She's an excellent multitasker. I think bass + vocals is one of the trickiest combinations to play, since each serves such an independent function in the song. And she doesn't even skimp at all on the bassline - it's pretty elaborate playing while she's singing.
Tal is Tal and that is a mountain of talent and soul. I remember meeting her when she was a kid freshly arrived to the American shores. She walked into Danny's Chelsea Guitars on the first floor of the world famous Chelsea Hotel . A small girl with small hands, beautiful head of curly hair and an endless amount of chops. I was there with Danny and G.E. Smith. We all looked and listened in amazement at the musical ability of this beautiful young girl when she picked a bass and gave it a ride. i havent seen her in a while. Work takes us both in different directions. I hope she is well..... Mango
Oh, my.... she goes from 10 to an 11 now. What a rare example of technical prowess, vocal strength and physical beauty. Plus watcher her grow and mature as an artist is a blessing!
I'd like Tal if she were a two-headed Pygmy. I played in a band for 4 years that worked 5 nights a week and we had a 300 lb. Jewish lesbian as the front person and she sang her ass off. It was like playing with Big Mamma Thornton. So as for looks, our singer probably didn't attract any guys, but after she sang one tune, everyone was hooked and forgot about her looks.
Of course! That's why they call, looks,, just that,,,, "looks"! It stinx!!! Tal isn't at all special as bass players go,,,, but as you said, "how many bass players are as cute as she is!?!? Sad truth about life!!!
Amen! It's something about the rhythm that goes along with playing bass, I guess. I find it's far easier to play guitar and sing. Can't speak to playing drums and singing, although it's probably similar rhythmically to playing bass and singing.
Good one.. Usually when someone is singing and playing an instrument at the same time, That means they are playing almost the exact same thing on that axe every time after hours of practice,, and when they stop singing ,,they then start improvising a solo.. Most keyboard bassists play the same left hand thing during a solo.. Art Tatum dreamed of baseball scores while he soloed ....LOL.. Many singers play a rhythm instrument just so they don't have to have any stage presence ?
The mood of the intro is mesmerizing, and sets the scenery for the whole tune. I love this song. Dreamy, with roots and some contemporary elements. Great song.
It looked like Tal's mic boom/stand was moving around during those close-ups early in the song (as if someone was holding it for her). But, once the camera went to a wider shot, the illusion went away. I thought I was seeing things... and I was. I saw her on this tour at the Brighton Music Hall in Boston recently... And, she is incredible to see and hear live! I got to stand right in front and was in awe of her stage presence and talent for the almost 2 hours she was on!
Totally awesome. I only know Tal via Jeff and her history. I didn't even know she had such a beautiful powerful singing voice. I play 7 fretted & fretless, I was inspired by Jack Bruce mid 60's Gibson EB3 playing. I'm back playing a 4 string electroaccoustic bass now. Tal...all bass players worldwide respect & bow down to you - you are ultimate - thank you
+Tulsatom Bob Looks like it's fretless and she's using flatwounds, but it sounds remarkably like an upright - it's no wonder Jeff Beck described her as a "genius"!
She's a genius because she's playing a fretless, acoustic with flatwound strings? Sorry, she doesn't have large enough hands to be a bass "genius." A great bass plays HAS to have large hands to reach the notes efficiently; hence Stanley Clarke, Ron Carter, Mingus, etc. Others include John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Jaco Pastorius. Jeff Beck is just shamelessly trying to promote his bandmate. Tal Wikenfeld is merely capable. She will never be known for anything in her own right. Stop being politically correct. You just look silly.
+ Shoot First In the first place, Tal played with Jeff between 2007 and 2010 - she is NOT a current bandmate. Secondly, his comment had nothing whatsoever to do with her playing an acoustic fretless - mine related to, but was in no way limited to, her ability to effortlessly switch between a fretted long-scale Sadowsky and a short-scale Harmony fretless, which is by no means easy.Thirdly, your claim that you can't be a bass guitar genius unless you have large hands is ridiculous - many musicians, including fellow bassists like Victor Wooten and Oteil Burbridge consider Tal to be an exceptional talent, and I'll take their opinions over those of an unknown keyboard warrior, who, for all I know, hasn't a musical bone in his body, any day of the week! FYI, here are some of the top musicians Tal's played with: Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jackson Browne, Steve Lukather, Vinnie Colaiuta, Lee Ritenour, Wayne Krantz, Ryan Adams "Merely capable"? - now who's looking silly?
I have a eb-0 epiphone .. very easy to play. Low cost Beginner Bass.. Sir Paul Uses a Shorter scale bass as well.. TaL does Not have Big Hands .. would think this is a Nice Change for her to in a Music Set aswell!!!
A nice treat at the local Boulder Theater. .. Ms. Wilkenfeld's playing with Jeff Beck & Company is a hell of a kick start ..... A talented soul for certain.
I didn't think I could be more impressed with this young woman than I already was, but wow. A fascinating, strong, very unique voice, calm but confident stage presence and loads of it. This woman has legs, an old term meaning she'll be around twenty years from now. A phenomenal musician, but then we Jeff fans knew that a log time ago.
Wow! First time I hear her singing! Sounds great. Woman, you were born for this, that is your task to fulfill in your present life. People, help her. God is with you.
Amazing playing and writing of music. Ige seen her play before and blew me away but her voice and this song and total feel n mood i just love and can feel deep within. See iam a singer song writer myself. Very unorthodox at it too. So i see her as a amazing gift to this world world.
Great vid. I saw some stuff with Tal and Jeff that was cool. Love that she sings now.. Nice Harmony. I had the guitar version, Rocket II, red SB when i was a kid.
Very soulful! Didn't know that her formidable talents included singing; already knew her to be a killer bass player. This is like reaching for a Stratocaster and finding that a Les Paul also just sort of showed up next to it in the music room!
She's so pretty when she doesn't hear herself and she's frowning to the mixer man but when she smiles and give a look to the one that make a second voice her eyes are shining like a gem ... it's possible not to fall in love? Tal is a goddess.
The only reason it surprises you is that not only can she not sing, but she is a mere mediocre bass player that people only know about because Jeff Beck employs her to play his very undemanding music.
If she is Mediocre ..that's what I want to be like.. She's a world class Bass Player .. Per people Like Jeff Beck.. he would Know.. he likens her to Jaco!!! Thanks to TaL .. restarted his career in 07 .. everyone was talking about Jeff beck New Fantastic Bass Player.. TaL is one of the best things that have ever happened to J B .. I my opinion.. I don't think you like TaL bottom line.. Many Many People DO... If you talked to her at One of her meet and greets she may Change you life...
TaL is so Unbelievably Talented.. She's on my list of top ten Best Bass Players Playing today.. Mr. shoot has to Look at More than One song... I can't believe the comment about Becks Music undemanding Music.... I think if you see her concerts she may Open anyone's eye's and ears...
+Shoot First Once again, you're demonstrating your ignorance, not only about the complexity of Jeff Beck's music but also the fact that Tal hasn't played with him since 2013. Oh, and if you think she can't sing, you're deaf as well as stupid. Please go away and take your pathetic trolling elsewhere.
What amazes me is that wonderful stuff like this is never on TV but simon fucking cowell is ?
The world is mostly rotten.
Nail on the head....
She's an excellent multitasker. I think bass + vocals is one of the trickiest combinations to play, since each serves such an independent function in the song. And she doesn't even skimp at all on the bassline - it's pretty elaborate playing while she's singing.

Who the hell would give this a thumbs down?!?! She’s phenomenal!
I had no idea she's such a gifted singer too. Wow

She's got a strong voice, didn't expect that for she looks so fragile. Nice song ... cool song, ... great song
Same!! I was like, "Whoa!!!" Rad.
Edith Piaf and Judy Garland were both quite small, slight and fragile, yet had very strong voices.
...and Pat Benatar, Eartha Kit and the woman from TSO - April Berry and I'm sure there are many more.
Vierotchka yes
dockaiser just out of curiosity, are you surrounded by Obese people? In which way you think she's Fragile?
Tal she's a gift from GOD.She never stop to amaze me and all my friends fellow musicians. THANK YOU.
Just when I thought She could not get any more awesome...She goes and does this. Amazing. Such an Impressive talent. Definitely a fan.
She is one of the best bass players in the world! Very good singer too! What a talent!
Oh, my.... she goes from 10 to an 11 now. What a rare example of technical prowess, vocal strength and physical beauty. Plus watcher her grow and mature as an artist is a blessing!
Tal is a rare talent who's also 'eye candy'......The camera just loves her!!!
She's a muscian's musician!
J
I wouldn't know. I close my eyes every time I hear this song.

I'm just so happy there's someone new. Love the master's of music of the old , always enjoy the new! Breath of fresh !!
lots of beauty on stage!
For me singing while playing bass is the hardest of hard things to do! Great job!
LOL! Try drumming & singing!
Jack Bruce, Phil Lynott, Sting, Paul McCartney etc etc.........................
Amen! It's something about the rhythm that goes along with playing bass, I guess. I find it's far easier to play guitar and sing. Can't speak to playing drums and singing, although it's probably similar rhythmically to playing bass and singing.

Very true. Thinks Jack Bruce, Phil Lynott they made it look easy.
Everything about this little video was magnificent , beautifully talented with perfect lyrics..
A haunting song. Gives me chills.
Good song, great player. Thumbs up!
The mood of the intro is mesmerizing, and sets the scenery for the whole tune. I love this song. Dreamy, with roots and some contemporary elements. Great song.
A Harmony Bass! That is way cool! Tal sounds great as does her band.
A Harmony fretless bass, that sounds way cool.
That's not a fretless, but it does sound great!
should be a rickenbacker!!!
What a pleasant surprise that she has a strong voice to go along with her bass playing skills. Quite the musical talent.
i'm really starting to like this ...she's the bomb ..love her ..only one thing describes her out standing
I love the sound of handmade music by virtuosos , Any time of the day, when I'm not hungover.

Harmony basses were considered a cheap bass years ago, but the acoustic bass sound is extrordinary.
Tal is a rare talent!!!

BTW, Stu Hamm's first signature bass had a medium, 32" scale length because he has small hands!
