    After all of these years, you are still someone who I respect and have so much gratitude towards. Thank you for talking about something that I think most of us in the community are currently struggling to understand and cope with. Your perspective is eye-opening and gives me hope that maybe one day we can feel that sense of community that we all once felt.

    Hi from Barcelona. Things are going very different here in Catalunya but there is this thing that is common in all comunity: we all have our personal point of view in every single thing . And I shall say it’s better because then we can learn, understand and maybe progress from each others. Then not every person who appear in our life can’t be a friend. But we are so little that WE HAVE to respect each other for, at least the only reason: we are trans no matter how. Men, women, non binary etc…
    In french we say: unity make you strong.
    Lets be united.
    Because right now many politicians and mean persons will take advantages if we dont keep our unity. Peace

    Well said, Dade. Thanks for speaking on this. You are absolutely right. I loved what you said about how you are able to have discussions and listen to your friend with opposite viewpoints. I think this is such an important life skill. I've noticed that many people won't even listen to those with different perspectives, and maybe worse, will get shamed by others for doing so! How are we supposed to learn and grow and come together if we can't even speak to one another without getting shamed for it?

    Thank you for your wise words on this!
    I first came to your UA-cam channel in 2012, when I was just beginning my transition. Back then I knew nothing and I was craving to see, that life could be good after a transition. You helped me a lot back then and I am still so grateful for that!
    But you are right. I mostly left the trans community once I felt good enough in my own skin and didn't have any more questions. And each time I tried to bond with someone not only from the trans, but also the whole queer community I experience, that sharing this part of your life means next to nothing on behalf of sharing the same values, believes or interests.
    I also feel this disconnection within the community. The disagreements, the violence against both inside and outside the community. I feel, that we have to come together and support each other again. Not in a way to harm others or to piss them off, but in a way to stabilize and secure ourselves. We are vulnerable, at the moment more than ever. Anti-trans legislation is spreading all over the world and this is something that endangers everybody. Even non-trans people. Because it's fuel to more legislation against minorities and people who are different.
    Maybe I'm just a random trans man from Germany, but if you are looking for support: here I am. I'm not a loud activist, or someone to start a rebellion. But I believe in many small acts of kindness and support such as speaking up here for you.
    Thank you again for your words.

    Glad this has been brought up. In my experience on fb I was in a trans gaming group. Of course with most groups including this one politics should not be spoken about to keep it with the topic of the group. One of the admins posted about trump so I reported it to an admin not realizing one of the admins was the person who posted it. They got mad said rude things and kicked me out of the group. I was sad, disappointed and angry about it. I couldn’t believe they make a rule they can break and support it. After that I found it hard to join many trans groups. Some groups weren’t very active or some were promoting their products or others ads for them to make money. It has become hard to find support just for needing help on information or to feel including as trans in groups with the same hobbies. Hoping that some of these groups change because it’s difficult to find small help as resources. I currently live in Vegas and right now finding doctors has become difficult. There are a few but too far away. But it it Vegas so I can’t say that it’s any better for most medical help in Vegas. Even those people who aren’t trans have been scammed and have difficult time here my mom with cancer got scammed even telling her she has no cancer with over 10yrs of medical history, this is stage 4 cancer so it doesn’t just disappear. Sorry rambling .

    Wise words to listen to. We are really divided, all of us. And it's not just about people in different camps disagreeing, but people in the same camp disagreeing and hating on each other. I am very blessed to have people in my life who are opposite in my world view, and we still have each other's backs. Others are not so lucky and I have heard terrible stories of how they are treated for simply having a different opinion. We are at a point where we can't talk and people refuse to listen. People seem to be more focused on being right that we lost focus of what we are fighting for. Much love to you, and I hope that in the near future, it will be the trans community and not the trans... community?

    I agree. This is not a trend only of the Trans community, but humanity at large. In order to create a community says the Old texts books you either center around something we love or hate. The problem is the communities that despise us have meaning to their lives attached to it. They are dangerously uniting through Hate. I believe you should be more active, but its dangerous as well. Maybe start a forum online as a next step. I would call it "we agree to disagree, now let´s get on with surviving challenging times". I am sure its a test of endurance. Gathering creates a lot of energy and belonging.be safe u all!

And one person helped me pay something when I couldn’t due my transition messing with my access to my bank account. That was the support I got. I believe that there is now more understanding and acceptance (albeit it wouldn't feel that way with all the anti-trans legislative bills being introduced) from allies outside the trans community, but getting ANY community to come together for a single purpose is not impossible - but can feel pretty hard to do nowadays.

    Unfortunately, a political view is extremely important in fighting the current battle. It's paramount to vote a certain "way" in order to maintain a democratic way of life free from those ridiculous and sometimes dangerous laws. Anyone involved with or in the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans (currently), has to be more politically aware then ever before. Start on a grassroots level, but definitely start educating yourself on those politicians running for elections. Find out what their beliefs are and what laws, legislation, or policies they've backed. At the end of the day, who you vote for, can be life changing-in a positive or negative way. Take care ❤

    You mentioned anti-trans laws again in this video; I must ask again to which ones are you referring? If you're labeling legislation meant to prevent minors from so much as receiving lupron for the purposes of halting the natural development process as "anti-trans" I'm afraid I must vehemently disagree. If not, then I guess I'll have to eat my words lol
    But if so, we *_absolutely should_* be preventing the use of such "treatments" on minors. Lupron's primary function is to prevent repeat SO's from ever reoffending again. It is a means of *_chemical castration,_* and I kid you not someone in favor of using it on children once tried to tell me that that, its *_intended function and purpose by design,_* was a mere *_side effect,_* and a rare one at that.
    If you don't want transgender adults to be miserable their entire lives due to permanent impotence and zero libido, then don't halt their bodies' natural development cycle as children. To combat legislation meant to safeguard children from such a fate, I would need to be reasonably confident that there was something else in there that didn't need to be, that _would_ be a detriment to the trans community. If such a thing is not present in the legislation in question, then prohibiting doctors from administering leuprolide acetate to minors would not be anti-trans by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it is ostensibly *_pro-trans._*
    I will not budge on this, and while I myself am not trans, there are a great many trans people who see the issue this way and rightly won't budge on it either.

    • @ElectricDade
      @ElectricDade  3 місяці тому

      If you a) aren't trans, and b) won't budge... then why comment here, and why should I respond?. You are trying to choose and speak for people you have no experience with. No thanks. History has enough of that.

      @@ElectricDade Me not being trans should not preclude me from taking part in the discussion; on the contrary, growing up gay and rather gender non-conforming means this current hot button topic is rather relevant to me. Were I growing up now instead of when I did in the late 90's/early 2000's, I likely would be influenced by my peers to think that I _was_ trans when I am very much not.
      I have not claimed to speak for anyone. I have rightly pointed out that whether you like it or not, a great many trans people do in fact maintain, for very good reason, that the transition process should start in adulthood.
      The harms inflicted on children subjected to this are well known and well documented; thinning and brittle bones, teeth shedding enamel and cracking, degenerative spinal disks, painful joints, seizures, etc. Not to mention the *_lifelong infertility and zero sex drive I brought up earlier._* It is not even approved by the FDA for use on children, and in fact they have issued several warnings about doing so; are you going to go after them? Are you going to accuse them of being motivated by bigotry rather than being motivated by adhering to the scientific method and medical ethics?
      These are medical experiments that are being conducted *_on children._* This isn't a mere breach of medical ethics. It takes the very concept of medical ethics, shatters it into little bits, tosses those bits in a shallow, crudely dug hole in the backyard, and takes a massive, diarrheic shit on them. You take issue with me refusing to budge on this being something that *_should not be done._*
      If this is a thing you wish all trans people would agree should happen, and if they don't they are somehow betraying their own "community," then I think you can reasonably expect to continue to be disappointed. Thank fuck.

    • @ElectricDade
      @ElectricDade  3 місяці тому

      @@radicaldreamer927 Everyone is influenced by their peers. It is part of growing up. Kids try things and experiment. No one, however, is transitioning at the drop of a hat - which is how you are making it sound. Kids who go on hormone blockers or start HRT do so after a lot of thought, deliberation, counseling, etc. It's not like dying your hair.
      It's not the governments place to put up a blockade into what are family matters. The statistics of those who transition and then regret it are very low. People, even young people, get to choose who they are and have room to make mistakes.
      I have two kids myself. They are not too far apart in age. The reason I say its a family matter is because I have one child who absolutely knows themself. If they said they were trans, I would take them seriously and start having discussions with them about what that all would mean. My other child is flighty and changes his mind constantly. He does not yet even know who he is as a person. If he said he were trans.... it would be a very different path since he is very much a follower. The path would be a lot longer to make sure he was being true to himself.

    • @radicaldreamer927
      @radicaldreamer927 3 місяці тому

      @@ElectricDade "It's not the government's place to put up a blockade into what are family matters."
      "Family matters" is rather vague, which is the exact opposite of what you want when you're dealing with law. I mean, that exact logic can be and in fact has been used to argue in favor of such practices as genital mutilation. Any abuse happening in a home can undoubtedly be described as "family matters," but I think any sane person can agree that besides community-wide vigilantism, the government is the victims' sole avenue for recourse. When it comes to "best interest of the child," the government does in fact have some veto power, for better or worse.
      "The statistics of those who transition and then regret it are very low."
      So? No, really. So? There are currently roughly 54,000 members of the detrans subreddit. The mere existence of such people is indicative of a medical malpractice issue that is widespread enough to affect *_tens of thousands at the very least._* Two things can be (AND ARE) true at once: 1) The process of medical transition is, for many affected with gender dysphoria, the proper treatment to allow them to function day-to-day with full peace of mind, and 2) doctors should be doing their due diligence to ensure that they have both ruled out any and all comorbidities AND ruled out such treatments as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy as viable options before even starting such a process. *_It's quite plain that this isn't being done in far too many cases._*
      But that's actually a wholly separate issue from putting children on puberty blockers. Yes, I do believe doing so is inappropriate because it's very premature and the child is more likely to grow up having regretted it. But if you'll recall, I also do not see any benefits whatsoever even if the child DOES grow up completely confident that transition was the right choice. Reread the thread:
      "The harms inflicted on children subjected to this are well known and well documented; thinning and brittle bones, teeth shedding enamel and cracking, degenerative spinal disks, painful joints, seizures, etc. *_Not to mention the lifelong infertility and zero sex drive I brought up earlier."_*
      Do these lifelong complications magically go away only for those for whom transition ultimately would have been the right choice? Is it really only the detransitioners who suffer from those complications? I repeat: *_if you don't want transgender adults to be miserable their entire lives, DO NOT put them on puberty blockers as children. Prohibiting the use of such treatments on children will ensure a much higher quality of life down the road, and therefore such legislation can only be described as PRO-TRANS._*
      "People, even young people, get to choose who they are and have room to make mistakes."
      And if those mistakes result in lifelong complications that significantly reduce quality of life? Listen, the Streisand Effect is absolutely real; a puritan, authoritarian approach to alcohol will only ensure that if the child does rebel, they will go into it hardcore and possibly develop debilitating alcoholism, but at the same time, going to the liquor store and buying it for them yourself as a parent probably isn't the best choice either. If they want to dress as the opposite sex, that's one thing. Leuprolide acetate is... another thing entirely.

      Lupeon is used for other medical purposes such as certain forms of cancer. You don’t seem to understand the usage of lupeon on prisoners is different for patients who are prescribed the drug for medical or life saving purposes, so to refer to it as “chemical castration” is misleading.

      In my country you can't transition medically or legally without a diagnosis and you can't get a diagnosis without being on a waitlist for 2,5 years and completing at least six appointments with a psychologist plus a full psych evaluation with a different psychologist. Strangely enough, people identify with their gender before they get to finally talk with two psychologists randomly assigned to them. What you're doing is gatekeeping.

      @@kaikr7440 Honestly? Good. That kind of gatekeeping is _necessary_ for something as permanent as body modification. We wouldn't be having so many detransitioners if the medical practitioners administering their "care" had done their due diligence to eliminate any and all potential comorbidities as possible factors for what they were experiencing. For those people who did detransition and are detransitioning, they were victims of medical malpractice, and they would most likely have been better served going through mindfulness-based cognitive therapy... a solution that likely would have been identified had they gone through the process you are deriding instead of being fast-tracked to a treatment that was ostensibly the wrong one for their particular needs. Do some people need medical transition? Obviously. But what you're describing is best practices for the road to get there.
