    Jonathan you're too funny! The opening scene of you looking at your watch as she held her breath for 18 minutes and going to grab a meal, reading the paper, and laying in the sun as you checked your watch again was hilarious. I loved it. Thanks for your humor! 🤣👍

    Nice video - Thanks for posting! One statement that should be noted is that Karol's breath hold record of over 18 minutes (mentioned at the 1:45 mark in the video) is after breathing PURE oxygen. The world records for static apnea breathing NORMAL air are far less - I believe the current Male world record is 11:35 by Stephane Misfud of France and the current Female record is 8:23 by the late and great Natalia Molchanova of Russia who sadly died this year in a freediving accident. You did great for your first time! - My first class was also in Bonaire, but with a different instructor - It was only a half a day, but afterwards I was hooked. Your experience was enjoyable to watch and brought back some good memories, so thanks again!

    we came from the sea, we develop in the liquid of the womb, but we have no more gills or the ability to breathe like dolphins or whales. Free diving keeps alive the dream that one day we may recover one of these natural skills. A touch of magic, it is so poetic to see free divers playing deep in the oceans, so graceful and at ease. Personally I get too cold in the water, too scared and am too weak to swim for more than fifteen minutes so I am in awe of these amazing athletes.

    Karol meyer is a wonderful person. I can tell, too! Static apnea is good way to learn how to adjust to water inclinations. I used to do that in hawaii.
    There alot small things to know aboit breath holding and other motions that can help extend time underwater. Also create better breathing apparatuses. Thank you karol for your generous way of helping people adjust as dis-mammal pre-pro amphibian natures.
    Thank you jonathan bird and karol meyers for making such a workable video for others to prepare and convert potentially.💌

    This and scuba diving is a dream, but all I can do is snorkel as I have inner ear problems with water pressure below 5 meters down. Sad, so sad. Maybe I can eventually adjust. Until then, I enjoy videos like this! Another world down there!

    • @Bananachick
      @Bananachick 9 років тому +2

      Its natural to be having problems with your ears under 20 feet of water pressure, so unless you have seen the doctor about it, your probably fine.

    • @billduckworth6760
      @billduckworth6760 8 років тому

    • @naveenthomasj
      @naveenthomasj 6 років тому

      Same problem with me. But I'm wondering how they equalize their ears while also holding their breath in freediving. With scuba at least get the air that you also use to equalize as you descend

    Hi Jonathan! This helpful video inspired me to try it out for myself! I wanted to see how long I could hold my breath! Normally when I tried to hold my breath in the past, I would wear goggles! I had no idea about the water on your face thing! It actually worked! The first time I tried it I was only able to get 50 seconds of comfortable breathing! So I practiced over and over again! Every time I retried it my time went up a couple seconds! And each time I retried I took about two minutes of deep belly breathing first! Around the 5th try, I got one minute and 10 seconds! that's the longest I've ever been able to hold my breath! It's still nowhere near three minutes though! How do you do it? Maybe it's because you're a lot older than me! I'm only 15 so my lungs are probably more underdeveloped! I bet that if I practice doing this every time I go swimming, in a couple years I'll be able to hold my breath for 3 minutes! That would be a cool party trick!

    • @BlueWorldTV
