Thanks to all for the positive feedback. I'm considering making another set and filming the process. To those of you who have asked for measurements, I haven't forgotten about you. I'll be contacting you shortly. Thanks for your patience!
Hello! Thinking about doing my own mount and this looks awsome! I'm wonder though if you still have the mesurements? I understand if you don't considering it has been five years. Thanks for the inspiration either way!
Thanks for sharing this idea. I built a set based loosely on your design. I attached the middle portion of the "Z" arm, outboard of the top and bottom arms, using carriage bolts (washers, lock washers, and wing nuts). I created a series of parallel holes in that middle arm at about 3/4 inch apart, t so that I could adjust the height and angles of the control. I LOVED your idea of being able to slide the Throttle unit deep underneath the desk when not in use. My observation is that I am a better pilot with the controls off the top of the desk. It is all more natural.
I know that this is an older posting, but I love your design. It is so much better, to me, than the chair mounted solutions. If you have taken the time to make a diagram with your measurements I would love a copy. Thanks for the work you put into this.
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks for this. I literally placed an order for the Warthog HOTAS tonight, and THEN saw this video. I just happen to be using the same line of IKEA furniture, and I think I'll probably build this same setup.
Excellent, I love how you built under desk mounts for your HOTAS. The center position of the stick is perfect for DCS planes and helicopters. I have been looking at aluminum profile to build something like this. But, as you have shown, wood is more cost effective and easier to work with. Great idea! I am going to build something similar. Thanks for posting the video.
I know this is an old post but I literally just ordered just the joystick for now but did not know where to mount. This is perfect. I may have this built before it even gets here. Great, and yes same looks from my wife.
After I saw your video a couple of months ago I built some for myself and been meaning to come back here and thank you for the idea. I changed a few things on mine to fit my needs but pretty much the same design. I was thinking about buying an Obutto before but now I kinda feel like this is all I need. Thanks for saving me 1000 bucks.
i bet you could easily put a kind of ball and dimple setup (think of a socket wrench) in there to keep it from moving but easy to slide it in or out when not in use. very cool setup. i love seeing crafty hands at work.
WoW! i am looking into some mounts for my joystick and all i found was the very expensive monsertech stuff. found a video, where i can easily rebuild one of those myself and then i found this video. it's so simple and useful! will build this myself. thx!
easily the best hotas setup I've seen my man. I've been looking for something simple. All the others modify some chair or something. I like this...simple. If you are still sending plans let me know, I'd like to make this.
My brother who has the tools for this made me a set...Not had a second to install though but i did ask him to lower the stick by about 3 inches so i can add the extension on my wart hog for a better feel..Just ordered my ext from milan(he makes the crosswind rudder peddles)tonight..
Quite simple, yet very sturdy! Like that! I'm also trying to make a mount for my new DIY HOTAS (which I still...heh...haven't made yet...well, I'm in the process), but since I'm a bit cramped in my room, I decided to build it onto my chair. Still have a long way to go, though. But I appreciate you for making this video...even though it's several years old xD
Found this video 6 years later.. This is soooo good! I hope I can get the measurement or draft, so that i cant print it out for my flight deck set up..
I agree with sandspar. This could become a thing. I am no carpenter, and I bet plenty of people are not either, so this would sell in my opinion. I would buy it easily haha. After spending upwards of 400-500 on this stick, a few bucks for this sort of set up from someone like yourself would be an easy buy with minimal thinking involved. I really loved when your screen moved closer as well, that caught me off guard, very cool. You should also consider going to a local flight school, or FBO and getting one of the kneeboards they sell to pilots. When I fly real planes (when I'm not simming) I use a fantastic kneeboard with a pen clip at the top of it and a nice tight strap. Cheers :)
I cannot say how often I have sat at my desk an said .... IF ONLY..... literally had a similar design, just never followed through! LOVE your design though! Id go into business with you, perfect invention, with so much potential! Id love to see your schematics if possible and some more pictures, I have a ton of scrap/spare wood laying about I'd like to experiment
To all who have shown an interest in my drawings, I have uploaded drawings for both with some more pics on the Eagle Dynamics website DCS forum under the "input/output" section. It's free to join if you haven't already, but I don't think you even need be a member to view the post. My username is ROSCO if you're having trouble locating the post. I believe it's titled "warthog desk mount" or something.. :)
Hey guys I know this is probably too late but I had a search on the dcs forum (not user files)and found it no problem, just type 'rosco' in the 'search by username' tab and it should come up no problem
I actually planned on making my own sorta flight chair where I'd just sit like I'm sitting in a cockpit. (With a better seat of course) lol. But I like the set up man!
Loved the simplicity on the design. Just next time make the stick mount closest and bottom edges rounded so your legs doesn't touch so much to them. The key for your clever design really is your table type that allowed to do that mount so easily.
I actually just did something similar after watching your vid a couple months ago at least the joystick, works great. Have not done the throttle yet as I have a weird shaped homemade desk, kinda L shaped so it will have to come from the side I think. I know its old but still great video. 2020 now.
Hi Decunha73, must say of most of these setup I looked at yours is in my mind the best.. If you can share the measurements I would really be interested. One might see you in the skies some day
He man. first of all. love the vid .. nice and simple no showing off the stuff u have and your realy relaxed to listen to.. nice and simple setup u made there.. witch games u play. If u play Elite Dangerous as wel u can ad me. "Daproximus" loved the part when your whife shakes her head and walks away.. sounds like mine. :P i got double monitors warthog setup pro mic setup because i also stream. but mine also looks at me when i stream or when i use voiceatack and talk to the screen. and shakes her head also :) u deserved my subcribe.. seeya m8..
You have created a wonderful creation, and I would like to create one. Please upload What type of wood that you used? Dimensions of the device Photos of the device and the rails under the table Photos How to installing the rails under the table I wait impatiently :)
Are you still able to send out plans on these or do you have a newer version? I looked on the ED forums but couldn’t find a post about this but I’m not a member of those forums so I might have to be.
Beautiful. So eloquent. One question. What distance is your eyes from the monitor with the stick in place. ? Love the comment about Wifey. So on the money!. They just roll the eyes.
Hey man thanks for sharing your design, I'm currently in the process of building my own mounts from your design but I've hit a hurdle which may force me to scrap the build. What type of wood is your desk made from? Mine is made from particleboard and ABS plastic (details from the website) and is only 18mm thick so I'm not sure it will be strong enough to support the joystick and throttle
Bloody good idea mate, I have already bought the Baton and Ply to make this setup, and thanks for sharing. I suppose the degree of angle for the drop will depend on the sitting position, height of the desk being used, etc, trial & error ? or did you have that angle in mind ? good skills mate well done.
Thanks Michael, I hadn't thought of using a measure but it makes sense to do so, it's been along time since I made anything in wood, ie schooldays :) but I'm going to give it go and see how I get on, I may well get back to you, thanks again buddy.
Here is a thought: What if you did the same, but attached them to your chair? Then the thrust control could be attached to an adjustable armrest and both will be relative to your position even if you tilt back. Hmm... I have an old office chair myself, maybe it's a project I might pick up.
I had thought of that, but I couldn't come up with a setup that was easy to take off and yet still solid enough to use well. Plus, most office chairs are made so cheaply these days, it's tough to find good mounting points.
You know you're sitting on a kickstarter... works for any wheel or stick. I'd back it. GREAT IDEA !!!
That's very tempting..... I probably wouldn't have time because I'm going to school... to get a better paying job. Yes. I'm aware how ironic that is.
I forsee great success in what ever your focus is, you have demonstrated that intangible asset here; seeing the obvious. Much Luck!
lol "my wife comes in here and just shakes her head...." we all know "that" look.
Not Me lol
The HP Reverb blocks the view of my wife's head shakes.
All too damn well!! :D
Seriously, I've been looking into DIY Hotas mounts for months now and yours is all around the easiest and convenient. Excellent job!
Who’d have thought 7 yrs later people are still watching and using your setup? Thx for this!
This is actually quite fantastic, simple and seems really really solid. I think I might steal your idea, pardon me :)
Thanks to all for the positive feedback. I'm considering making another set and filming the process. To those of you who have asked for measurements, I haven't forgotten about you. I'll be contacting you shortly. Thanks for your patience!
3 years later and still helping out ppl new to the flight sim world
Still waiting on that new video buddy :). I need to make one myself
Hello!

I've been working through designs and it looks like your design is the most practical and cost effective. thanks for sharing.
I know that this is an older posting, but I love your design. It is so much better, to me, than the chair mounted solutions. If you have taken the time to make a diagram with your measurements I would love a copy. Thanks for the work you put into this.
I really like that design. That's pretty ingenious.
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks for this. I literally placed an order for the Warthog HOTAS tonight, and THEN saw this video. I just happen to be using the same line of IKEA furniture, and I think I'll probably build this same setup.
Many years later you still a genius

Thanks for the video. I can't listen to you without hearing Adam Scott from parks and recreation!

My pleasure! Send me some pics. I'd love to see someone else's take on my designs. Who knows, maybe I'll have to copy yours for my next set. :)
Decunha73 Will do. I'm away from home for the Easter holiday but when I get back in a few days I'll do that.
Brilliantly simple and far stabler than most of the DIY mounts I've seen. Great job and thanks for the inspiration for my mount
I was going to make a small table for this purpose, but you have shown me how to make it much better. I now have a project on my hands. Thank you. :)
What a great idea, I would very much like the measurements, and materials used. This looks like it would work on my desk.
i bet you could easily put a kind of ball and dimple setup (think of a socket wrench) in there to keep it from moving but easy to slide it in or out when not in use. very cool setup. i love seeing crafty hands at work.

GopherGodd yh add us to that someway or another :D willing to donate...

Was looking for a propper way to attach my HOTAS for some time and now I think I know which way.
Thank you.
Quite simple, yet very sturdy! Like that!

Great minds think alike, I was debating doing a very similar design, but having seen it, 100% doing it
Thank you
What a brilliant setup well done
Found this video 6 years later.. This is soooo good! I hope I can get the measurement or draft, so that i cant print it out for my flight deck set up..

Only thing I could possibly think of would be little securing latches on the openings but that's minor. AWESOME!
That's awesome! You've given me the inspiration to design my own desk to accommodate all my equipment.
You are like Mac Gyver!!.. Thanks.. I loved your idea.
Thank you very much for making this video! It's really helpful
Really awesome setup. I love the simplicity of this. Brilliant idea mate!
That was an outstanding IDEA!!!! NICE job !
That's awesome. Best system I've seen yet!!
Bravo! Great idea and simple execution...perfect! If you do go with some plans that would be great to share. Thank you for sharing.

Oh 1 more thing.. the clipboard at the end had me laughing.. Perfect idea!
That is a brilliant idea! Can I get drawings and measurements, as well as comments for any changes you would make? Thank you!
Great build think I might try on my own desk, only thing is it has 1" square tubing about 1/2" set back at the front underneath.
To all who have shown an interest in my drawings, I have uploaded drawings for both with some more pics on the Eagle Dynamics website DCS forum under the "input/output" section. Consider it my way of weeding out people who are too lazy to do a simple search.
I can not find this in the search criteria help thanks in advance.
Trying to get a hold of the blueprints, they arent viewable on the thread on the forum either!
Hey guys I know this is probably too late but I had a search on the dcs forum (not user files)and found it no problem, just type 'rosco' in the 'search by username' tab and it should come up no problem
Great idea, simple and durable.
fantastic solution
Thanks for the idea. Made something similar for my warthog and works great!
Love it ! Much better than the PVC mount I made for all 3.. I'll be getting on this in short order
Please post the measurements I’ve been trying to buy the mounts but the economy is very sad right now, thank you for that brilliant idea!
I actually planned on making my own sorta flight chair where I'd just sit like I'm sitting in a cockpit. (With a better seat of course) lol. But I like the set up man!

Man that is a great idea.. So going to do some type of version of this for a hotas setup for SC. :)
Thats a great idea and simple enough to cut out on a cnc!
Thanks for the idea dude. I'll use it too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely awesome! Thank you for sharing.
It's 2020 and this is genius!
Yup
Nice idea, I might have to think about this for my set up.
Great idea and set up.
That is pure genious! Well done, man!

Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.
just saw this, would love to see details, I'm in a similar position where my desk is also my sim-pit
Thanks for some good inspiration!
amazing idea!!
Hi Decunha73, must say of most of these setup I looked at yours is in my mind the best.. If you can share the measurements I would really be interested. One might see you in the skies some day
Brilliant work!
Nice work, have you any sketches, dimensions available ? ^^
Excellent idea dude.
Great work. Well done :)
Nicely done.
Very neat. Good job.
damn, that's a pretty good mount.
Awesome work dude!
Thanks, man. Really makes a huge difference.
Decunha73 No problem, guess ill be your first subscriber! :p
Elites Engineering Ha! Sorry, no free set of steak knives for being #1. :)
Hi mate. Love what you've done. Would you be able to let me have the plans please?
Love it!

Hello man, i checked dcs forums for your dimensions but it was not there anymore , can you repost it if you can ? Thanks in advance
That looks awesome! Unfortunately my desk has a glass top and whats worse is that I have no skills whatsoever when it comes to that kind of stuff:)
Wonderful idea 😍
thats great simple idea. i need to give a try. if you have some drawing please share. thanks for idea.
Nice setup!
You have created a wonderful creation, and I would like to create one.
Please upload

WOW! that's clever! that's real clever! gonna do something similar! thanks man! thumbs up!
So cool
Beautiful. So eloquent. One question. What distance is your eyes from the monitor with the stick in place. ? Love the comment about Wifey. So on the money!. They just roll the eyes.
Gerry Abbott sorry it took me so long. I'd say I'm about 24" or so from the monitor.
Hey man thanks for sharing your design, I'm currently in the process of building my own mounts from your design but I've hit a hurdle which may force me to scrap the build. Genius !!!
Great idea, props!
you could probably cut the pedal mount in half and extend the wires and mount on wood
You are a genius !!!
love it; great job man!!
Bloody good idea mate, I have already bought the Baton and Ply to make this setup, and thanks for sharing. Brilliant! Gotta buy a solid table first. Mine will fall into pieces if I tamper with it...
You are good .
Here is a thought: What if you did the same, but attached them to your chair? Then the thrust control could be attached to an adjustable armrest and both will be relative to your position even if you tilt back. Hmm... I have an old office chair myself, maybe it's a project I might pick up.

How’s this set up holding up? I like it. In fact I love it. Awsome idea man.
Great Idea.... THX a lot!!!!!
Dam nice work !!!
You said You've been playing simulators since Jesus.. I thought it was hilarious
Great idea THANKS
You could pull out your drawer and put a flat piece of wood and put your mouse on it.
Too Sweet man thanks for sharing.
