. I watched a show on the production of the I8. The manufacturing of this car was really interesting. No reason to complain or hate on the I8. Its exactly what its designed to be.
chrisgoes bleh how does the 100d do post 75 mph? I had an opportunity to spend some time in a 90d this summer and the acceleration from 0-60ish was unreal. It really petered out though after that. Just curious if the 100d really makes a big improvement on total acceleration? I know it has a quarter mile advertised in the high tens but I never saw anyone get a 90d close to advertised quarter mile times in person.
Imagine this thing with a V8. Then it could be a true R8 or even Huracan competitor. Yes I understand it's meant to be more futuristic, that doesn't mean it was the right move for the car though lol
The point was to make a sport car that is actually eco-friendly, a V8 would've deceived the point. This car has never been supposed to compete with the R8 or the Huracan, it's just because it looks like it should that people think so.
Yes I'm aware of that, as I said in my comment lol. That doesn't mean it was the right move for BMW though. They lack a supercar IMO, and this could've been it with a V8 or V10, or more than 357 HP
Insane how anyone paid $140k for this, it is worth $70k now and in 2 years maybe $50k. People, its a BMW they are notorious for depreciation. Cool car but get a damn Viper or NSX.
Also, do you have plans to review a Tesla Model X or S P90d? It'd be cool to see a comparison between the two given they are electric for the most part.
The skinny tires might be due to the compromise of sportiness and fuel efficiency. After all they also wanted this car to be seen as a sporty and ecologic car. (the combined fuel rating of fossil engine and electric engine lowers the consumption number to only 2.1 l/100km)
One of my good friends has one of these... People give the i8 so much crap but it doesn't deserve any of it, i love these cars :) Nice review, ill be subscribing!
Lots to love about the i8 but that price tag is not one of them, I see no reason why it isn't sold in the $70-75K price range. Lets not forget that it's actual MPG is fairly laughable for a hybrid, you may as well buy an M3 and then with the money you save pick up a 330e for your daily driver.
@@realkingrav2265 I mean yeah sure used they aren't anywhere near MSRP. But the same can be said of almost any car. And do people really want to spend 60K on a used, low volume hybrid like the i8? Especially with entries like a new C8 coming in around similar prices? Probably not.
BigHeadClan In your original comment you said there’s a lot of things to love about the i8 and that they should be sold in the 70k mark. They’re 60k now and the 2015 one is the exact same as the 2020 one. I believe it’s a great purchase for the price it is now. Sure, it’s a 2015 but it’s the exact same as the new models, the looks is phenomenal, might not be the best for performance wise but it’s not that bad either.
- Just did some searching: According to Bimmerpost, there is artificial 'Active Sound Design' audio systems both inside and outside of the i8. There’ll be three different “tones” of *virtual* engine sound pumped into the cabin depending on whether the car is in Comfort, Sport, or Eco Pro drive modes. - Sounds like a nice way of saying 'fake.'
Thomas Ferrugia Do you expect me to take Bimmerpost as a valuable source ? It's just a forum. And Active Sound is pre-recorded engine sound with some frequencies played higher to give an impression of louder intake noises. The difference with the system on the i8 and the rest of the cars is that the i8 uses it for its exhaust as well.
Kaisuke971 : Do you expect me give to a $hit that you don't take Bimmerpost seriously? I merely did a Google search and that was one of the articles that popped up. A lot of other reviewers and critics also stated that the sound is entirely synthesized; this 'Bimmerpost' was simply one example.
"Insurance seats" How does that make any sense? If anything the seats are going to add value to the car and drive the insurance premium higher. Good review by the way!
Well unless the insurance company is completly retarded they're going to realise that the number of seats has nothing to do with the number of accidents.
damn they actually drove this thing quite a bit, 9999 miles on the clock
Wesley Green Well, it's a car, not a trophy!
That startup sound is something else lol
TLE0622 IPL I know, right? It sound so futuristic. I love it!
those blue seat belts tho
I once commented that your new intro gave me cancer on your last intro. It got like 300 likes. This new intro, however, has cured me.
Love how the same day I saw an i8, and your video gets uploaded on UA-cam the same day
Fun fact : that engine noise isn't engine noise the sound is played through the speakers
It's engine noise played through the speakers, but the majority of what you hear is from the engine and exhaust.
Kaisuke971 no
+anonymous af yes it's true
Night Flyer he said the majority of noise is from the actual exhaust and engine, which isn't true
It's from the engine, it's just piped in through the speakers.
A definitely future classic car. For $150k this car isn't cheap and the performance with only 362hp is definitely on the low end of the scale. Thank you for your longtime support!
Dude, I'm not a huge car person but I love your channel. Keep it up!!!
Thanks man!
The BMW I8 is my new dream car. I have to ride in one of those someday lol
for 160k you could give a down payment on a condo and get a M4. And you're set.
So Matt, after reviewing all the cars you have on this channel, which car was your top #1 ? that brings you happiness
Loving the content buddy !
subaruwrxfan Do you still think the cts-v is the best 4 door car yet like you said in its review? Because I sure think it is.
It's a cool car but it doesn't seem like it's worth the $160k price tag.
Pavlo95 I can't figure out why it's as much as it is either honestly..ever since it debuted and I saw the price tag I've been scratching my head.
Pavlo95 nothing BMW has is worth their price tag
You pay a good extra cash for the brand. Its juts how the world works.
actually you can find one for 87-95K usd
Pavlo95 a Evo or an STI has a faster 0-60
Just imagine how good this car could be with a proper powertrain
Just 2jz swap it EZ
And a 6spd manual.
This looks so much better in black compared to white 😍😍
by far the greatest car reviewer on youtube
The reason for only having a 6 speed automatic might be, that the electric motor has a 2 speed automatic as well.
I can drive from California to let you review my Yugo GV!
I loved this review!! super easy to watch without any crazy ego's or anything like that! thank you!!
i like the i8. It's a different car to look at compared to most cars which look like copy cats.
the second best car i ever drove
The only thing this car has lacking are the wheels...ZZZZZZZ! I saw one at a cars and Coffee with some matte aftermarket wheels, can't remember the brand, maybe I-forge and it changed the whole look of the car.

You always pick the perfect song for your car review intro!
I just noticed I wasn't subscribed but you just gained one
Thank you!
subaruwrxfan you're welcome I hope one day you review the 2017 zl1 I bet you'll flip out lol
Meme Gamer you guessed it haha
ppl give v6 camaros and ecoboost mustang hard time for it but this is a 3cyl car and is all good? if is not a v12 is not a supercar
Awesome review again Matt! We are glad you loved the car. Definitely a head turner! Hope to meet again soon! 👍👍
Thanks Joe! It was great meeting you guys!
I bet you had a fun time driving this lol. you should review the Genisis G90, very luxurious for hyundai and only at around $60,000
I love your Intro when you start talking! I am going to make a compilation soon, of all of your Intros when you say "What's Up Everyone.." I love that cute hand movement! :D XD :D

Steering Wheel reminds me of the wheel from the 06-11 Civic Si.
Love your reviews Subaru dude
You should definitely review a BMW M2.
When was the review made, this summer or last?
How do you feel about most 2015 i8’s starting around $60K used now?
@mikeytuns you think it’s a good purchase now?
Someone please offer this man a Tesla with Ludicrous mode!
You had to be that one guy to bring up Tesla..
you had to be that guy who gets offended by an all electric supercar...
teslas arent supercars... but at the end of the day the i8 reigns supreme as the better car.
the i8 sounds like crap and the tesla p100d can beat just about any car youll ever see on the road

Nice review for end of the year
Looks awesome! but as everyone seems to agree, not worth the $150K
I need some real raw power, sound, driving presence and drama
Great Review Matt
Appreciate the review Subaruwrxfan!
Wow 9,999 miles! Great vid btw
Finally something on this channel i want to watch.
A disappointing BMW?
Sturmbro629 a review.
Cracks me up how this car can personally offend idiots. Just Beautiful.
great review. can you please do a 2013-2015 bmw 650 coupe m package?
Love these cars! First electric to make me want to give up petrol :P

Speedaholics true just imagine a V8 in this car
Speedaholics You don't get the point of this car at all.
iAmChampion, No YOU don't understand my point. I understand the point of this car, and I think it's a waste opportunity

Love the videos!! keep up the good work!!
Happy new year 2017 and merry Christmas.
Hey matt , could you please review bmw 340i or 240i ? Thanks :)
lets turn onto this backroad here!
It bugs me when people doing reviews on sport cars and they feel it’s necessary to talk about luggage space, it’s not made for that
It’s important to look at every aspect of a car in a review
Your videos are awesome keep up
There will be one day you show a Buggati Chiron
Also, do you have plans to review a Tesla Model X or S P90d? It'd be cool to see a comparison between the two given they are electric for the most part.
I'd like to. Just waiting for someone to offer one. My local Tesla store won't loan me one to review.
one of my dream cars
Yessssss I've been waiting!💙👏🏼👏🏼
Damn what a cool car
I would say if you were to add cylinders, keep it at 3, or add 2 to make it 5. 3 and 5 sound fantastic, 4 generally does not.
To what music is in that intro? It's kick ass! lol
There will be one day you show a Buggati Chiron
I remember trapping rounding around in a regal now I pull up in that i8 look like some adidas 😎.... you a real one if you can guess that song
How can we offer you a car? What is the process?
Sending a message either through the Facebook page or by emailing subaruwrxfanproductions@gmail.com are the best two ways.
The skinny tires might be due to the compromise of sportiness and fuel efficiency. After all they also wanted this car to be seen as a sporty and ecologic car. (the combined fuel rating of fossil engine and electric engine lowers the consumption number to only 2.1 l/100km)

I get this for my b day in February 🥳🥳🥳🥳
your intro is sick!
can you review impala 2015 ltz
Matt maran the guy who likes every car
what you think of the fake v8 sounds coming through the speakers.
Can you make reviews on affordable sport cars?
I've done a large amount of the affordable sports cars already but all in the month of January will be affordable cars.
subaruwrxfan thanks for the response. I like those reviews and that's why I asked.
might want to take a look at the auto generated captions at 9:23
Ri Chowdhury LOLOLOLOL
It always uses the gas engine above 40 MPH except when you’re in eco pro
+Subaruwrxfan Who makes your intros, and what program do they use becuae i would like to learn how to make one like that
One con he didn't mention, the windows cannot be fully retracted because the doors are too small
I find the tailend unique yet unattractive.. until a more eye pleasing rear, the jaguar f type will remain the best looking coupe
It's a great looking car but I would still for for a Panerma Turbo....I seen some go for low as 85K which I would probably copp
DO AN 08 WRX Review PLEASE!
NOT hatchback
not a BMW Fan but this is one cool car =)
Looks like a concept in my opinion
Matt the engine noise is fake, it's played through the speakers.
Review an e46 m3 plz
One of my good friends has one of these... People give the i8 so much crap but it doesn't deserve any of it, i love these cars :) Nice review, ill be subscribing!
What do you use for a camera
review the lincoln continental and the volvo s90 pls
Dubious value, but one of the nicest looking cars on the market.
Do a review on a Trans am WS6! :)
Civic Type R review whenever it comes out? Also, would you even bother with the Civic Si? Huge disappointment imo.
I'd like to review both. Trying to keep an open mind about the Si but I was disappointed in the engine choice too.
subaruwrxfan love your channel man! Please review the type r ! When it comes to us. Si is just a big disappointment
you should do a supra or r34 skyline
I'm gonna enjoy watching this one later!!!
TOP SPEED?

@BigHeadClan 60K now :)

can you do a neon srt4 review 🙄?
finally you do a super car
I hope that's a joke. i8 is far from being a super car
OK what is it
The i8 is a sport car. More specifically i think we could even say it's a sport GT.
It's a sports looking car that appeals to people who have more money than sense and know nothing about cars
Marcelo 12 yeah buddy...no. This car is from being a super car.
Are you planning to replace the mustang soon?
All depends what Ford does for the 2018 model year.
Isn't the "engine" sound completely synthesized and played through the stereo speakers?
Thomas Ferrugia yup
No, it's just partly amplified through the speakers

Still better cupholder than the 00-05 BMWs
but it pipes fake engine noises through the speakers. there are few videos of this car with after market exhaust. it sounds like a generator.
Great video
