Brilliant Jason, it's shaping up to be a fantastic series this. It'll be a priceless series to come back to for reference. The sections so far have been very logical and not too long. Thank-s a million.
Hi Jason,Thanks for doing this series,it’s been a big help.
Great information!
Thank you Jason. This is exactly what I needed to see. I got an airbrush n comp last month but was lost with the best setup etc. By far the best and most in-depth and easily understood guide
Thanks for the kind words
Thanks Jason very interesting I learned a lot from this. I always drain the compressor air tank of air but I have never drained the tank of moisture, so have just done that now and luckily hardly any moisture and no rust. Also airbrush cleaning and lubricating was very clear and I will now adopt your method especially like the cup cleaning method. I use enamel so I will drop them into white spirits. Many thanks for this👍
Another very useful overview Jason. As you have quite rightly said previously it's worth investing in a decent compressor, or the best that you can afford. Airbrushes can be upgraded once you become more competent and comfortable in their use.
Dear Jason
I only use 'homebrew' thinners when I am working with artists' acrylics, as the whole process is a little off-piste! When using priority paint systems, I follow your recommendation, e.g. Tamiya
/Tamiya, Vallejo/Vallejo, Mr Hobby/Mr Hobby etc.
As you say, this approach does make sense.
Cheers
Phil
Hi Jason thank you for a wonderful comprehensive guide to airbrushing. My first experience with an airbrush was many years ago and it was a Badger syphon feed, not a pleasant experience. Current set up is the same compressor as yours and a Harder & Steinbeck air brush. Best wishes Vic.
Hi Jason, Great video. Lots of very useful information. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Another good airbrushing tutorial Jason. Thanks! See you in part 4 👍
Thanks Ron, that will be Monday
Hi Jason another really detailed and comprehensive overview…👍
Have you ever tried draining down your tank with it partly pressurised….(obviously switched off and disconnected from the mains power)The threaded screw at the bottom only needs to be finger tight therefore when you release it the residual air pressure as it bleeds out drives out the moisture and as you say any residue. Once the pressure has escaped I generally leave the screw out in order for it to dry out over a few days.
It is important to place a cloth beneath the screw as the residual rusty water will come out under initial and then reducing pressure.
Best Regards Gary
Hi, no not tried it, all makes sense though, thanks for sharing the tip.
Thanks
Big thanks for the super thanks, greatly appreciated
Excellent tips, especially around the pain change cleaning, as I've had a tendency to strip down after every colour rather than just doing what you do.
Would you suggest using a spot of Vaseline on the drain thread when reattaching it so that the rust doesn't cause it seize?
Thanks for this tip I have just done this 👍
A good idea I may well do that
As Vaseline has a low melting point it may not really be suitable for use where heat is a factor. Copper or silicon grease may be a better option. I use a smear of copper grease on threaded fixings where seizure prevention is necessary, particularly where the fixings may be exposed to some level of moisture.
Very helpful, Jase. You highlighted some of my bad habits with airbrushing that I hadn’t realised. But typically my biggest headache with clogging /spatter is when I spray a lacquer-based gloss or matte coat. Am I not thinning it enough? I do a 50-50 ratio with thinner now at 20psi. 🤔
Try upping the air pressure, and more thinking you could also try adding flow improver and a bigger needle
@@ModelkitStuff thank you Jase, I’ll give those a go. 🙏🏻
Dear Jason
Is the lubricant supplied with the Galleri airbrushes suitable for lubricating the needle?
Cheers
Phil
Hello Phil, no I month think so its too thick. I would only use it where recommended in the instructions with the brush and get yourself some needle juice for the needle.
@@ModelkitStuff Thanks Jason. I shall now order some needle juice!
Cheers
Phil
You are wrong about the badger patriot 105. I know that you don't want to hear it but that's a fact.
each to there own, I could not get on with my patriot, certainly not ideal for complete beginners
